ADAMAWA INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS JUDGES

Adamawa State Judicial Service Commission has called for applications from members of the legal profession who are interested in being appointed as high court judges. The State Judicial Service Commission made the call in a September 28, 2021, circular with reference number ADS/JSC/S.25/Vol 1, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM. The circular was signed by the Secretary Judicial Service Commission in the state, Hindatu W. Lamorde. It announced thus," vacancies exist for the appointment of 4 judges for high court of justice, 1 customary court of appeal judge and 2 kadis for the sharia court of appeal in the state". It said that interested candidates should apply on or before 12th October, 2021, with a copy of their recent curriculum vitae(CV).

NIGERIA @61: GOVERNOR FINTIRI PARDONS 15 INMATES

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state on Thursday,  pardoned Fifteen (15) inmates serving prison terms in various Correctional Institutions across the State in commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary. Governor Fintiri, in a statement signed by Solomon Kumasngar, the Director General Media and Communications, said that the release is to take effect after all legal formalities have been concluded with the Correctional Institutions. NIGERIA @61: CP ORDERS TIGHT SECURITY, SALUTES FINTIRI, CITIZENS

As Adamawa citizens join rest of Nigerians in marking the 61st Independence Anniversary, the Commissioner Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has ordered tight security arrangements and proactive high visibility patrols in the state. The order which is to ensure a peaceful celebration was issued to all the Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP), Operation Department, Area Commanders(ACs) Divisional Police Officers(DPOs), and Operational Commanders(OCs). The CP had while directing the DCP to coordinate as well as ensure peaceful Independence Anniversary, ordered for the deployment of intelligence and other operational assets particularly at the venue where celebration will take place. APPEAL COURT OKAYS 14 DAYS FOR FINTIRI TO FILE APPEAL AGAINST 659 TEACHERS

The Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa state has given 14 days to the state government to file notice of appeal against the judgement of the National Industrial Court, Yola. Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa, the presiding judge of the court on Tuesday, allocated 14 days to the government to file notice of appeal against the verdict of the Industrial court which ordered for the payment of N660 million to the embattled Batch D1 Teachers. The lower court had on the 13th June, 2018, ordered the government to pay 659 teachers sacked by the Post Primary Management Board, after they were said to have worked for a period of 29 months. The teachers known as Batch D1 were part of those recruited in 2012 before the government declared their employment by the Post Primary Schools Management Board illegal. 14 YR OLD BOY WHO FAINTED IN COURT, RE-ARRESTED FOR STEALING N61, 000 PROPERTY

The 14 year old boy, Kamashi Danladi, who recently fainted at the Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, for stealing 2 measures of rice, has again been arrested for another theft of propery worth N61, 000. Some of the items carted away by the boy include; 3 sets of gasoline generators, star times decoder, mp3 player and tool box containing spanners valued at N61, 000. The items which belong to one Solomon Danjuma, a mechanic and resident of Jambutu, in Yola North Local Government Area, were stolen by the boy on the 25th September, 2021. It could be recalled that the boy, who also resides at the Police Station street in Jambutu, was on the 13th September, 2021 arraigned for the offence of theft, where he confessed to stealing 2 measures of rice but blamed his action to hunger. Adamawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday, constituted 5 ad hoc committees with a mandate to assess the performance of the 21 Local Government Councils' Chairmen. The Assembly has given the committees 7 terms of reference with which to determine the performance of the Local Government Councils' Chairmen for the past 22 months of their assumption of office. According to the Assembly, Hon. Simon Isa (Song) is to head the committee that will visit Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk and Shelleng LGAs, while Hon. TENURE EXTENSION: ADHA TO ASSESS THE PERFORMANCE OF LGCs CHAIRMEN

Members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly are considering embarking on a tour to assess the performance of the Executive Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Councils. To this end, the Assembly will on Tuesday, announce the composition of committees with a mandate to embark an on - the- spot assessment of the developmental projects recorded by the LGC Bosses within 22 months. The performance of the LGCs will determine whether or not the Assembly will make amedments on the LG administration law to make provision for the extension of tenure, or recommend for the constitution of transition committees by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. A Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Adamawa state has convicted and sentenced a scavenger, Abubakar Musa to 13 years in prison for receiving stolen cattle. The court has also jailed a 42 year old Mohammed Garba(aka Danjuma Zainu), a driver and resident of Unguwan Sarki, Pantami, and a 23 year old Umar Abubakar, a tractor operator and resident of Barunde, both indigenes of Akko LGA, Gombe state, 2 years with option of N50, 000 fine and 1 year each without option of fine for cattle theft and criminal conspiracy. POLICE ARREST 3 ROBBERS FOR BREAKING INTO 22 HOUSES IN YOLA

Three armed robbers, who specialised in breaking into homes to steal valuables, have been apprehended by the police in Adamawa state. The operatives of the command have also recovered handsets and clothes among others from the suspects. The 3 suspects – Kalifa Mustapha, 20, Tumba Abubakar, 27 and Faisal Abdulla, 21– were nabbed for allegedly committing separate offences by operatives attached to Yola Division and local vigilantes. The command's spokesman, DSP, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, in a statement made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Sunday, said that the suspects were apprehended on the 24th September,2021. A Yola Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Adamawa state on Friday, remanded 7 young men over alleged rioting, causing panic and attempting to set Digil community in Mubi North Local Government Area, ablaze. 17 YR OLD WIFE GETS 10 STROKES OF CANE FOR STEALING RAM IN YOLA

A 17 year old House Wife, Fadimatu Yusuf, on Friday, received 10 strokes of cane for stealing a ram. A Yola Criminal Area Court 2, in Adamawa state gave the order following a guilty plea by the defendant. Fadimatu, of Nasarawo ward, Jimeta Yola, was arraigned on a count of theft which contravened section 276, of Penal Code Law. The accused pleaded guilty to the offence. Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Danjuma Hamidu, told the court that the defendant had committed the offence on the 23rd September, 2021, by 1:00pm. Inspector Hamidu, told the court that the complainant, Agnes Nehemiah of Saminaka opposite EYN Church, Yola South Local Government Area, reported the matter at the Jimeta Police Station on the same date. Erstwhile Manager of Bonghe Micro Finance Bank Numan, in Adamawa state, Mrs. Grace Karka and 7 others were on Friday, arraigned for allegedly defrauding the bank of N124.4million. Other defendants arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 2 along side the embattled ex-Manager include; Kusamakai Felix, Iliya Andrawus, Prince Moses Balatu, John Mark, Fidelis Luka, Dauda Abraham and Silvia Moses.   Mohammed Ahmed Barde, a new Commissioner of police posted to Adamawa Police Command has assumed duty. DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Command's image maker made this known in a statement made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Friday. A 19  year old divorce seeking bride, Rumasau Muhammed, on Wednesday, admitted stabbing her husband, Mohammed Adamu, with a knife to death. The teen bride who was arraigned before Yola Chief Magistrate Court 1 Admin, Adamawa state, pleaded guilty for culpable homicide contrary to section 191 of the state penal code law, 2018. Rumasau, who hails from Wuro Yanka in Shelleng Local Government Area, was recently arrested by the police for allegedly killing her husband following his continued refusal to divorce her.   Yola Criminal Area Court 2 in Adamawa state on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced a 25 year old Bala Hassan, to 2 years imprisonment for insulting Nigeria Police as thieves. Honourable Nuhu Musa Garta, of the Criminal Area Court convicted the young man after he was tried and found guilty of the offence levelled against him..   The convict was earlier dragged before the court by the Commissioner of Police, A. A. Alhaji, for allegedly insulting all police officers attached to Jimeta Division as thieves. ADAMAWA GETS ADDITIONAL FED HIGH COURT JUDGE

  An additional Judge has been posted to Yola Division of the Federal High Court in Adamawa state. He is Honourable Justice S. K. Idrissa, from Yobe state. He has since assumed duty. Justice Idrissa, is expected to serve with Honourable Justice A. M. Anka, who has been the only resident judge since 2017. The new Judge, until his deployment, was the resident judge of Sokoto Division of the Federal High Court, Sokoto State. By this posting, the Federal High Court Yola, now has 2 Judges, who are expected to ensure quick dispensation of justice.

Out of the suspects, 464 suspects were convicted, while 720 are currently awaiting trial for various offences ranging from kidnapping, rape, armed robbery among others. The command also recovered 20 AK 47 riffles, 3 G3 riffles, 2 pump actions, 7 single barrel guns, 11 locally fabricated guns, 115 cartridges, 600 rounds of live ammunition,  8 stolen motor vehicles, 11 motorcycles among others. The CP, A.A.Alhaji, made this known on Monday, while parading suspects apprehended for various offernces at the police headquarters in Yola.

MAN REMANDED FOR STABBING OKADA RIDER TO DEATH DURING WEDDING

The Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola, Adamawa state has remanded a farmer, Labiga Zikini, for allegedly stabbing a commercial motorcycle operator, Hashim Mamman, to death. Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Ulenda, ordered for the remand of the defendant after he pleaded guilty for the offence of culpable homicide. The incident occured during a wedding at Filin Kari Guyuk Local Government Area, Adamawa state. According to the prosecution, Labiga Zikini, 22, of Purakayo in Guyuk Local Government Area, allegedly stabbed the deceased with a broken bottle on his ribs, stomarch and head leading to his untimely death. ADAMAWA SIEC SHIFTS LGC ELECTIONS TO DECEMBER 4TH

By Innocent Daniel Zira Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has shifted the scheduled Local Government Councils elections to the 4th December, 2021. According to the electoral body, the election will no longer hold on the 27th November, 2021, as earlier planned and announced. The commission in a statement by the Information Officer, Innocent Daniel Zira, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM, said that the shift followed a meeting with representatives of political parties presided by the Chairman Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), Mallam Isa Shettima. According to him, some crucial observations were made on the earlier released time table which led to some changes on the election time table in order to suit the activities of political parties in the state. "The new date for the election has been scheduled for 04th December, 2021 instead of 27th November, 2021".

Mob in Dasin Bwatiye community in Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa state on Tuesday, killed 7 people suspected to be witches in the community.  The victims including 4 men and 3 women were said to have earlier confessed to be witches before being killed by the mob. It was gathered that the deceased allegedly penciled down several names of the people in the community to be killed by witchraft, and that when their evil plan became known, the community decided to kill them first before causing havoc. The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident to NEWS PLATFORM on Wednesday.  DSP Nguroje, said that the 7 suspected witches were killed on Tuesday by the mob, saying that nobody is arrested at the moment in connection to the crime as all the inhabitants have deserted the community. ADAMAWA PRISON REJECTS TO ADMIT "SHILA" BOYS..AS COURT KICKS

There is currently a confusion surrounding the custody of four underage suspects linked to "Shila" activities as the Nigeria Correctional Services in Adamawa state rejected to admit them. The authorities of the Correctional Service insisted that the suspected "Shila" boys are between 13 to 15 and not eligible to be remanded in the facility. The affected boys include; Mohammed Abubakar, 15, Danlami 13, Abdulwahab Suleiman, 14 and Saidu Abubakar, 15. Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, had last week ordered for the remand of the accused persons at Yolde Pate correctional facility after they had pleaded guilty for conspiracy, extortion and theft. A 14 year old boy, Kamishe Danladi, who confessed to stealing 2 measures of rice on Monday, vomitted and subsequently collapsed at the Chief Magistrate Court 2, in Yola, Adamawa state. The 14 year old boy who hails from Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area in the state, was arraigned before Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, for the offence of theft. The boy was brought to court for allegedly stealing rice and other items valued N300, 000, and that he is being accused of breaking into peoples' houses. But while in court, the boy admitted that he only stole 2 measures of rice, saying that he carted away the rice because its owner gave him job in his farm, but refused to pay him his money even after finishing the job. The Speaker Adamawa state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, has clarified that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's led administration borrowed the sum of N17billion only in 2 years. Rt. Hon. A Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Friday, remanded two men who specialise in printing fake National Certificate of Education(NCE) of the College of Education (COE) Hong, for students. The suspects, Amos Daniel, 39 and Jamilu Dahiru, 32, who reside in Hong town, Hong Local Government Area, have been remanded in prison custody after they pleaded guilty to the alleged crime. Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, ordered the remand of the accused persons who were earlier arraigned before him on the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy and making of false documents contrary to sections 60 and 349 of the state penal code law. A Yola Magistrate Court in Adamawa has convicted and sentenced an 18 year old, Umar Isa, of Jambutu ward to 6 years imprisonment without option of fine. The presiding judge, Japhet Ibrahim Basani, convicted the youngman after he was tried and found guilty of criminal conspiracy and theft contrary to sections 60 and 276 of the state penal code law, 2018. Umar Isa, was dragged before the court for snatching a phone from a lady known Grace Lazarus, of the Jambutu ward on the 5th September, 2021 at about 12:00 pm.
