Adamawa CAN Expresses Sadness, Seeks End to Bachama/Chobo Clashes

Adamawa CAN The Adamawa State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is deeply saddened by the recent resurgence of communal clash between the Bachama and Chobo in Lamurde LGA

The recent clash resulted in the loss of lives and property including burning down of households, food items among other valuables.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the association Adamawa State, Rev. Dr. Joel Danjuma Manzo, and made available to newsmen in Yola.

The leadership of the Christian body recalled the time taking to make peace between the two warring communities through the Adamawa State Government, Christian bodies and other well-meaning organizations but, alas the recent needles attacks has set another bad record between the two parties who once lived happily and even intermarry.

Even as the Government imposed a 24 hour curfew, the leadership of CAN is therefore calling on both communities to remain calm and immediately ceasefire to create the necessary space for dialogue and amicable resolution of the uprising.

"CAN is calling on both parties to exercise restraint and allow wisdom to prevail as the authorities work towards lasting peace and mutual understanding. We request that security personnel be maintained on ground for surveillance and continuous protection of lives and properties.

"At this moment of grief CAN is calling on the masses in the state especially, well to do individuals and organizations to mobilize resources and reach out to the affected. The unity and peace efforts of the Government should be taken with all seriousness in order to secure a united, peaceful environment and society for well-meaning citizens of the state especially women and children who suffer most in moments like this", it stated.

The association sympathized with the families of slain innocent men, women and children of the affected communities, and prayed God comfort the affected families and relations.
