2027: Sen. Iya Abbas Guber Bid Gets Boost as Groups Pledge Support

Coalition of AIA Support Groups drawn from the 21 LGAs of Adamawa State has formally endorsed Senator Aminu Iya Abbas for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced during a press conference held at the Teachers’ House Conference Hall in Jimeta-Yola on Saturday, where representatives of the various groups described the lawmaker as the “gold standard for progress” ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Addressing journalists, stakeholders, youth and women leaders, the coalition said their decision followed extensive consultations across the state’s three senatorial districts, noting that Adamawa requires leadership anchored on “intellectual depth, administrative transparency, and a proven record of impactful service.”

The groups, including AIA Movement, AIA Community Mobilisation, AIA Community Engagement, AIA Support Group, AIA Frontiers, AIA Media, AIA Sisters, AIA Door-to-Doors, AIA Yola Youth Group, Unique Sisters Group, and TYPA Youth Group, among others, unanimously declared their support for Abbas to contest the state’s top office.

They also commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for what they described as significant achievements in urban renewal, security, and education, stating that his administration has laid a solid foundation for continued development.

According to the coalition, Senator Abbas is well-positioned to sustain and consolidate the gains of the current administration, ensuring continuity of the “Fresh Air” legacy.

The groups further pledged their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing the need for a governor who can align state policies with federal government programmes for economic growth and national development.

Highlighting Abbas’ credentials, the coalition noted his academic background in accounting, professional experience in both public and private sectors, and legislative track record as key factors behind their endorsement. They described him as a seasoned administrator who has demonstrated financial discipline and governance expertise.

They pointed to his tenure as Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and his current role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Innovation, Science, and Technology as evidence of his capacity to deliver results.

The coalition also cited several achievements credited to the senator, including facilitation of over 100 federal appointments, support for youth enlistment into security agencies, sponsorship of motions on flood control projects, advocacy for electricity billing reforms, and initiatives in healthcare and education.

Other highlighted interventions include scholarships for students, rural infrastructure development, distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers, and support for community security through provision of operational vehicles and motorcycles to vigilante groups.

Describing him as a bridge-builder with both local and national reach, the groups expressed confidence in his ability to lead the state effectively if elected.

They called on the senator to accept the endorsement and contest the 2027 election, assuring him of their readiness to mobilize support across all local government areas.

The press conference ended with a pledge by the coalition to work towards a “more prosperous and secure Adamawa State” under Abbas’ leadership.
