It is indeed true that when you fight alone, you eventually start throwing punches in the air; this is the case with the Distinguish and Unfortunate Social Media Senator representing Adamawa North in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Senator who makes it a point of pettiness to selfishly pick a one-sided loosing battle with His Excellency the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was at his folly again early this week with a Facebook post, as usual, claiming to set the records straight.
It is expediently pertinent to state here that His Excellency being very busy delivering on the mandate given to him by the good people of Adamawa State does not have the time or the appetite to engage in tantrums with people who fail to recognize their position in society. Hence, we took it upon ourselves to address the Social Media Senator since he has chosen to bring himself down to our level. As minions, yes, most certainly self-affirmed minions of His Excellency, let’s set the record setter straight.
Anyone familiar with the politics of Adamawa Northern Senatorial district will understand that the SDP candidate in the Senatorial election of the zone more or less made the Social Media Senator a Senator. After failing to secure the APC senatorial ticket against Binta Masi Garba, he contested on the platform of the SDP campaigning vigorously against the APC, it is said that at a rally he verbally called on the people to either vote for him or the PDP candidate as an option.
In the election, SDP secured a total of 19,627 votes to come third in the polls. 98% of those votes came from Yelwa and Sabonlayi wards of Mubi North, two of the biggest wards in the local government area with a combined total registered voters of 37,262 (Source: 2019 general election INEC voters register) and a 55% voter turnout rate.
Those two wards are the stronghold of the APC in Mubi North, so strong that the Social Media Senator did not bother campaigning in those wards. SDP secured Sabonlayi ward and a sprinkle of votes around the zone especially Mubi South and in the end got a vote that were naturally APC votes which would have returned Binta Masi with a total vote of 82,846 against her 63,219.
However, the Social Media Senator will have the gullible ones believe he is an end-time prophet who divided the red sea of Northern Adamawa politics with a shepherd’s rode.
Now to the records he attempted to set straight with screenshots of abstract pages of digital documents and pictures of heavy machinery at site.
First and foremost, the $200Million long term loan under the Multi Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) managed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) was secured by the Federal Government ON BEHALF of the beneficiary State Governments. which means that the loan is to be eventually paid back by the State Governments. if you take a loan on my behalf from a source I cannot access, how does the projects be executed with the loan become yours?
Based on the MOU on securing the loans, funds will only be released to any state government upon payment of percentage counterpart funding, the reason for the prompt take off of the MCRP projects in Adamawa State was because the peoples Governor paid those counterpart funds promptly for the good of the state.
Why will the World Bank sign an MOU with the Federal Government that stipulates the projects being Federal Government projects but the States will pay the contractors? What happens to Federal Ministry of Works, the NEDC or why not the MRCP offices pay the contractors directly? Perhaps to ensure transparency and inclusiveness. But nothing could be further from the truth.
Prof. Iya Abubakar, Sen. Muhammed Mana, Sen. Bindow Jibrilla Umar, Sen. Masi Garba Binta, once upon a time, Adamawa Northern Senatorial District had senators representing them responsibly.
The despondency being displayed by the Social Media Senator on Facebook is an outlet for his incapacity as a Federal legislator. His abracadabra had caught up with him and he seeks to confuse the good people of Adamawa State with innuendos and mendacious exegesis, but our people have seen through the veil of jiggery-pokery.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had at no time personally or through his officially appointed aides, come out to claim any project in Adamawa State executed from MRCP, because there is no need of doing that, the facts speak for themselves; His Excellency is after a greater and better Adamawa State however that will be legitimately and justifiably achieved. Those who felt they were elected to objugate without cause can go on acting like keel haul masters with nothing to show for it.
His Excellency Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri will not be deterred or distracted.
