4 ADAMAWA VIGILANTES DOCKED FOR DIVERTING STOLEN ITEMS



Newly established Upper Area Court 4 in Adamawa state has remanded 4 local vigilantes over allegations of diverting stolen items recovered from a suspected armed robber.

 

Honourable Musa Ibrahim Ulenda, the pioner judge of the Upper Area Court ordered for the remand of the local vigilantes after they pleaded guilty to the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy and theft.


The judge later adjourned the matter until November 15th, 2021, following an application by the prosecutor, Seargent Kabiru Abubakar, 


The affected local vigilantes are Naziru Usman, 25, Iliyasu Mustapha, 20, Ibrahim Ahmed, 30,  and Yahuza Yakubu, 26.


The alleged offences according to Seargent Kabiru, contravened sections 60 and 276 of the state penal code law.


Usman and 3 other vigilantes were nabbed while handing over a suspected armed robber they had arrested for stealing a plasma Tv, laptop, mp3 player, radio set, 3 wrappers valued N300, 000, in Yola South Local Government Area.


According to First Information Report, the suspected robber and one other now at large, invaded the residence of one Hapsatu Buhari, at Mafias' quarters in Yola South LGA and carted away the items on the 24th October,  2021.


It was on the same date that the vigilantes standing trial arrested the suspect with the items who confessed to them that it was himself and one other who stormed the woman's house and made away with the items.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the vigilantes succeded and recovered all the items from the suspect apart from wrappers, but while taking the suspect to a royal father, the vigilantes diverted all the recovered items except the plasma tv.


But bubble burst when handing over the suspect and the tv set to the royal father, as the suspect raised observation where he told the royal father and his council that the vigilantes had diverted some items.


The suspect revealed that it was not only the tv set that they had carted away, insisting that the local vigilantes had diverted some items and that they must be investigated.


The vigilantes who were said to have been totally disappointed in the suspect could not be able to deny diverting the items.


It was at this juncture that the royal father and his council ordered for the arrest of local security personnel turned suspects; hence, their arraignment in court.

JUST IN: ADAMAWA SIEC SUSPENDS LGCs' ELECTION TILL FURTHER NOTICE




Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has announced the suspension of the scheduled Local Government Councils election till further notice.


It could be recalled that the State Electoral Body had on the 25th August, 2021, issued 90 days notification for the election of the 21 LGCs to be conducted on the 4th December, 2021.


The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Isa Shettima, in a press release made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Friday, said that the polls will no longer be conducted as scheduled due challenges.


Alh. Shettima, disdclosed that the money allocated for the exercise in the 2021, budget is too meagre to organise and conduct the said election.


He announced that the preparations by the commission to conduct the LGCs election are suspended so as to give government time to source for supplementary funds.


According to him, the election arrangements are confronted with multiple challenges thus:" the re-usable electioin materials like ballot boixes, duty vests, bags, kits among others retrieved from field after the last election were vandalised by "End Sars" demostrators".


The Chairman observed that the conversion of voting points into polling units has increased the number of polling units from 2, 609 to 4,104 in the state, explaining that this changes will lead to increase in both facilities and ad hoc staff.


He further stated that the ongoing registration exercise of new voters will have a resultant increase in ballot papers requirment.


He added that this changes will require additional funds to organise and conduct the election; hence, the suspension of the exercise, to enable government source for supplementary funds for the exercise.


Alh. Isa Shettima, added that the objective of organising the election is for the elected officials to take over from the incumbent on the 8th December, 2021, when the present council will be formally dissolved.

2 HOUSE WIVES, 3 OTHERS REMANDED FOR STEALING N1.350M PAMPERS IN YOLA



For allegedly stealing and receiving N1.350 million pampers, a Yola Chief Magistrate Court I Admin, has ordered for the remand of 5 accused persons in prison custody.


Those remanded include; Hapsat Abdulazeez, 29, and Maryam Aliyu, 17, house wives, Emeka Okoye, 46, a Yola based business man, Augustine Fimba, 30, a security guard and Warzartida Linus, 18.


Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, ordered their remand pending ruling on their bail application on the 4th November, 2021.


They were arraigned by the state police command for criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving of stolen property which contravened sections 60, 276, 277 and 308 of penal code law, 2018.


Earlier, when the case was called, all the defendants denied stealing and receiving the property as alleged by the prosecution.


But the prosecutor, Seargent Galeon Nimrod, informed the court that a Yola based business man, Aduku Emeka Emmanuel, of Kofare in Yola north LGA, came to Karewa police station on the 2nd October, 2021 and lodged a complaint of theft in his warehouse.  


He told the court that the nominal complainant had reported that his property(pampers) valued N1.350 million were carted away and strongly suspected Augustine and Warzartida.


According to him, when the accused persons were interrogated at the police station, they all confessed to the commission of the alleged crime.

 

But while entering his plea, Augustine confessed that there were very serious incidences of theft in the warehouse more especially of the property in question, but denied participating in the crime.


NEWS PLATFORM was told in court that the women were connected to crime as receivers of the stolen property who whenever they received it from Augustine and Warzartida, they used to sell it to Emeka Okoye.


The case has been adjourned to 4th November, 2021, for ruling on the bail application filed by counsel to all the defendants, M. A. Garison.

COURT JAILS 2 FOR STEALING A/C AT SPECIALIST COVID-19 CENTER..SOLD IT N5000



Criminal Area Court I in Yola, Adamawa state has convicted and sentenced 2 young men to 1 year in prison each after they were found guilty for criminal conspiracy, theft and public nuisance..


The court has sentenced the 18 year old Nurudeen Abdulkareem and 19 year old Aliyu Sani of Nasarawo ward, Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa state to 1 year prison each with an option of N50, 000 fine for each.


Hon. Gangs, further ordered the convicts to pay the stolen air conditioner to the government.


The Judge has convicted the defendants on the offences of criminal conspiracy, theft and public nuisance contrary to sections 60, 276 and 157 of the state penal code, 2018.


Earlier, when arraigned before the court by the commissioner of police in the state for trial, both convicts admitted committing the crime as alleged by the Police Boss in the state.


The convicts were said to have armed themselves with working tools on the 5th July, 2021, and made their way into the former Psychiatric unit of the Specialist hospital Yola which was converted to Covid-19 Centre in the wake of the pandemic.


During the operation, the youngmen carted away with a new Air Conditioner which they later sold it to one of their elder brothers now at large at the sum of N5000, only.


Few days later, the convicts went to a spot where they usually meet with friends and spend their time, but a team of vigilantes had while on a routine patrol, saw the convicts in a suspicious manner and apprehended them. 


The team took them to Doubeli police station where they confessed during investigation that they were the criminals who invaded the covid-19 center and stole air conditioner.


 Likewise, the convicts had during arraignment before the court, they pleaded guilty. Thereafter, the prosecutor, Corpral Ismail Mohammed, applied for summary trial of the defendants.


Ruling on the matter on Tuesday, Honourable Umar Gangs, convicted and sentenced them as aforestated.

ADHA ADOPTS 5 RESOLUTIONS TO END DESTRUCTION OF FARMS BY BIRDS IN GUYUK LGA



Legislators at the Adamawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday, passed 5 point resolutions in order to end destruction of farmlands by queler birds in Guyuk Local Government Area.


So far, about 120 rice and guine corn farms were destroyed by thousands of migrating queler birds in 7 districts in the LGA which may likely cause  food insufficiency in the affected communities.


According to the Honourable House, the resolutions adopted is to end further destruction of farmlands and see how possible to come to the aid of the affected farmers as earlier suggested by the member representing Guyuk constituency, Hon. Adwawa Donglock.


Part of the resolutions adopted by the lawmakers include; calling on the State Ministry of Agriculture to immediately swing into action to check further destruction on the farmlands by the birds.


The lawmakers have also called on the member representing Guyuk and Shelleng constituency at the House of Representatives to take it up with Federal Ministry of Agriculture so as to carry out aeriel spray of chemicals on farmlands to stop further damages.


More so, they called on the state government to assist the affected farmers as well as provide chemicals to be used on the farmlands with a view to ending the havoc on the farmlands and Ministry of Health to monitor and ensure that the chemicals do not cause health challenges.


Likewise, the legislators have unanimously advised the state government through the State Emergency Management Agency to supply food items and keep in stores so as to assist people whenever the need arises.


The resolution equally directed the Standing Committees on Legislative Compliance and Agriculture to liaise with the state Ministry of Agriculture, SEMA, Savannah Sugar Company other relevant federal agencies to proffer solution as well as ensure compliance and implementation of the resolutions.


This action followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by the representing Guyuk constituency and the Deputy Chief Whip,  Hon. Adwawa Donglock, at the resumed plenary on Tuesday.


Earlier, Hon. Donglock, informed the assembly that thousands of migrating queler birds have destroyed crops especially rice and guinea corn farms of his teeming electorate in several communities, and expressed fears that the invasion may lead to food insecurity.


The legislator noted with concern how the invasion/attack by the birds is causing sleepless night in the affected communities, saying that his good people have incurred huge losses as a result of what he described as a disaster in his constituency.


Hon. Adwawa Donglock, suggested about 4 different prayers to be considered and same were adopted with amendments as measures  to end the invasion, urging the assembly to act quickly in order to address the plight of his electorate.


Several lawmakers including Hon. Hammantukur Yetisuri(Jada Mbulo), Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak(Verre), Hon.Pwamwakeno Mackondo(Numan), Hon. Simon Isa(Song), Hon. Japhet Kefas(Gombi) and Hon. Abubakar Isa(Shelleng) sympathised with the affected farmers and made positive contributions during debate on the motion.


The members commended the sponsor of the motion and said that is what it takes for someone to be a representative and urged the authorities concern to implement all the resolutions adopted.


After contributions, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, who presided over the sitting, directed the clerk communicate all the resolutions to the authorities concern for necessary action.

ADAMAWA ES, 4 OTHERS GET BAIL AFTER 7 DAYS IN PRISON



Yola Criminal Area Court II in Adamawa state has admitted the Education Secretary of Mubi South Local Government Area, Jibrilla Babale, and 4 others to bail after spending 7 days in prison custody.


Jibrilla, and 4 others were remanded in prison for allegedly diverting 800 bags of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) donated for onward distribution to public schools in Mubi South and Mubi North LGAs.


Those remanded in prison along side the Education Secretary on Monday last week include; the UNICEF Co-ordinator of Distribution for Mubi South and North LGAs, Mustaspha Mohammed as well as Musa Mahmud, Aliyu Mohammed and Mohammed Yahaya, for diverting and selling 800 bags of UNICEF at the sum of N420, 000.


The defendants were remanded by the court presided by Hon. Nuhu Musa Garta, after they pleaded not guilty, and thereafter adjourned the case to 1st November, 2021, for commencement of hearing.


He further declared that the bail application filed by counsel to all the defendants, T. U. Danjuma, will be considered before the fixed date for hearing.


But during the court's sitting yesterday, counsel to the defendants, who was represented by M. O. Otokphe, pleaded with the court to admit his clients to bail.


He informed the court that the offence is bailable in nature and that his clients have lined up credible/responsible sureties to stand for them, assuring that they will neither jump bail nor interfere into the ongoing investigation.


On her part, the prosecutor, Inspector Boyom Alex, did not object to the application for bail; instead, she that the bail is at the discretion of court.


Ruling on the bail application, Honourable Nuhu Musa Garta, said that the court had considered the application filed by the counsel to the defendants, and subsequently granted same based on the response of the prosecution who assured the court that investigation is in progress.


Nuhu Garta, held that the degree of participation or involvement in the crime differs and granted them bail based on the level of their participation.


According to him, the ES is to be released on bail by providing 2 credible or responsible sureties who must be a serving Chairman and a Director from his LGC and deposit the sum of N300, 000.


He also granted bail to the UNICEF Distribution Co-ordinator, Mustaspha Mohammed, on condition that he must produce 2 sureties who must be high ranking officers of UNICEF and deposit the sum of N300, 000.


Equally, he granted bail to the remaining 3 defendants on condition that everyone of them must provide 1 surety each and deposit the sum of N, 50, 000 each.


Meanwhile, the case is adjourned to the 1st November, 2021,  for commencement of hearing as earlier adjourned.











ADHA MOVES TO PASS BILL TO IMPROVE WELFARE OF MEDIA WORKERS



Concerned by the plight of the media workers in Adamawa state, the Legislators of the state House of Assembly have commenced proceedings towards enacting a bill aimed at improving the working of media workers.


Already, a bill to that effect sponsored by the member representing Gombi constituency, Hon. Japhet Kefas, has been placed on notice indicating the readiness of the legislators towards passing the bill.


The bill is entitled, "a bill for a law to increase the retirement years and other allowences for media workers of the state so as to enhance their condition of the service and to provide for matters incidental thereto".


The new bill which is co-sponsored by Hon. Alhassan Hammanjoda (Ganye), Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa), Hon. Abdullahi Ahmadu (Leko Koma) and Hon. Isa Yahaya (Maiha), is expected to be read for first time at the next legislative day.


If enacted and assented to by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the law will not only improve the working condition of the media workers but promote productivity, effectiveness and efficiency in the media industry in Adamawa state.

ADHA GRANTS FINANCIAL AUTONOMY TO JUDICIARY STAFF



The dream/agitation of hundreds of Adamawa Judiciary Staff for financial independence became a reality on Monday, when the 7th Assembly passed a bill for a law to provide for the management of funds.


The passage of the bill by the Honourable members of the halllowed chamber has been the agitation of the teeming staff of the judiciary for a period of time.

The state JUSUN's bill tagged," a bill for a law to provide for the Management of Funds Accruing to the State Judiciary from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State to ensure accountability, transparency, effective and efficient utilisation of the funds" was earlier submitted to the assembly by Comrade Aminu Abdulkadir, JUSUN's Legal Adviser.


After the submission of the bill, the Legal Adviser, pleaded with the lawmakers to graciously consider and okay the legislation, explaining that the passage of the bill would make judiciary to perfom its functions effectively.


Comrade Aminu, added that granting financial independence to the judiciary will ensure smooth running of judicial system in the state, and prayed the lawmakers to consider the merits of the bill and pass it in the interest of Adamawa.


Immediately after the submission of the bill by Comrade Aminu, the speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, took it upon himself and sponsored the bill which was co-sponsored by the remaining 24 legislators 


Before its passage on Monday, the bill due the kind of overwhelming support it received, succesfully passed through some stages before becoming a reality yesterday, when Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak(Verre) moved a motion for the suspension of House Standing Order 71 where it was suspended and granted accelerated passage.


Hon. Yapak's motion followed the presentation of a report by the committee on judiciary headed by Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo(Numan) after which it was unanimously deliberated upon and subsequently adopted. 


Thereafter, the speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, directed the clerk to prepare a clean copy of the bill and send it to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his assent.


Governor Fintiri's assent to the new bill will make it become operastional; hence, the plea by the staff on the Governor to assent on it whenever the clean copy is transmitted to him.


Cross section of the JUSUN 's staff appreciated the assembly for its commitment towards passing the bill, and commended the Legal Adviser, Comrade Aminu Abdulkadir, for working round the clock to see that the bill is passed.

MAN, 27 IN PRISON FOR DEFILING 12 YR OLD BOY IN ADAMAWA



Yola Chief Magistrate Court I Admin in Adamawa state on Monday, remanded a 27 year old man, Adamu Abubakar, in prison for allegedly defiling a 12 year old boy(names withheld).


Adamu, was alleged to have forcefully defiled the boy through the anus on the 15th October, 2021, contrary to section 263 of the state penal code law, 2018.


When the suspect was arraigned before the court, he denied committing the "unnatural offence" as alleged by the commissioner of police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde.


Earlier, the CP averred in First Information Report(FIR) tendered by Inspector Zakka Musa, that the accused person lured the boy into an uncompleted building at gate 4 of Jimeta Ultra Modern Market and forcefully had sexual intercourse with him through the anus.


According to the prosecution, it was one Rabi Mohammed of Wuro Chekke, Yola South LGA, who reported the matter on the day of the incident that the accused person committed the offence.


The woman had informed the police that Adamu, of the Jimeta ultra modern market took the boy into the building where he threatened to deal with him failure to comply.


Ruling, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mogammed Digil, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to the 22nd November, 2021.


He further ordered the prosecution represented by Inspector Zakka Musa, to duplicate case file and send to DPP for legal advice.


ADHA APPROVES N18.746 BILLION FACILITY FOR FINTIRI



Adamawa State House of Assembly on Monday, granted approval on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's request to access the whooping N18.746 Federal Government intervention facility.


Governor Fintiri, in a letter dated 22nd October, 2021, and sent to the assembly, requested it to grant the approval to enable him access the facility to help cushion the effect of the repayment of the existing FG intervention facilities.


Governor Fintiri, informed the members that President Muhammadu Buhari, had graciously approved a bridging finance facility for all the states Adamawa inclusive; hence, his administration's request to that effect.


He added that his request followed the approval granted by the state executive council at its 9th (2021) meeting held on Friday last week where the council accordingly approved the accessing of the facility.


After reading/presentation of the letter by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, on Monday, the legislators unanimously considered it and subsequently approved it as requested.


The resolution was sequel to a motion to that effect by the Majority, Hon. Hammantukur Yetisuri(Jada Mbulo) and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Muhammed Mutawali(Girei).


Thereafter, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, directed the clerk to communicate the resolution of the members to the executive arm for necessary action.

ADAMAWA POLICE DISPLAY 5 M/CYCLES, 14 CATTLE, OTHERS FOR CLAIM



Adamawa state police command on Saturday displayed properties recovered in the course of investigation and appealed to real owners to come and lay claim.


Properties recovered by the police includ; 5 motorcycles, 14 cattle, 21 sheeps, among others.


The command in a statement by the PPRO, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available NEWS PLATFORM, said that the properties recovered by the command's police operatives attached to Ganye Divisional police headquarters during investigations sometimes in 2020 and February, 2021 are still unclaimed.


DSP Nguroje, said that the commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, is appealing to the general public whose motorcycles, cattle or sheeps were stolen or missing to report to police Divisional headquarters Ganye with original proof of ownership, reliable and trustworthy person(s) as guarantors to identify and lay claim accordingly.


The police Boss further assured the public of the command's commitment to safeguarding live and property.

MAN BEATS MOTHER, FATHER FOR GIVING HIM ADVICE IN ADAMAWA



A middle age man, Markson Dauda, has appeared before Criminal Area Court II in Yola, Adamawa state for allegedly beating his mother and father for giving him piece of advice.


Markson who is currently cooling his heels in prison custody in Yola, was alleged to have ruthlessly assaulted his parents for advising him to quit smoking.


The young man was dragged before Hon. Musa Nuhu Garta, led Criminal Area Court II by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, for allegedly assauting his parents which contravened section 239, of the state penal code law.


This action followed a complaint by the mother of the young man, Mrs. Juliana Albert, at Doubeli police station on the 5th October, 2021, on how her son threated them. 

.

Mrs Julian, of Demsawo ward in Yola North Local Government Area, told the police that her biological son used force on her and her husband by beating them as a result of which they sustained serious injuries.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that out of love for her son, Juliana, recently secured a job for the defendant at Triacta construction company where the management of the company agreed to pay him the sum of N34, 000 monthly.


But after working for 2 weeks, the young man stormed the office of the manager and demanded for his salary or quit the job. 


When the manager advised him to wait until the end of the month, Markson, out of anger and disappointment, went out of his office and refused to show up since that day.


Earlier, when the content of the First Information Report was read to him when he was arraigned, he pleaded guilty after which the prosecutor, Corpral Ismail Mohammed.


He urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable him call a witness to corroborate his guilt plea.


The case was adjourned to the 3rd November, 2021.

NIGERIA POLICE TO RECRUIT 10,000 CONSTABLES FRIDAY 29



Adamawa state police command has said that the 2020 recruitment of 10, 000 constables into the force is slated for Friday 29th - Saturday 30th October, 2021 nationwide.


According to the command, the Computer Base Test (CBT) venue earlier venue which was Adamawa State University, is now rescheduled Modibbo Adama University (MAU).

 

The PPRO of the command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, in astatement on Friday said that the date and time still remain same as sent to candidate's SMS.

 

"The commissioner of police CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, while wishing all the candidates success equally, assured them of adequate security" Nguroje added.

FOMBINA ROYAL ACADEMY HOLDS MAIDEN CAREER DAY FOR PUPILS



It was historic day for pupils and their parents when the famous /renowned Yola based academy in Adamawa state, Fombina Royal Academy organised a maiden career day for its pupils.


The colourful event provided a unique opportunity where the pupils were enlightened as well as inspired on the career options available to them and how best to make a choice while at tender age. 


The maiden career day which was held at the premises of the school on Thursday, attracted professionals including administrators, lawyers, soldiers, police, engineers, politicians, doctors and host of others.


More importantly, the programme impacted on the lives of the pupils who in turn applauded the management of the Royal Academy for organising the event, saying that they can now be able to make a choice of a career to pursue.



Addressing the students, the Head Teacher of the Academy, Mrs. Nwosu Leticia, said that the event was organised to create opportunity to make the pupils make a choice on career to enable their parents work on it.


Mrs. Leticia, added that the event will bring out from the students what they want to be in life instead of forcing them either by their parents or guardians, saying this will make their parents to work on it to enable them succeed.



According to her, the academy invited professionals across diverse fields of human endeavour in order to talk and guide the pupils on their profession, and what it takes to become like them..


In their addresses, the Brigade Commander and the Commissioner of Police who were represented by the Commander 23rd Brigade Garrison, Major Abubakar Buhari and Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO), DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, talked to the pupils on the important role of the security personnel in the maintenace of law and order in the society.


On his part, Professor Abubakar Bakari, a Surgion with University of Maiduguri, said that becoming a doctor needs consistency and commitment, and challenged them to strive assidously towards in their academic pursuit.


He told them that anyone who wants to become a medical doctor must make the science subjects his major priority, saying that become a doctor is not a day job.


Also speaking, a consultant radiologist at Federal Medical Center (FMC) Yola, Dr Ishaq Musa called on them to read very hard and remain focused and determined so as to attain to their dreams.


In their addresses, Adamawa State Chairman of Nigeria Society of engineers, Eng Adamu Umar, APC Youth Leader, Abubakar Abubakar, a Lecturer College for Legal Studies Yola, Usman Salihu, urged the students to pay attention to their studies and become engineers, politicians and lawyers.

ADAMAWA GETS NEW UPPER AREA COURT 4..BEGINS SITTINGS


In his quest towards ensuring access to justice and quick dispensation of cases as well as efficient administration of justice, the Adamawa State Acting Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, has established new Upper Area Court number 4.


This brings to the total number of 4 upper Area courts in Jimeta Yola,  the Adamawa state capital.


The establishment of the court is in line with Justice Nathan's derive towards reforming and expanding judiciary so as to ensure efficient justice delivery; thereby, restoring hope and confidence in the judicial system in Adamawa.


Already, the new court presided by Honourable Ibrahim Ulenda Musa, its pioner judge has fully taken off on Monday where the judge presided over cases brought before the court with a view to ensuring justice to all.


NEWS PLATFORM who visited the court at former Chief Magistrate Court (CMC) YolaTown, saw the court wearing a new look with new case/suit files, judicial forms and other court's documents bearing the name of the new court with conspicuous and strategic signboard.


The pioner Hon.Judge was seen not only presiding over cases with his staff fully on ground but tirelessly working round the clock as a vibrant/workaholic Judge in ensuring the unprecedented policies and programmes of his lordship, the Acting CJ is not only achieved but must be seen to have been implemented to the latter as the last hope of a common.

MAN LANDS IN PRISON OVER ATTEMPT TO BUY AK-47 FOR MILITARY OFFICER



Tersoo Tarfa of Ngurore ward in Yola south Local Government Area, Adamawa has been remanded over alleged attempt to acquire Ak-47 riffle for Ezekiel Iorlam, a military officer.


Tarfa, was remanded in prison custody by Yola Chief Magistrate court I Admin, for the alleged offence which he denied committing it.


He was charged to court for criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit an offence to wit unlawful possession of fire arm contrary to sections 59 and 61 of penal code law.


The defendant was arrested on the 23rd September, 2021, by the operatives of the Zonal Command Investigative Department in preparation to illegally acquire fire arm from an unknown person now at large in Ngurore town.


The prosecutor, Rakika K. told the court that the operatives who acted on credible information, arrested the suspect while trying to withdraw money from the account of the military officer at the ATM machine.


According to the prosecutor, the military officer gave his ATM card to the suspect for him to withraw the money from his account for the purchase of the fire arm in but was nabbed in the process.


The court which was presided by Chif Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, ordered for the remand of the defendant and adjourned the matter to 3rd November, 2021.

18 YR OLD GIRL, 2 OTHER KIDNAPPERS WHO DEMANDED N30M RANSOM IN POLICE NET



The operatives of the Adamawa state command attached to SIB have arrested 3 suspected kidnappers including an 18 year old who demanded the sum of N30million ransom on an abducted minor.


The state police command in a statement by its Spokesman, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the suspects were arrested on the 17th October, 2021.


The operatives were able to rescue 9 year old Umaru Muhammed Zubairu a.k.a Hanif of No.9 Numan road, Jimeta,Yola North LGA.


 According to him, the Command's operatives attached to state intelligent Bureau (SIB) vigorously pursuit the kidnappers to their hideout in Sangere futy,Girei LGA and apprehended three including a female, while awaiting to receive the demanded Thirty million ransom.


The suspects include; Victoria Samaila, 18y,  resident of Bornoma ward, Sangere Futy,Girei LGA, Abdullahi Sale, 25, of no.22 Unguwan Hausawa,Jos South LGA, Plateau state and Ayuba Tanko 27,Yelwan Tudu, Bauchi, Bauchi state.


Nguroje said that the CP, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, is assuring the  government and good people of Adamawa state that the command will continue to do all within its powers to guarantee a stable security order across the State.

YOLA COURT REMANDS ES, 4 OTHERS FOR DIVERTING 800 SCHOOL BAGS



Yola Criminal Area Court II has remanded an Education Secretary of Mubi South Local Government Area, Jibrilla Babale, and 4 others for allegedly diverting 800 bags of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) meant for public schools in Mubi South and Mubi North LGAs.


Those remanded in prison custody along side the Education Secretary on Monday include; the UNICEF Co-ordinator of Distribution for Mubi South and North LGAs, Mustaspha Mohammed as well as Musa Mahmud, Aliyu Mohammed and Mohammed Yahaya.

Jibrilla and 4 other defendants were charged to court by the Commissioner Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, for criminal conspiracy, breach of official trust and receiving stolen property which contravened sections 60, 302, 307 and 312 of the penal code law, 2018 as amended.


Earlier, CP Barde, who was represented by Inspector Boyom Alex, told the court that a team of operatives attached to State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) Yola, led by Abraham Adamu, who acted on tip off, apprehended the suspects in connection to the alleged crime on the 14th and 16th, October, 2021, respectively.


Jibrilla, who was said to have been officially entrusted with UNICEF school bags to be distributed to pupils in public schools free of charge, allegedly diverted 800 pieces for his personal use.


According to the prosecutor, the ES diverted 800 bags and gave it to the UNICEF Distribution Co-ordinator, Mustapha Mohammed, who in turn converted and sold some to Musa Mahmud of Mubi North at the sum of N330, 000, only.


Likewise, Musa Mahmud, later sold the bags to Aliyu Mohammed and Mohammed Yahaya of Mubi North respectively at the sum of N420, 000, while knowing fully well that the bags were provided to distributed free of charge and not to be sold.


But when the First Information Report (FIR) was read and explained to them as applied by Inspector Boyom Alex, all the defendants responded in the negative that the police report was not true.


It was at this juncture that Counsel to all the defendants, T. U. Danjuma, prayed the court to admit all his clients to bail, saying that the defendants have given assurances that they will neither jump bail nor interfere into the ongoing investigation.


Danjuma, told the court that his clients have reasoble and credible sureties to bail them, and that they will always appear in court to stand their trial, pleading with court to use its discretion and admit them to bail.


While responding, Inspector Boyom, vehemently objected to the application filed by the defence counsel, saying that their operatives are out there to get others arrested,  and that granting them at this material time will jeopardise their effort.


Ruling, the presiding the Judge, Hon. Musa Nuhu Garta, ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody, and adjourned the case to 1st November, 2021,  for commencement of hearing, saying that bail application will be considered before the date.


After the sitting, the ES who was arrainged in court wearing complete white agbada, hid himself in the dock of the court where changed his clothes for comfortability in the prison custody.








CIVILIAN JTF, 2 OTHERS ARRESTED FOR STEALING JARMA JIMETA's CRV JEEP



In its renewed effort towards curtailing crime in Adamawa state, the Police Operatives attached to the Surveillance unit of the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) Yola, have arrested a 3-man criminal gang for theft of Jarma Jimeta's CRV FWD 2020 Jeep.



The suspects were said to have confessed to be the ones who had attacked and robbed a resident of Alh Musa Adamu (Jarma Jimeta) in Yola North LGA on 10th October, 2021, between 10am and 11pm and carted away his vehicle CRV FWD 2020 model Jeep.


The Spokesman of the state police, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, told NEWS PLATFORM in stastement on Monday that the breakthrough that led to the arrest of the suspects began with the arrest of a 21 year old Abdulrasheed Suleiman, a member Civilian JTF, Adamawa State chapter. 


Abdulrasheed who is the principal suspect and the private security guard of the house according to Nguroje, betrayed the trust entrusted on him and led the invasion. 


Nguroje, said that the confession of the suspect revealed how he had conspired with the other two suspects and stole his Boss's vehicle.


He said that an investigation was extended to FCT where Oguchukwu Augustine, 34, a resident of Amaulu Mbieri,Oweri, Imo State and Emmanuel Tochukwu, 29, a resident of Bonsacc avenue, Asaba, Delta state were arrested while trying to dispose the stolen vehicle.


He said that the Commissioner of police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, had commended the police officers for making it deficult for such criminals to escape arrest, and called on the general  public to continue give credible, actionable and timely information to police.

NAMDAS CONGRATULATES BILAL, APC OVER SUCCESSFUL CONGRESS



The Member representing Ganye, Toungo, Jada asnd Mayo Belwa coinstituecy at the House of Representatives, Hon. Andulrazak Namdas, has congratulated Alh. Ibrahim Bilal over his re-election as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  Adamawa state.


Bilal polled a total of 1, 063 votes to beat other contenders in an election that lasted for about 48hrs.


Hon. Namdas, a Governorship hopeful of the APC, who also voted at the election, congratulated members of the APC, the Chairman, Ibrahim Bilal, and other elected officials for their victories, saying that he is coinfidernt tgat the party will wax stronger as it prepares for the 2023 general elections.


"I'm happy that the exercise ended peacefully without any rancor. It was a credible exercise that allowed all party stakeholders to vote for a candidate of their choice and that is why it took that long for the elections to end," Namdas said.


The governorship aspirant assured that the party will reclaim power in Adamawa state and consolidate on its mandate at the national level in the 2023 general elections.


"The just-concluded congresses have shown how united our party is and how stronger we have become over time. This unity is what will propel us to reclaim our mandate in Adamawa state come 2023. We shall take over the government and ensure that we give to the people of the state what they rightfully deserve, which is equity, fairness, and dividend of democracy," the lawmaker added.


He called on those for whom the elections did not work in their favor to join forces with the elected executive and work for the success of the party. 


"I'm calling on all party supporters and stakeholders, especially those who contested for various positions at the just concluded congresses to keep away their differences and work for the success of the party". 


"I also urge the newly elected exco to strategize on ways of mending fences and operating an open door and inclusive leadership so that every single member of the party will benefit," Namdas added.


While assuring Bilal and the exco members of his loyalty and support, Namdas tasked them to strengthen the party and work towards ensuring no aggrieved member leaves the party.

4 KIDNAPPERS WHO THREATENED 2 OVER N7MILLION ARRESTED



Again, the Operatives of the police command attached to the Intelligent Department have arrested 4 suspected kidnappers terrorising the inhabitants of Shelleng and Yola South LGAs respectively.


The operatives have also recovered handsets from the suspects who were apprehended on the 15th September and 15th October, 2021.


The suspects include; Farouk Muktar, 40 and Hamza Dahiru, 39, are residents of Shelleng LGA, while Shuaibu Abdullahi, 30, and Saidu Addullahi, 31, hail from Namtari village, Yola south LGA respectively.



A statement by the command's image maker, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Saturday, said that the suspects had confessed to had committed the crime.


According him, the operatives had received report from one Ibrahim Jauro, a native of Shelleng LGA that he was called and threatened severally by an unknown persons as and demanded him to pay the sum of N2 million or be kidnapped.


He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, immidiately deployed the command's machinery to prevent the intended crime from happening; hereby, apprehending the criminal minded persons.


He said 2 other suspected kidnappers were nabbed on the 15th October, 2021, who threatened to kidnap one Yuguda Adamu, a resident of Namtari, in Yola LGA or pay N5million.


DSP Nguroje, said that all the suspects will be charged to court on completion of the investigation.

Justice Nathan, stated this while inaugurating a 4 Member Verification Committee he had constituted to verify the entire staff of the judiciary at the High Court's conference hall on Thursday.


He said: " we are here to see that Adamawa state judiciary is rated one of the best judiciary in the country", saying that judiciary belongs to all of them, and that they must strive to make it perform effectively.


He disclosed that on assumption of office, he discovered a lot of problems in judiciary in terms of staffing when compared to the total wage bill of over N200million monthly.


He explained that they can only achieve this whenever they are able to checkmate leakages, so that they can have funds to run judiciary effectively.

MAN KILLS 16 YR OLD DAUGHTER, DUMPS DEAD BODY IN THE BUSH IN ADAMAWA



A man simply identified as Mohammed Sale is currently in police custody for allegedly killing his own daughter, stripping her naked and dumping her dead body in the bush.


Mohammed, who is 42 years old and hails from Sabon Pegi in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, Adamawa state, connived with his friend (now at large) where they took his daughter, Aisha Mohammed, into the bush and beat her up with sticks which resulted in her untimely death.


It all began when the suspect and father of the deceased was informed by his first wife, Zulei Mohammed, that the late Aisha was not his biological daughter as they got married even when she was pregnant for another man.


It was gathered that since then, Mohammed lost his fatherly love or affection for Aisha and subsequently divorced Zulei, the mother of the deceased, leaving behind the deceased with his 2nd his wife.


It was on Saturday 9th October, 2021, that the accused and father of 9 connived with his friend where they took the innocent and harmless girl into the bush and pretended they were going to buy fish for the family.


Upon arrival into the bush, Mohammed and his friend mercilessly and ruthlessly descended on the girl where they hit her with sticks to death, then they stripped her naked and abandoned her dead body in the bush.


While on their way back home after carrying out their mission, Mohammed was advised by his friend not to dare reveal it to anybody; instead, he should report it to the police that his daughter got missing.


As resolved, he rushed headlong and lodged his complaint of missing daughter before Mayo Belwa divisional headquarters where the police, family members in his company searched nooks and crannies of the community but to no avail. 


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that it was at this juncture that the police began to suspect that he could be the one responsible for the missing girl. He was there and then interrogated but was unable to convince the police.


He was later brought to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the State Police headquarters for further investigation where he confessed to had committed the heinous crime.


In the course of investigation, the operatives of the Department were able to identify the scene of the crime where they recovered the corpse. 


When contacted, the PPRO of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident to NEWS PLATFORM, saying that the suspect has been arrested and is being investigated.


DSP Nguroje, assured that the accused person will be charged to court for prosecution after the completion of the investigation.

POLICE ARREST 4 OUT OF 7 KIDNAPPERS OF NGURORE WIDOW, DAUGHTER



The Operatives of the Anti- Kidnapping Unit of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested four(4) notorious and high-profile suspected kidnappers who abducted Hauwa Umaru and her daughter in Ngurore, Yola South LGA.


The operatives have also recovered 1 AK-47 Rifle with 16 rounds of lives ammunitions from the suspects.


The suspects include; Buba Ibrahim (aka) Babangida, 20, native of Wuro Bilal village, Ngurore District ,Yola South LGA, Tumba Alhaji Dan Bappa, 25, native of Ibbare district,Yola South LGA, Buba Alhaji Abdu, a resident of Ibbare, Ngurore District and Abdullahi Lawal, a resident of Lau local government area,Taraba state.


A statement by the PPRO, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, which was made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Thursday, said that the suspects confessed during police investigations to have abducted Hauwa Umaru and her daughter and eventually attacked Divisional Police headquarters in Ngurore.


DSP Nguroje, said that the arrest followed the order by the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, and unrelenting effort by the Police towards ensuring perpetrators of the dastardly act are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.  

 

According to him, the breakthrough which led to the arrest of the suspects began with the arrest of Babangida, who is one of the principal suspects in the kidnap operation. 


He said that the confession of the suspect revealed how they abducted Hauwa Umaru, her daughter, one Alhaji Bahago of Ibbare and the attacked on Ngurore police station on the 8th and 9th October, 2021. 


He added that the police were assisted by some professional Hunters who apprehended (3) other members of the gang.


 

He said that the Command under CP Barde is committed to working with law abiding citizens to secure the state and reduce crime to the barest minimum and assured that all the suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigations.


ADAMAWA CJ INAUGURATES VERIFICATION C'TEE TO FISH OUT GHOST WORKERS



Acting Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Honourable Justice Nathan Musa, on Thursday, inaugurated a 4 Member Committee to embark on verification exercise of the entire staff of judiciary.


Those inaugurated to serve in the committee include; Hon. Christie N. Tarfa (DCR Personnel), Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Halilu Chiroma (DCR Probate), Vice Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Bawuro(DCR Procurement), Member, while Barr. Bashiru Musa Santuraki is to serve as Secretary.


The Committee is to determine the authentic /genuine total number of permanent staff of the judiciary including their present rank/status, as well as the genuinety of the total number of casual staff(month to month) of the judiciary.


The committee is also expected to determine issues of illegal and unsubstantiated promotions in terms of grade level and steps, and also to determine total number of deceased persons, those who left the service and still on payroll of judiciary.


The committee has 2 weeks within which to submit its maiden or interim report and has total of 4 weeks to complete its assignment.


Speaking while inagurating the committee on Thursday, the Acting CJ, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, said that the committee is set up primarily to verify the entire staff of judiciary which comprise of the High courts, the Sharia court and the Customary court of Appeal.


Justice Nathan, said that on assumption of office, he discovered that there are problems in terms of staffing of the entire judiciary when compared to the total wage bill of over N200million monthly.


He stated that judiciary is now independent because it is self accounting which means that they are to pay salaries for themselves from their own allocation which they receive directly from the allocation committee.


He added that he had found out that there are courts that are over staffed, while others are under staffed, and that some staff are no longer staff of judiciary either by reason of death, retirement, transfer of service, yet their salaries are still running or still on the payroll of judiciary.


While on temporary staff, he said he also found out that some temporary staff are on payroll but do not have duty post, saying that while some of them are over paid, others are under paid.


According to him, he felt there is the need to constitute a committee to checkmate all the anomalies because judiciary belongs to all of them, explaining that he is there to ensure that the state judiciary is rated the best in the country.


He urged them to checkmate all the leakages so that they can have funds to run the judiciary, pointing out that the function of the committee is to go to the field and confirm all those things he mentioned and make recommendations for upward presentation to the Judicial Service Commission for necessary action. 


Justice Nathan Musa, told them that as men of proven integrity and senior staff of judiciary, they are expected to take the job very seriously, saying that he is confident that they will not fail the people of the state.


While congratulating them, he charged them not witchunt anybody as the committee is a fact finding one, and expected to get facts and present it to the top hierarchy of the judiciary in order to look into it.


Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Christie N. Tarfa (DCR Personnel), appreciated the Acting CJ for the confidence reposed in them, and assured him of their commitment towards carrying out the assignment.


Hon. Christie, said that judiciary is for all of them and it is their responsibility to make things work, and promised not witchunt anybody in the course carrying out their assignment.

COURT NULLIFIES APC CONGRESS FOR MUBI SOUTH LGA



Adamawa State High Court on Wednesday nullified the congress for Chairmanship of All Progressives Congress(APC), Mubi South Local Government Area.


The presiding judge, Honourable Justice Kanyson S. Lawanson, further ordered for fresh congress in the affected LGA within 2 weeks, declaring that the purported congress which produced Alhaji Njobdi Sale Kwaja, is null and void.


According to the court, there was no APC Congress held on the 4th day of September, 2021 for the Chairmanship in the affected LGA.

MAN, 61 DUPES 33 APPLICANTS N4.950M WITH FAKE COLLEGE OF HEALTH NUMAN



A 61 year old Ajiboye Kadmiel of Imbru ward in Numan Local Governmernt Area, Adamawa state has been remanded in a prison custody for allegedly duping 33 applicants the sum of N4.950million. 


The Chief Magistrate Court I admin, ordered for the remand of the 61 year old man after he pleaded guilty for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.


Kadmiel, was dragged before the court by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, for allegedly collecting the sum of N150, 000 from the affected applicants under the pretence of registering them into Passion College of Health and Remedial Science, Numan in Adamawa state.


The CP told the court that the defendant had assured the affected applicants of writing examination after he collected their money, but refused to register them; instead, converted their money to his personal use.


CP Barde, who was represented by Inspector Zakka Musa, informed the court that it was one Jude B. Madaki, of Sabon Pegi Numan LGA and several others that reported the matter to the police on the 2nd September, 2021.


According to the First Information Report (FIR) tendered in court by Inspector Musa, the accused person deceived the complainants and collected their money in 2017 and 2018 respectively.


The FIR revealed that the number of the applicants who became victims stood at 20, while the alleged amount of money collected by the accused person was N3million. 


But while the case was being mentioned, so many applicants stormed the court, and said that the number of applicants is 33 and that the money collected amounted to N4.950million.


The applicants said that some of the victims gave their statements at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) very late and while the matter was going on in court, and subsequently joined as parties.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the applicants are indigenes of Numan, Demsa,  Lamurde, Guyuk, Fufore, Shelleng, Mayo Belwa, Song LGAs, while others are from Taraba state.


When the FIR was read to the accused person, he admitted collecting the money.


Ruling on the application filed by the prosecutor, Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, ordered that the defendant be remanded at a correctional centre and adjourned the case to the 18th October, 2021.






ADAMAWA POLICE ARREST 3 CATTLE RUSTLERS, RECOVER GUNS, CATTLE



Operatives of the Adamawa Police Command attached to the State Intelligence Bureau in collaboration with Vigilantes of Pula'aku Association have apprehended 3 suspected cattle rustlers.


The operatives also recovered two fabricated locally made guns, two cows, among others from the suspects.


The suspects include; a 27 year old Ahmadu Usman, resident of Wuro Gombe, 20 year old Umaru Jauro Bobbo, resident of kauramai village, and 22 year old Umar Sahabo, resident of Gengle village, all in Mayo-Belwa LGA.


The command in a statement by its image maker, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM, said that the operatives arrested the suspects while on an intensive surveillance patrol along Mayo-Belwa and Fufore LGAs to ensure safety and security.



DSP Nguroje, said the suspects specialised in cattle rustling particularly from areas of Kabillo,Karlahi, Yadim and Chigari villages of Fufore LGA, saying they were arrested with 2 cows while on their way to deliver them to notorious receivers in Cameroon Republic.


He said that the CP, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, who talks tough on the Boader cattle rustling, directed SIB and Divisional Police Officers(DPOs) to  checkmate such criminal activities in their Areas and apprehend them.


He added that the CP had directed that the matter be discreetly investigated and called on the general public especially those around the boarder areas to report men of suspicious character to police officers or via these GSM numbers :0808967131, 08107364974 and 08053872326.

UNDERAGE GIRLS ASK ADHA TO STOP PARENTS FROM GIVING THEM OUT FOR MARRIAGE



Underage girls in Adamawa State have sought for the House of Assembly's intervention to stop their parents from giving them out for marriage until after completing Secondary School.


To this end, the underage girls made appealed to the Honourable Members to enact a legislation prohibiting their fathers, mothers and guardians from forcing them into early marriage.  


The representative of the underage girls and a 13 year old JSS 3 Student, Government Day Junior Secondary School, Luggere in Yola North LGA, Amira Abdullahi, made the call at the assembly on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child.


Amira, pleaded with assembly to give the "Child Protection Bill" a speedy passage since it has scaled through first reading at the hallowed chamber, adding that an enactment of "Early Marriage Prohibition Bill" will prevent their parents from giving them out for early marriage.


She further appealed to the assembly to ensure that the girls are protected from cases of rape and other forms of gender based violence and child abuse done to girls in the state.


While commending the assembly for passing the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) (VAPP), Law and other education friendly laws that are capable of bettering education system and standards in the state.


She said that the girls have confidence in the 7th assembly to addressing their challenges, and pledged their commitment towards their studies and character moulding so as to become role models in the society. 


Responding, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, congratulated the girls for marking 2021 International Day of the Girl Child, and pledged the readiness of the assembly to legislate on the proposed bills. 


EX- ADAMAWA NBA CHAIR CONGRATULATES OTA, FIDA OVER SUCCESSFUL WEEK



The former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association(NBA) Adamawa state branch, Barr. Aji Kamale, has congratulated OTA and the International Federation of Women Lawyers(FIDA) Ekiti branch over a successful 2021 annual week.


Barr. Kamale, in a congratulatory message to OTA and FIDA branches, emphasized on the significance of the theme of 2021 law week " Technology in the Administration of Justice " 


He stated that the theme of the event was carefully selected and that it has sharpened discourse on values of the modern technology among lawyers. 


He noted with satisfaction how the Women Lawyers could not leave any stone unturned in discussing the topic "Equality and Justice" in a democratic setting, saying that social justice is paramount, and further congratulated them on the hitch free annual week.
