ADAMAWA: 600 LG STAFF RETIRE AS ADHA C'TEE CALLS FOR NEW RECRUITMENT

 


Adamawa State Local Government Service Commission says about 600 staff of Local Government Councils in the state have retired from service in the last 5 years.


This is coming as the Adamawa State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Petitions, Public Service and Electoral Matters headed by Hon. Adwawa Donglock(Guyuk) has called for the recruitment of new staff so as to fill in the vacant positions created as a result of the retirement.


Hon. Adwawa who made the call during a familiarisation visit on the Commission on Tuesday, urged the Commission to compile the list of vacancies created as a result of the retirement or death and seek approval for the recruitment of new staff to fill in the vacant positions.


According to the Chairman, the LGCs are now financially autonomous and can be able to recruit new staff, and urged the Commission to do everything possible towards creating job opportunities for their constituents across all the LGAs in line with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration's agenda.


The Lawmaker told the leadership of the Commission that the primary reason behind the visit was to enable the Members of  the Committee familiarise themselves with Commission, and said that the Committee is ready to work together for the progress of the Commission, LGCs and the state in general.


Speaking while receiving the Chairman and Members of the House Committee, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. P. P. Power stated that hundreds of staff have retired from service as a result of which vacant positions were created.


Dr. Power told the Members that he signs the retirement letters of the staff on daily basis, and that currently the Commission is in dire need of recruitment of new staff to cover 600 vacancies created as well as promotion of serving staff that are due.


According to him, before assumption of office of the new leadership of the Commission, the Permanent Secretary and other Management Staff had filled the vacancies of 43 staff that retired.


Dr. P. P. Power, informed them that part of the activities of the Commission is to recruit or employ new workers, ensure their welfare and discipline erring staff and pledged to liaise with the Honourable Committee so as to address some of their operational challenges.
