ATTACK ON HONG COMMUNITY: EMNAMU EXONERATED BY VICTIM

A Victim of recent attack in Kala'a community, Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Chavalada John, has exonerated the Nigeria Preacher and the President Emnamu Foundation from the attack.

Chavalada, clarified that the destruction was perpetrated by the youth who acted on their own and not based on the order of the President of the Foundation, and Humanitarian Activist, Dr. Emmanuel Musa.

It could be recalled that some youth in Kala'a community burnt down 2 houses on the 22nd December, 2022 following an accusation that the owners practise witchcraft.

After the attack, an online media reported that it was the Cleric and Presidernt of the Foundation, Dr. Emmanuel Musa, who instigated the congregants to kill and burn down the houses belonging to the perceived enemies.

It was also reported that Dr. Emmanuel, ordered the congregants during a crusade which he had organised to kill as well as burn down houses of the said enemies whom he had accused of witchcraft.

But reacting on the online report, Chavalada, who had his house, a car, motorcycle, 20 bags of beans, 20 bags of ground nut and several other property burnt, said it is not true that it was Dr. Emmanuel, who instigated the youth to perpetrate the crime.

Chavalada, a successful business man in the community explained that even before the incident, some people who are not comfortable with his progress in particular, kept on accusing him and calling him several names.

He alleged that the youth burnt his property worth N36.374million without him harming anybody, saying that he became an arch enemy to some people simply because God, had made his business to flourish and nothing else.

According to him, Dr. Emnamu, who has been rendering humanitarian services to hundreds of people irrespective of political, economic and religious differences cannot be so wicked to instigate people to kill and burn the property of people whom he had helped.

He said that Dr. Emnamu, had contributed enormously in improving his living standard and that of his family, and that he will continue to remain grateful to him, saying that Dr. Emmanuel, personally sympathised with him over the incident.

He pointed out that some people accused him of destroying peoples' destiny as well as using charms to run his business and described their allegation as baseless, insisting that such people are hell bent in ruining his business and his life.

Chavalada, disclosed that some people are not happy because of the way he has been assisting people and decided to use the opportunity to terminate his life and that of his of family, and appreciated God for sparing his life and that of his family.

HON. ADWAWA MOVES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF G/CORN MARKET IN GUYUK

The Member representing Guyuk Constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Adwawa Donglock, has taken steps towards the establishment of a befitting guinea corn market in Guyuk LGA.

Guyuk LGA is adjudged to be the largest guinea corn producer in the state if not the whole North East, but it is without a befitting market and modern processing facilities.

It is in the light of the foregoing that the legislator, came up with an idea which if finally becomes a reality, the market will encourage more production of guinea corn as well as improve the living standard of the citizens.

According to Hon. Adwawa, the market will significantly enhance the revenue profile of the Local Government Council, neighbouring LGAs and Adamawa State in general.

In order to ensure his dream and that of his constituents become a reality, the legislastor has since concluded necessary legislative processes to sponsoring a motion to that effect.

NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the noble idea of the lawmaker is not only to ensure the establishment of a standard market, but ensure it is given a legislative backing.

Hon. Adwawa, was of the view that the Guyuk Guinea Corn market will tremendously contribute just like the way Ganye and Mubi International Cattle Market respectively enhance the internally generated revenue for the services of the state

The PDP Legislator said that the establishment of the cattle market in Mubi and Ganye is not by accident or mere desire to do so, but taking into cognisance the geographical proximity to the areas which rear/produce cattle.

Hon. Adwawa, who is the Chairman House Committee on Petition, Public Service and Electoral Matters, explained that buyers and sellers will find it very conducive to transact business in the LGA which will eventually bring about socio economic development.

According to him, the multinational companies which use guinea corn as its raw materials will be attracted to the market if established and equipped with modern facilities.

Hon. Adwawa, said that the market will not only be flooded with guinea corn in and around Guyuk LGA but Numan, Shelleng and Lamurde LGAs as well as neighbouring states like Gombe, Borno and Taraba who will patronize the market to either sale or buy it.

Due to the demand of guinea corn in the world, according to him, companies which use it will likely establish companies which will eventually bring about the engagement of unemployed youth.

He noted that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's drive to boosting the revenue profile of the state would be adequately complemented by the Guyuk corn market just like the aforementioned International Cattle Markets.

The lawmaker applauded the foresight of Fintiri's administration by coming up with the ADAS programme, saying that it will bring about food security and enhance IGR in the agricultural sector as it is being recorded.

Hon. Adwawa Donglock, stated that his electorate will witness economic, social and infrastructural development if the guinea corn market is established considering how his people produce it in large quantity.

APC MUBI NORTH HAS NO POWER TO EXPEL ME, SEN. ABBO TELLS COURT

The Senator representing Adamawa Northern Senatorial District, Ishaku Abbo, says the Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Mubi North Local Government Area has no power whatsoever to expel from the party.

It is against this backdrop that the Senator has prayed the State High Court of Justice presided by Hon. Justice Danladi Mohammed, to dismiss suit seeking an order to restrain him from re-contesting.

Already, the presiding judge of the trial court has reserved judgement in suit instituted against the Senator by 2 members of the party from Mubi North LGA, saying that the date would be communicated to the parties.

The APC members, Abdullahi Suleiman and Yusha'u Usman of Kolere and Sabon Layi wards, Mubi North LGA, respectively, sued the Senator and sought for an interpretation regarding his status in APC.

The plaintiffs through their Counsel, Abubakar Ali esq, urged the court to declare that Sen. Abbo, is not entitled to be a candidate of the APC in the forthcoming general election in the zone since according to them he had been expelled.

But at the hearing of the matter on Thursday, Counsel to the Senator, E. O. Odo esq, informed the court that his client has not been formally communicated by APC or anybody whatsoever that he had been expelled from the party.

He argued that his client had not committed any breach of the Constitution of the party as alleged by the plaintiffs to warrant being punished at all by the party or any of its organ.

He stated that nobody ever attempted to personally serve Senator Abbo, with the said complaint or any complaint whatsoever before the decision to expel him from the party was taken.

He explained that the party's Constitution provides that where it is proposed to expel a member of the exco, political office holder, or a member of the legislative house from membership of the party, such a proposal shall be submitted to the National exco, which decision shall be final.

According to him, for the plaintiffs to show that the Senator has been expelled, they need to provide the decision of the National exco of the party on the subject, saying that in the absence of that, the plaintiffs have proven nothing and will not be entitled to any of the reliefs sought.

He told the court that the freedom of thought conscience and religion and the freedom of expression of any person cannot be limited by membership of a political party.

He insisted that the Senator has a right as a Nigerian to express his opinion on National issues including the choice of the APC's presidential flag bearer and running mate.

He further argued that the defendant has never engaged in any anti-party activities of any kind and has also not tampered with the process of internal democracy of the APC in any way.

He challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit which relates to the subject in which the plaintiffs have not any special or sufficient interest, saying that suit relates to membership of a political party, a subject that is not justiciable among other reasons.

E.O. Odo esq, also contended that even if the court has the requisite jurisdiction to entertain the suit, it should be dismissed on its merit as the plaintiffs have not proven their entitlement to the reliefs sought.

On his part, Counsel to the plaintiffs, Abubakar Ali esq, had while addressing the court, urged it to discountenance all the submissions of the Counsel to the defendant and grant all the reliffs sought by the plaintiffs.

FORGERY: HOW COURT DISMISSED 2 SUITS AGAINST ADHA SPEAKER

Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas and Ibrahim Mustapha(Baba 10)

The Federal High Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa state has put to rest the legal tussle over allegation of falsification of documents involving the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas.

This followed 2 separate judgements delivered in 2 different suits instituted against the Speaker by Mohammed Murtala Modibbo and Ibrahim Mustapha (Baba 10) respectively.

Modibbo and Ibrahim sued Iya Abbas, who was declared the winner of the PDP primary election conducted on the 23rd May, 2022, for Adamawa Central Senatorial District.

In their separate suits, the duo accused the Speaker of submitting falsified documents to the PDP electoral committee and asked the court to disqualify him from participating in the 2023 election.

Out of the 3 cases filed by the plaintiffs ( Modibbo 1 and Ibrahim 2), the court had while delivering judgement in one of the cases, annulled the election which produced the Speaker as the flagbearer.

Hon. Justice A. M. Anka, the presiding judge of the court did not only nullify and decline to order for fresh primary, but barred the party from fielding a candidate to represent the zone.

The judge handed down the judgement in one of the suits instituted by Baba10 and dismissed one other after finding it unmeritorious.

Baba 10 succeeded in voiding the election due to the participation of Auwal D. Tukur, who did not resign his appointment as Chairman Governing Council, State University Mubi.

At the moment, the party has no candidate; however, it is optimistic of fielding its candidate following the appeal filed by Iya Abbas, who is praying the appellate court to set aside the decision of the lower court.

NEWS PLATFROM gathered that in all the 3 suits, the plaintiffs accused the Speaker of making false declaration under oath and asked the trial court to disqualify him from contesting.

It is yet clear whether the duo will seek redress at the appeal court, but currently, both of them woefully failed to disqualify the Speaker based on their allegations of discrepancies in the declaration of age.

In his judgement, the judge pronounced that the Speaker is qualified to seek election to represent the senatorial district in 2023, a verdict described by many as a landmark judgement.

The trial court was of the view that the mode of commencement was wrongly done, and that it cannot be resolved vide affidavit of evidence as contained therein the originating summons.

It declared that the procedure of originating summons was wrongly enlisted to prosecute the allegations of various crimes levelled against the Speaker as they are required to be proved beyond iota doubt, and that the mode should be a writ of summons instead of the former.

Furthermore, the court held that going by the deposition, the speaker is 49 years old and qualify to vie for the seat, and that any false declaration therefore is not meant to circumvent Constitutional requirement as to the age limit.

It further delcared that where there is a matter of falsification of documents or rendering of a false statement as alleged, it must relate to a qualifying or disqualifying factor by virtue of the Constitution.

On the issue jurisdiction, he stated that the trial court lacks jurisdiction to entertain it.

While on the issue of party membership of the speaker, he held that the issue of membership of a political party is a business of a political party.
