BINANI ACCEPTS ELECTORAL DEFEAT, THANKS SUPPORTERS



Embattled APC Governorship Candidate in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru Binani, has accepted the Supreme Court verdict which affirmed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's election.


Binani had while reacting to the judgement of the Apex Court on Wednesday, said that she had accepted judgement in good fate.


The female Governorship Candidate was floored at the polls by Governor Fintiri as well as at the Election Tribunal, Appeal Court and Supreme Court, which marks the end of the legal battle on the governorship seat.


She also appealed to her teeming supporters to accept the judgement in good fate, saying that afterall there must be a winner and a loser.


She appreciated her supporters for their immense contributions in one way or the other from the beginning of the contest to date.

SUPREME COURT: EMNAMU FOUNDATION FELICITATES WITH FINTIRI



The President and founder Emmnamu foundation Dr Emmanuel Musa has congratulated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on his victory at the Supreme Court. 


The Adamawa Born philantropist, said the victory of the Governor at the Supreme Court is the confirmation of the peoples' mandate for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri  during the 2023 Governorship elections. 


Dr Emmanuel Musa in a congratulatory message personally signed said the decision of the Apex Court has brought to an end the issue of who wins the Governorship of Adamawa state. 


The humanitarian president maintained that the decision of Adamawa people in voting Governor Fintiri is in recognition of his developmental strides in the last four years and wondered how someone will want to deprive the people of their mandate. 


Dr Emmanuel Musa while wishing the Governor successful tenure urged him to settle down for Governance in continuation of his developmental programs to the good people of the state.


The founder and president Emnamu foundation, Dr Emmanuel Musa use the medium to call on Adamawa citizens to continue to support Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as he continue with the good works.

NUMAN LAWMAKER CELEBRATES FINTIRI'S VICTORY AT SUPREME COURT


The member representing Numan constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo, has celebrated the Supreme Court victory affirming Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s election.


Reacting on the judgement of the court on his behalf and entire Numan electorate, on Wednesday, hours after the supreme court’s verdict, Hon. Mackondo, extended his hearty congratulations to the Governor over the victory.


The apex court on Wednesday ended legal tussle on Adamawa State governorship poll by dismissing an appeal filed before it by Aishatu Dahiru Binani, seeking the nullification of the exercise.


Rt. Hon. Mackondo and former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, congratulated Governor Fintiri, his Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, PDP family for clinching victory at the Supreme Court.


The PDP lawmaker noted that the thrilling triumph marks the end of a drawn-out legal battle, illuminating the power of resilience and underlining the efficacy of our legal system, and applauded the judiciary for affirming Fintiri's election.


According to him, today’s verdict shows not just an electoral win but an affirmation of the peoples' mandate and faith in Governor Fintiri's good leadership and commended him and his administration for the giant strides he had recorded in critical sectors.


“Once again, congratulations on your profound legal victory at the court. Under your esteemed leadership, we trust that Adamawa State will reach unprecedented heights”.

APEX COURT: SONG LEGISLATOR HAILS VERDICT, CONGRATULATES FINTIRI



Adamawa State House of Assembly Lawmaker representing Song constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, has hailed Supreme Court judgement which affirmed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's election.


Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, however congratulated Governor Fintiri and the entire citizens over the victory at the Supreme Court in Abuja.


The apex court on Wednesday, dismissed an appeal filed by the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).


While delivering Judgement, the court held that the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Hudu Ari Yunusa, has no power to declare the result of governorship poll as he did.


In a congratulatory message, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, said that the judgement which affirmed earlier verdicts of lower courts has proven that the mandate of the people of the state will not be shortchanged. 


He commended the apex court for its wise decision in giving the entire Adamawa State electorate their mandate, saying that the judgement is well deserved and worthy of celebration.


According to him, the victory at the court is a victory for all, saying that the decision will now enable the "Fresh Air Governor" to concentrate in delivering on his mandate.


He extended his hearty congratulations to Fintiri, his Deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa, and the PDP family on his behalf and the entire Song electorate and wished him sound health, wisdom and foresight to continue in piloting the affairs of the state.

The Member representing Michika Constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Moses Yerima Zah, has congratulated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on his victory at the Supreme Court.


The supreme court on Wednesday, dismissed an appeal brought before it by the Governornorship Candidate of the APC, Aishatu Binani against Governor Fintiri.


In his congratulatory message, Hon. Moses Yerima Zah, rejoiced with "Fresh Air Governor" on his behalf and the entire Michika electorate on his victory at the Election Petitions Tribunal, Appeal Court as well as at the Supreme Court respectively.


"I wish on bahalf of the good people of Michika constituency felicitates with you and the entire Adamawa electorate on the Supreme Court verdict. May God continue to strengthen and grant you more wisdom, foresight to continue with the good work".


The PDP lawmaker said that the verdict of the Supreme Court underscores the importance of transparency and legality in democratic process and commended the decision of the court.


He applauded Governor Fintiri's remarkable achievements in infrastructural development in his 1st tenure as well as 2nd tenure, saying that the Governor has written his name in gold in terms of development.


He also commended the Supreme Court judges for affirming the election of the Governor and prayed God to continue to protect and grant them more wisdom to do justice to cases filed before them considering the fact that court is the last hope of common man.


Hon. Moses Yerima Zah, appealed to his electorate to rally round Governor Fintiri, and his administration to enable it provide more dividends of democracy to the citizens, and pledged his loyalty and unflinching support to the Governor and his administration.

HUDU HAS NO POWER TO DECLARE ELECTION RESULT- S' COURT



The Supreme of Court on Wednesday, dismissed the appeal filed by APC Governorship Candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Binani against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.


The court dismissed the appeal, saying that the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Hudu Yunusa Ari, has no vires to declare the result. 


According to the apex court, it is the returning officer that has powers to declare election results and its winner.

NDLEA NABS 365 SUSPECTS, SEIZES 1.845KG OF ILLICIT DRUGS IN ADAMAWA



The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Adamawa State Command has arrested no fewer than 365 including 5 female drug offenders in 2023.


The command has secured the convictions of 174 suspects during the period under review and recorded total seizure of 1,845.070 kg (1.8 tons) of assorted illicit drugs.


Some of the assorted drugs seized include: Cannabis Sativa,1,081,866 kg, Methamphetamine, 0.51706 kg, Formalin (Suck & Die) 71 drums 65 jerricans of 25 titres (14,830 litres), Akuskura Herbal Mixture, 60.150 kg Ammunition, 34 RLA 17.62 mm caliber).


According to the command, the psychotropic substances seized include: Tramadol Caps/Tabs/Injection, 160.00206kg Diazepam Tabs, 14.94651kg, Exol Tabs, 498.4009kg, Rohypnol Tabs 0.0926 kg, Cough syrup with codeine 28.0926kg and Pentazocine injection 1.082kg.


The Commander NDLEA Adamawa State Command, Agboalu Femi Samson, disclosed this while briefing press on the operational activities of the command in the year 2023, on Monday.


Agboalu, disclosed that aside the arrest and seizure in the year under review, the command had secured the final forfeiture of 3 cars used for the conveying of drugs.


He said that the monetary exhibit forfeited to FG was N821,270.00, adding that the command successfully treated, counselled and rehabilitated people with drug use disorder and deployed personnel as Drug Intelligence Officers(DIOs) across the 21 LGAs.


He said that an aggressive action against drug dealers and illicit drug trafficking was carried out in 2 approaches including Supply Reduction Strategy and Drug Demand Reduction which are the major strategic pillars in the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) 2021 2025. 


He explained that the Supply Reduction efforts of the Command involves the continuous disruption of drug trafficking and abuse; making the drug business unprofitable and also reducing the diversion of psychotropic substances through our arrests and seizures.


Agboalu Femi Samson, said it is gratifying to note that the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. M. B. Marwa (Rtd) has brought the presence of NDLEA to all nooks and crannies of the country and applauded his commitment.

FEMALE STUDENT COMMITS SUICIDE AS BOYFRIEND ENDS RELATIONSHIP



A young female student at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State, Jamima Shetima Balami, has reportedly taken her own life. 


A young female student at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State, Jamima Shetima Balami, has reportedly taken her own life.


The 24-year-old was a National Diploma II student of Mass Communication and was about to complete her Industrial Training (IT) at Adamawa Television (ATV) in Yola at the time of her death.


Balami, who hailed from Garkida Gombi, was reportedly found dead at her residence in Vinikilang, also known as Hayin Gada, in the Girei Local Government Area of the state.


It is believed that she ingested a substance suspected to be rat poison.


According to reports, Balami’s boyfriend, said to be a university lecturer, asked her to end their relationship, which may have been a contributing factor to her decision to take her own life.


The father of the deceased reported the matter to the police, and the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Monday.


He explained that the matter had been reported in two different versions, but the police have promised to investigate the matter thoroughly to determine the true cause of the young woman’s death.

ADHA ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS ON A BILLL TO ESTABLISH ITDA



Adamawa State House of Assembly Adhoc Committee on a Bill for a Law to Establish Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) Law, 2023, has engaged stakeholders on the merits of the proposed bill.


The stakeholders engagement and public hearing which was held on Monday, drew several stakeholders who threw their weight behind the establishment of the agency in the state.


Declaring the event open, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, said that embracing digital transformation is not just a necessity but strategic for the progress of the state in an era of rapid technological advancement.


Rt. Hon. Bathiya, told the stakeholders that having an ICT compliance in all Ministries, Development and Agencies will go along way in enhancing productivity and service delivery in the State.


He stated that the state is also lucky to have Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who has the love of the masses at heart thereby providing condusive atmosphere for investors into the state.


He pointed out that one of the key area that the State government under Governor Ahmadu Umani Fintiri has accorded priority is the ICT; hence, his commitment to empowering youths to become self reliant.


"Your valuable input today, is pivotal as we collectively shape the future of technology in Adamawa State. Let us work together to create an enabling environment that nurtures digital Innovation, skills development, and entrepreneurship", He added.


Having ICT centre will also serve as an avenue for revamping the economy of the state as well as providing job opportunity for the youths.


According to him, the proposed legislation reflects their  commitment to fostering innovation digital literacy, and economic development through information technology.


In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Adhoc Committee, Hon. Ahmed Jingi Belel, appreciated the stakeholders for honouring the invitation to bring in their inputs towards establishing the agency.


Hon. Ahmed who is the member representing Maiha constituency, noted that the engagement will enable them exchange ideas towards the establishment of the agency.


He pledged the readiness of the assembly to work together with the stakeholders towards promoting ICT for the benefit of the citizens in the state.


On her part, a member of the committee who is the member representing Demsa constituency, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, tasked the stakeholders on the need to bring in relevant inputs to enable the bill stand the test of time.


Responding, the Secretary to the State Government(SSG), Auwal Tukur, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Political, Ibrahim Buba, commended the assembly for its wisdom in organising the event. 


He added that the inputs submitted by the stakeholders will guarantee the sustainability of the agency if finally created, and wished them fruitfull deliberations.


In his vote of thanks, the Special Adviser to Governor Fintiri, on e-Governance, Dr. Ahmed Hamajam, thanked the assembly for organising the event and Governor Fintiri for floating the bill.


Dr. Hamajam, said that the assembly is extremely effective in handling the bill, and that the Governor has the state at heart to see Adamawa State digitally competes with other states specifically Lagos state.

RT. HON. LAORI COMMISSIONS CONFERENCE HALL AT BORRONG IN DEMSA LGA

The Member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, Hon. Kwamoti La'ori, has commissioned a multi-Purpose hall at Borrong in Demsa LGA.


The hall was dedicated to late Waziri Mbula, Chief John Eddy Manassah in recognition of his effort towards uniting people in the society.



Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Laori, paid tribute to the late Waziri Mbula and prayed to God to continue to be a symbol of unity, mutual understanding and peace, for the local community.


He recalled that at an event held at Prince Medan Teneke's town hall that he had built in Demsa town, some of the constituencies asked to be given the block of classrooms he built in Lasala, Gwamba Ward; The JJ Fwa examination hall in Mbula area, and the John Eddy Manassa hall which was inaugurated in Borrong on Saturday.


Therefore, he appealed to the people of the constituency to continue to approach him with meaningful words and ideas that will move the people of his constituency forward and assure them that his ears are open at all times. .


In addition to the progress achieved in the development of the people which affected the constituencies in all parts of his constituency, the member of reps implemented various infrastructure projects in the areas of education, health, electricity, drinking water and other important parts in almost 90% of the 30 constituencies that comprise Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, in Demsa local government, Dilli Ward is the only one left to touch.


In her speech shortly before the commissiong of the multi-purpose hall, Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta, deputy governor of Adamawa, praised the member for bridging the gap and providing infrastructure in his constituency, where she called for the maintenance of the place and management and workshops, wedding receptions and other important social gatherings in the area.


Among the dignitaries who attended the event were the member representing Demsa Local Government in Adamawa state House of Assembly and the majority leader of the House Hon. Kate Mamuno, and the member of representing Numan local government in the state House assembly, Hon. Pwamwakaino Makondo.

YEDC SEEKS SPECIAL COURT TO TRY ELECTRICITY OFFENCES IN ADAMAWA



Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has sought for a special court try electricity offenders and offences in Adamawa State.


According to company, the special court will adjudicate on electricity offences as provided by section 223(1) and (2) of the Electricity Act 2023.


The Management and Staff of YEDC sought for the special court when they paid a courtesy call on the Adamawa State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman.


The YEDC team, led by Barr. Blessing Urang and Maryam Bukar of the Legal Department, congratulated the Chief Judge who happens to be the first female judge in the state and commended her for the positive reforms in the Adamawa Judiciary.



While on the visit, the team tabled three requests for consideration by the Hon. Chief Judge, aimed at enhancing the prosecution of electricity offenders and offences in the state.



The first request was to designate a special court within the State High Court Headquarters Complex for the trial of electricity offenders and offences, as provided by section 223(1) and (2) of the Electricity Act 2023.



The second request was to impose the maximum prescribed punishments for electricity offences, ranging from fines of N100,000.00 to N1,000,000.00 and, or jail term of 2 to 6 years, as stated in sections 209 to 214 and 220 of the Electricity Act 2023. 



The third request was to ensure that all customer issues submitted for adjudication before the Court comply with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) regulations and guidelines, particularly the NERC Customer Protection Regulation 2023. 


The team said this would help to avoid unnecessary litigation and foster a harmonious relationship between YEDC and its customers.



Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, while commending YEDC for the courtesy, promised that all cases that do not pass through the channel of resolution would be struck out in the courts.



Justice Hafsat said there was no need for a special court to trial electricity offenders, saying any court YEDC cases are brought to would receive expeditious hearing and judgement. She emphasized on the collaboration between YEDC and the judiciary and advised on increased sensitization on the processes of seeking customer redress before taking the issue to court.



Responding, Barrister Maryam Bukar explained that the sensitization and awareness on it have been ongoing but stressed that this would continue using other platforms for wider coverage.

The Appeal Court Yola Division on Thursday, granted leave to the incumbent President Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), Mr. Olugbemi Malomo, to file notice and grounds of appeal.


It is in the light of the foregoing that the leadership as well as members of the CIPPON across the nation and the general public are advised to disregard rumours making round that Mr. Omoniyi Adesoye, has been confirmed as leader of CIPPON.


The rumours making round is nothing but tissue of lies fabricated by mischief makers who are hell bent in destroying the reputable image of CIPPON under the able leadership of Mr. Malomo.


The members of CIPPON are to note that the rumours which are baseless, unfounded and completely false which emanated from the arc-enemies of CIPPON contrary to the ruling of the appellate court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State Capital.

CIPPON: DISREGARD RUMOURS ON DR. ADESOYE CONFIRMATION BY YOLA APPEAL COURT



The Appeal Court Yola Division on Thursday, granted leave to the incumbent President Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), Mr. Olugbemi Malomo, to file notice and grounds of appeal.


It is in the light of the foregoing that the leadership as well as members of the CIPPON across the nation and the general public are advised to disregard rumours making round that Dr. Omoniyi Adesoye, has been confirmed as leader of CIPPON.


The rumours making round is nothing but tissue of lies fabricated by mischief makers who are hell bent in destroying the reputable image of CIPPON under the able leadership of Mr. Malomo.


The members of CIPPON are to note that the rumours which are baseless, unfounded and completely false which emanated from the arc-enemies of CIPPON contrary to the ruling of the appellate court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State Capital.

ADAMAWA: 3 KIDNAPPERS KILLED IN GUN BATTLE WITH POLICE



Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have neutralised 3 suspected kidnappers and rescued 2 victims.


The men of the command have also recovered Pump Action, Single Barrel Gun and locally fabricated revolver gun, handsets, chains, mats, charms among other items from the suspects.


A statement by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the command's operatives attached to Crack Squard in a joint operation with Hunters of Tapital Pulaaku Association recorded the success.


SP Nguroje said that the operation was carried out on the 24th January, 2024, aimed at disconnecting the criminal network at Koma hill, connecting part of Kojoli and Karlahi Districts of Jada and Fufore LGAs respectively.


"The outcome of these successes followed a security strategy designed by the command to checkmate crime bordering kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, unlawful possession of firearms, amongst others.

 

"The suspected kidnappers on the 24th January, 2024, stormed a cattle range of one Alhaji Jibo Karlahi and whisked away Umar Jibo, 18years and Idi Hassan, 13years to their hideout". Nguroje explained. 


He said that the command mobilised the rescue team who went after the kidnappers, saying that on sighting their men, the suspects engaged them in a gun duel as a result 3 of them were neutralized, others escaped with bullet wounds.


He said that the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, while commending the team, urged them to sustain the tempo as a strategy to checkmating crime in the state.


The Police Boss assured the government and good people of Adamawa state of sustained effort to dislodge all criminal hideouts and black spots in the state.

HUDU CONNIVED WITH INEC TO FRUSTRATE CASE- JUDGE



Adamawa State High of Justice presided by Benjamin Manji Lawan, has alleged that there is a connivance between the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, and the Independent National Electorate Commission (INEC) to frustrate case before him.


Justice Benjamin Manji Lawan, noted with dismay the inability of both the prosecution and counsels to the defendant to arraign Barr. Hudu, to stand his trial despite series of adjournments.


The Judge had while presiding over sitting Wednesday, alleged that there is something between the prosecution and the defendant to frustrate case which the court does not know, assuring that the court will get there.


This followed another failure of the prosecution to arraign the suspended REC to face trial on 6-count charge slammed against him by the Independent National Electorate Commission (INEC).


The case which was scheduled for Wednesday, for arraignment of the suspended REC again could not hold due to failure of the defendant to show up and the withdrawal of his counsel, Dr. Suleiman Usman (SAN), from the matter.


Dr. Suleiman, who at the previous sittings promised to produce Hudu, for prosecution, announced his withdrawal from the case through A. U. Bello, who appeared for the new counsel to the defendant, L. O. Oko.


A. U. Bello, told the court that Dr. Suleiman had informed them that his client had debriefed him and hired a new counsel who will now appear and defend him in court.


On his part, F. T. Ekyaan, who announced his appearance for the prosecution, asked for a new date to enable the prosecution expedite effort to arraign the defendant.


Ekyaan, promised to mount pressure on the police to ensure his arraignment at the adjourned date and regretted the delay in arraigning him.


MAN PULLS GUN ON FEMALE STAFF OF FED POLY MUBI, THREATENS TO KILL HER



A man has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly attempting to shoot and kill a female Staff of Federal Polytechnic Mubi identified as Tsinivery John Jajuwal. News Platform 


The defendant, Edward Ibrahim of Digil road in Mubi North LGA Adamawa State, has been remanded by the Chief Magistrate Court I presided by Muhammed Buba.


Chief Magistrate Buba, ordered the remand of the defendant for alleged "house trespass, criminal force, assault and attempt to commit culpable homicide".


The offences, according to the prosecuting police officer, Inspector S.S. Nicholas, contravened sections 334, 240, 241 and 201 of the penal code law.


On his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the multiple allegations levelled against him by the prosecution as contained in the First Information Report(FIR).


After the plea of the defendant, the prosecutor asked the court to remand the defendant at the correctional center to enable him forward case file to DPP for legal advice.


Ibrahim, allegedly armed himself with locally made pistol and trespassed into the residence of his victim at the Adamawa State University (ADSU) Mubi Staff Quaters on the 11th January, 2024.


Storming the residence, the defendant pulled out his pistol, pointed at his victim and threatened to kill her and inflicted injuries on different parts of her body in the process.


The victim raised an alarm and the defendant became afraid and shot in the air and escaped from the scene unknown to him that the victim had identified him.

SIX POLICE JOB APPLICANTS ARRESTED WITH FAKE DOCUMENTS IN ADAMAWA



Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 6 applicants with fake documents during the ongoing police recruitment exercise.


The Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, made this disclosure to newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State Capital on Tuesday, saying that the applicants were arrested during screening exercise.


According to him, the applicants were discovered to have forged their certificates in order to gain employment, saying that the accused are being investigated.


He explained that so far a total number of 16,736, applicants have been screened successfully, and that the exercise will continue till 29th January, 2024, to cover all the 29,848 applicants in the state.

YEDC REFUTES FALSE CLAIMS OF NIGERIEN CONTROL, PROMISES QUALITY SERVICE


 


The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has dismissed rumours that Nigeriens are taking over the company and laying off Nigerian workers. 


The Acting Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Peter Cheman, clarified this in a press briefing on Monday.


Mr. Cheman, explained that the Chief Technical Officer of (YEDC) is a technical partner from Niger who is part of the senior management team and is responsible for improving the network performance. 


He said that the man is not in charge of staff-related matters of any sort but works to make sure the network is constantly improved to serve the customers that are subscribed to the services of the company. 


He added that all the staff positions, both permanent and outsourced, are occupied by Nigerians who follow the rules and regulations of the power sector.


Mr. Cheman urged the customers of the company to disregard the false news circulating on social media and other faceless platforms and to report any issues related to electricity supply through the official channels of the company. 


He also stated that YEDC is one of the only two distribution companies in Nigeria that have fully remitted their payments to the Federal Government, according to the third quarter report of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).


He assured the customers that YEDC is committed to providing quality and reliable power supply and pay for it as when due!

JUST IN: HUSBAND IDENTIFIES WOMAN BEHEADED IN YOLA HOTEL





A woman who was beheaded in a hotel in Yola, Adamawa State by a suspected ritualist has been identified by a man who claimed to be her former husband. News Platform 


The man who identified himself as Auwal Garba, confirmed to the Police Command on Friday, that the deceased known as Bilkisu Alhaji Idi, murdered at Happy Day Guest Inn on the 18th January, 2024, was his wife.


Auwal informed the Spokesman of the Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, that late Bilkisu was his wife whom he had married about 6 years ago.


He explained that they got married about 6 years ago and divorced her between November and December, 2023, saying that the marriage was blessed with a child.


He said that the deceased even called him on the day she was killed that she wanted to talk to her child, but he informed her that the child is with his grant mother.

UPDATE: POLICE ARREST 3, RECOVER DRUG, HANDSET OF THE LADY KILLED IN HOTEL





Adamawa State Command has so far apprehended the staff of the hotel (names withheld) where a young lady was beheaded by a ritualist.


The command has also recovered drug and a handset of the deceased, and vowed to arrest whoever that is behind the gruesome murder of the young lady.


The hotel staff apprehended include; Offer Jacob and Yifarta Caleb Receptionists and Habibu Isah, Security Guard.


A suspected ritualist on the 18th January, 2024, by 9:00pm beheaded the deceased after they had lodged in the affected hotel and made away with the head of his victim.


Confirming the arrest to News Platform on Friday, the Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the command has so far apprehended 3 staff of the hotel and recovered drug and handset of the lady.


According to him, the drug and handset were recovered at the scene of the crime, assuring that the command is doing everything possible to arrest the perpetrator of the heinous crime.

BREAKING: RITUALIST BEHEADS LADY IN YOLA HOTEL AS POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT



Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola,  has strongly condemned the recent brutal killing of a lady in a hotel in Yola North Local Government Area.


Consequently, the CP has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter with a view to apprehending the perpetrator and collaborators of the dastardly act for prosecution.


He however, cautioned Hoteliers to report people of questionable characters to the police for immediate action, and vowed to apprehend the suspect.


The CP in a statement by the the Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje on Friday, warned that the killing of innocent citizens would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise.


According to him, the Command holds the lives of all Citizens sacrosanct, and such unwarranted act would be strictly treated in accordance with extant laws. 


He equally reiterated the commitment of the Command to protecting lives and property while stressing that it is vital to work with other sister security agents in protecting the fundamental rights of all citizens in order to enable them advance their sacred mandate of serving and protecting the citizens better.


The police Boss appealed for calm as the top management of both security agencies are doing everything legally possible to arrest the culprit the situation.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the deceased was beheaded by ritualist who lodged in a hotel with the lady on the 18th January, 2024 and the suspect left with the head of the deceased.


The ritualist told the receptionist that he wanted to go and buy something outside, but could not return back and on checking in his room, the staff found the headless body of the young lady.

416,270 UNEMPLOYED YOUTH SCRAMBLE FOR 30,000 POLICE JOB



A total of 416,270 unemployed Nigeria youth are being screened in the ongoing exercise for the recruitment of 30,000 constables.


According to the Police Service Commission, 136,177 candidates have been screened while 108,768 successfully uploaded, out of 416,270 youth jostling for 30,000 slots.


The candidates are being subjected to physical and credentials screening, a prelude to an aptitude test and other processes including medical examination.


In Adamawa State alone, no fewer than 29, 843, applicants have applied for 2023/2024 as confirmed to News Platform by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.


Meanwhile, unconfirmed sources had it that the number of candidates that will be employed in Adamawa State is between 400 to 500 based the slots given to the state.


Several youth who applied for the job observed with utter dismay, the number of unemployed Nigerian youth who are scrambling for the job opportunities in country.


Some of them urged government to tackle rate of unemployment occasioned by population explosion and attributed insecurity and other social vices to joblessness.

2 TO DIE BY HANGING FOR KILLING A MAN, DUMPING THE CORPSE IN RIVER

The court pesided by Hon. Justice Kaynson S. Lawanson, sentenced Habu Badaru, 27 years old and Auwal Lawan, 26 years old to death for "criminal conspiracy, robbery snd culpable homicide".


Habu of Askira Uba in Borno State and Lawan of Uba Hildi in Adamawa State were condemned after they were tried and found guilty for the offences.


While delivering judgement, Justice Lawanson, said," The sentence of the court upon you is to be hanged by the neck or by lethal injection until you are dead. May the Lord have mercy upon you".


Earlier, the prosecution informed the court that the convicts had conspired and robbed a tricycle operator known as Algoni Muhammed, after drugging him with pentazocine injection at Uba Hildi in Hong LGA.


The prosecution further explained that the convicts later made away with the tricycle in custody and care of the deceased after killing and breaking his neck on the 4th April, 2022.


News Platform had reported that the vendors criminally conspired and administered an overdose of pentazocine injection on Algoni, which led to his death; thereby, carting away his tricycle.


The convicts gruesomely murdered their victim, broke his neck and subsequently dumped his corpse in a river in Uba Hildi, Hong LGA, and stole his tricycle in order to sell it to raise the sum of N80,000 to N100,000 for Badaru to settle debt.


On that fateful day, Habu and Lawan conspired and boarded the deceased's tricycle to the house of the former, and on arrival, they held their victim and injected him with pentazocine before stealing the tricycle.


After killing him and dumping his dead body in the river, Habu rode on the tricycle to Mubi town for the purpose of selling it, but people refused to buy it for lack of particulars and returned back to Mararaba Mubi and packed the tricycle.


The following morning, Habu, went to Mubi town again with the tricycle to sell it, but nobody could buy it and decided to call somebody who deals in tricycle from Uba, to come and buy it.


On his arrival in Mubi, the business man asked Habu, how he got the tricycle since he hawks drugs and not into tricycle business, but Habu could not furnish him with a convincing answer.


The business man secretly called the Chairman of Tricycle Sellers and informed him about the development. The Chairman alerted the police who stormed the area and apprehended the 1st convict.

SUSPECTED ARMORED CABLE THIEVES ARRESTED IN ADAMAWA



A significant breakthrough in the fight against vandalism was recorded for Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) as a group of suspects were apprehended by vigilantes in the community at Sebore Guga along Jada road. 


The arrest comes as a result of the company's ongoing efforts to combat the illegal tampering with power infrastructure that has been a persistent challenge for the distribution of electricity in the region.


The suspects in custody have been identified as Emmanuel Kefas, aged 45, Jonah Linus, aged 39, and Mustapha Aliyu, aged 38. However, one suspect, Biri Modibbo, is currently at large and is being pursued by authorities. YEDC has indicated that the suspects will be charged to court following the completion of a thorough investigation into their activities.


In recent times, YEDC substation vandals have attempted to cut cables at Target junction and Ghana crescent at Bekaji, all in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, where they were chased away before they could cart away major parts of the substation. Similar incidents were recorded in all regions where YEDC operates.


YEDC Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Oladimeji Adebola, said "vandalism of electricity infrastructure not only poses a threat to the reliable supply of electricity but also endangers the lives of individuals involved in these illegal activities. 


YEDC has reiterated its commitment to taking decisive action against anyone involved in such criminal acts to ensure the safety and security of the power supply for the communities it serves".


The successful arrest of these individuals serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts between YEDC, vigilant community members and law enforcement agencies in addressing the issue of vandalism within their operational areas. It also sends a clear message that those engaging in such activities will be held accountable for their actions.


Adebola encouraged the public to support YEDC and law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities related to electricity infrastructure to help prevent further acts of vandalism and ensure a safe, reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply to the region.

ADAMAWA: BARR. MUSA ABDU TURBANED DISTRICT HEAD OF KAREWA



Barr. Musa Abdu was turbaned the new District Head of Karewa in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State alongside three others.They are the District Heads of Yola, Nassarawo Abba and Namtari.


 The ceremony which took place at the Lamido's palace recently, was witnessed by top government functionaries including the representative of the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Awal Tukur the Adamawa State Secretary to the Government " SSG" as well as other dignitaries from all walks of life.


Performing the ceremony, the representative of the Lamido Dr. Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, the Galadima Adamawa, admonished them to be God fearing and eschew all forms of corruption.


He told them that it is a responsibility given to them by God and therefore they should treat everyone in their dormain equally while discharging their responsibilities.


The Royal father further reminded them to be compassionate, stressing that this is one of the qualities of a good leader and urged them to humble themselves and be obedient to the Emirate Council, LGCs and the State Government. 


He also told them not to hesitate to report to the Emirate council and the government on issues bordering on security for prompt action.


The Lamido also stressed the need for them cooperate with their subjects and accept useful advice from them as this will not only enable them to succeed but also ensure peace. 


To the subjects, the Royal father told them to give the new District Heads maximum support and cooperation to enable them succeed. 


He therefore used the opportunity to thank the government the support to ensure success of the event. Barr. Musa Abdu was born in Jimeta in 1949.  


The new District Head was born from the famous family of late Sgt. Abdu Yola of Luggere neighborhood in the heart of Jimeta metropolis of Adamawa State.


 Following his father's itinerant career in the military from 1954 - 1960, Barr. Musa attended primary school in Gboko town in the defunct Benue Province. 


In December 1968- 1972, he joined the Federal Training Center Kaduna where he sat for and successfully passed the West African Examination Council "WAEC" for high school students in 1974.


In 1976, he was admitted into Ahmadu Bello University "ABU" Zaria , from where he bagged his diploma in law and an LLB(Hons) in 1979. He attended the Nigeria Law School Lagos , where he qualified as a barrister at law(BL) and was called to the Nigeria Bar in July 1980 and was enrolled as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.


He served in virtually all the sectors of public life rising through the ranks. He passed through all the administrative levels and stages until he ascended to managerial roles in the public service. He has also held some political appointments. 


He started as an audit clerk with former North Eastern State Government in Maiduguri in 1970.  In 1972, he was employed as a stenographer/secretary in the Vice Chancellor's office at ABU Zaria. In 1980, the barrister served the mandatory NYSC year at the Nigeria Army Headquarters Lagos. Afterwards, he briefly worked with the defunct Gongola State Government as a State counsel.


In 1981, he joined the banking sector as an Assistant Manager ( Legal) with the federal mortgage Bank of Nigeria. Following his superlative performance, he was soon elevated to a substantive managerial position and deployed to Yola as branch manager in 1988.


He voluntarily retired in 1996 after putting in 15 years of meritorious service. He 1997, Barr. Musa Abdu established his law firm known as Musa Abdu & Associates in Abuja.


The firm went into partnership with Chris Cromwell & Company and soon carved a reputation for remarkable professional legal services. 


In recognition of his selfless service to his community, he was appointed senior special Assistant to former Governor Murtala Nyako in 2014.  In 2015, he was appointed to chair the governing council of the College for Legal Studies Yola , a position he held for 4 years. Beside qualifying as a lawyer, he also attended many professional and development courses in management, administration and banking which include; Nigeria Law School Lagos in 1980,  Financial Institutions Training Center Lagos in 1988, Nigeria Institute of Management Lagos in 1992 and Administrative Staff College Lagos in 1994 among many others.

LAKA COMMUNITY HOLDS ANNUAL CULTURAL FESTIVAL IN ADAMAWA

Recently, the Laka community within and outside Adamawa State marked their 2023 annual national cultural festival. The event took place at the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola the Adamawa State capital.


The event was witnessed by prominent sons and daughters of the Laka extraction and top government functionaries including the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was represented by the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Aloysius Baba Doke.


In his paper with the theme "Cultural Festivals And inter Communal Cohesion" , the guest speaker, Dr. Calvin Yusuf Pelene defined cultural festival as a celebration of the tradition of a particular people.

He urging them to embrace the spirit and spread happiness whereever they go, lamenting that the threat to national unity is the greatest challenge facing the nation today.


According to him, Nigeria is a multiethnic nation with diverse cultures and traditions but in spite the seeming challenges of the diversity of culture, there have been many institutions promoting value through cultural festivals.


The Guest Speaker said the Laka nation is now blowing a wake-up trumpet calling on other dialects who have not started a traditional/cultural festival to stand up to the challenge to build a festival that will shape the future of the land people in a cohesion for coexist and sustenance of values. 


According to him, the Laka people must to be commended for coming strong in this context, and that every individual, every family and indeed every society has principles and standards which are appreciated and held in high respect. 


Earlier, in his welcome address, the National President of the Laka Cultural Association, Shu'aibu Usman Leman, explained that the event aimed at building a compassionate and harmonious community by bringing Laka people and peoples of different cultural backgrounds together in celebration through songs, dance, meditation and dialogue. 


He said cultural festivals are catalysts for intercultural dialogue and they can reach out to people from different backgrounds and across generations. 


According to him, through cultural integration, they learn how to be better people in the society and how to live together as brothers and sisters and used the opportunity to commend Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for releasing Adamawa State from the clutches of underdevelopment.

LAKA COMMUNITY HOLDS NATIONAL CULTURAL FESTIVAL

Recently, the Laka community within and outside Adamawa State marked their 2023 annual national cultural festival. The event took place at the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola the Adamawa State capital.


The event was witnessed by prominent sons and daughters of the Laka extraction and top government functionaries including the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was represented by the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Aloysius Baba Doke.


In his paper with the theme "Cultural Festivals And inter Communal Cohesion" , the guest speaker, Dr. Calvin Yusuf Pelene defined cultural festival as a celebration of the tradition of a particular people.

HON. LAORI FULFILLS CAMPAIGN PROMISE, DONATES EXAM HALL TO GDSS GAMADIO

This is a time of joy for students, parents, and the people of the rural development area of ​​Vulpi district in Numan local government in Adamawa state, where the member of reps representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde constituency has built an Examination hall for them.


Speaking at the event, the principal of GDSS Gamadio, Mr. Zacheaus, who expressed his happiness, explained how the students sitting in SSCE travel to the neighboring local governments of Lamurde and Demsa to write the WAEC/NECO exams.


He explained that even if the WAEC/NECO centers are established in 2019, classes will have to be suspended to leave the classrooms to be used for the duration of the examination due to the lack of examination room for students. .


The principal also called on the lawmaker to increase his efforts in the field of fences, science laboratories and computers as well as improving the classrooms of the schools to give students the opportunity to study effectively.


Also speaking at the occasion, the member of the House of Representatives representing Numan/Demsa/Lamurde federal constituency, Kwamoti La'ori, assured the people of the region that he will continue to be courageous to see them enjoy the rule of democracy.


Honorable Kwamoti, is known as a member of parliament who has good intentions to deliver infrastructure services to the community across the 30 Wards of his constituency registration, a task that many speakers at the event stated that "never seen a lawmaker there is nothing like him in the history of his constituency and Adamawa state".


However the member Kwamoti La'ori, did not stop until he expressed his intention to continue to improve the education sector and his determination to bring about change in the life of his people.


The chairmen of Numan and Lamurde local governments, traditional chiefs, leaders of political parties and stakeholders presented a congratulatory speech, where they praised the unusual leadership style of the member and gave him confidence.


The students and all the participants of the event expressed their joy and happiness in speeches, poems, dances and songs of praise to God who gave them Honorable Kwamoti La'ori, as their representative.

ADAMAWA LGC BOSS BAGS "KATUKA GIREI" CHIEFTAINCY TITLE



The Executive Chairman Girei Local Government Council, Adamawa State, Hon. Judah Amisa, has been turbaned as "Katuka Girei" by the Ubandoma Adamawa and District Head of Girei.


Hon. Judah, was on Saturday, turbaned as "Katuka Girei" along side the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) Girei, SP. Abubakar Usman Bafeto as "Wakilin Doka Girei" and Alh. Saidu Hamma as "Mai Jimillah Girei".


The Girei LGC Chairman and 2 other title holders were turbaned by the Ubandoma Adamawa and the District Head of Girei, Alh. Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Mustapha, in recognition of their selfless service to humanity.


According to the Royal Father, the turbaning of Hon. Judah, was in consideration of his patriotism, commitment, selflessness and dedication in rendering service to humanity.


The traditional ruler explained that the honour done to the Chairman was aimed at appreciating him and the DPO for curtailing security challenges bedeveilling Girei and environs.


Girei Traditional Council further commended the Hon. Judah, for his zeal to promote peace and security and timeless sacrifice to public good and described the "Garkuwan Luru" as peace ambassador.


Delivering his speech at the event, the Ubandoma Adamawa and District Head of Girei, Alh. Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Mustapha, congratulated the new title holders and wished them success in their future endeavour.


He tasked them to strive to be good ambassadors of the traditional council and appealed to them to contribute meaningfully for the development of the traditional council, Girei LGA and Adamawa state in general.


Alh. Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Mustapha, urged them to sustain their effort in addressing insecurity in and around Girei, and thanked all the dignitaries for adding colour to the historic event.


Responding on behalf of the new title holders, the Executive Chairman Girei LGC, Hon. Judah Amisa, thanked the royal father for the honour done to them, and expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the council.


Hon. Judah Amisah, assured of their readiness to contribute towards peace and development in the LGC and the Adamawa state in general and wished the dignitaries and all those who graced the event safe journey to their various destinations.
