FINTIRI: THE ARCHITECT OF MODERN ADAMAWA

Written by David Simon Dzalla

The name FINTIRI has not ONLY become a household name in Adamawa State and the nation at large because he was once Speaker of Adamawa State House for years, twice acting governor and presently the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, BUT simply because he is the REAL ARCHITECT OF THE MODERN ADAMAWA STATE.

The name FINTIRI has come to stay with us. FINTIRI is a true, agile, excellent and exemplary leader. He sees the bigger picture before taking any decision. He ensures the peoples' interest is adequately considered and taken care of before any approval is given to any proposal. FINTIRI is a great leader that does not only tell you what to do, but shows you how it is done.

In 2014 when FINTIRI assumed leadership of the State in an acting capacity as Governor for eighty six days, he was able to rehabilitate a number of roads within the state capital and initiated new ones. He paid off all outstanding civil servants' salaries, leave grants and other financial liabilities owned them by the previous government.

These actions earned him the nick name of ATM and FRESH AIR GOVERNOR. Other remarkable projects he recorded included; street and traffic lights within the state capital which made the state capital look like other mega city in the country.

This extra ordinary and excellent performance within eighty six days has become the MODEL for ADAMAWA STATE, where governors after him tried with little success to implement this ultramodern MODEL.

Now that the Architect of the model  is back NOT in an acting capacity this time around, the people of Adamawa State are witnessing tremendous and painstaking application of public funds for the benefit of the citizens of the state.

People have seen time tested responses in almost every sphere of life of the state, unlike when a government assumed the leadership of the state and with all the resources at its disposal such as the Bail-out funds, Paris Club refunds, enormous loans and huge allocation from the federation account had nothing other than panic and self-vested execution of road projects which only served as conduit pipe for the siphoning of public funds to show for the wasted years.

The one year of the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been a huge blessing to the state, from the prudent management of the resources of the state to the advent of myriads of projects for the state.

FINTIRI has kept to his promise of making Adamawa work again. The impact of the one year of purposeful leadership of FINTIRI, the ARCHITECT of MODERN ADAMAWA is felt everywhere; from free education to free feeding of students in boarding schools, to payment of WAEC and NECO fees, payment of student scholarship, rural electrification, infrastructural development, improved security among others.

Judging from the stand point of the terrible situation of this global pandemic, accompanied by the paucity of funds as a result of the drop in the price of oil and the general down turn of the economy, this administration has done well. Charting the course of development for the state is no mean feat.

Little wonder, it is said that experience is the best teacher. Governor Fintiri's several sorjorns as governor in acting capacity has paid off for the state. It behoves the citizens to continue to lend the government their support and give it a chance to succeed in fully delivering the dividends of democracy to the state by the end of this present administration.

NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the action by the said owners of the piece of land to preventing people from burying the corpses in the land which is now converted to farmlands has been posing a very serious challenge to the people of Watu and Madzi District in general.

However, due to high rate of deaths, the people are now finding it difficult to bury their deaths at home, a situation which necessitated public outcry for a virgin land to be converted to cemetery for the teeming electorate in the area.

It is in the light of the above that the member representing Michika constituency at the state House of Assembly, Hon. Joseph Ayuba Kwada took it upon himself and purchased a virgin land for the community which henceforth will be used as cemetery.

He informed them that he bought it to be used by both Christians and Muslims, saying that he decided to buy it for them to address the challenges they encounter whenever someone dies.

According to him, there is no point for somebody to deny other people from burying their relatives in a land used to be a cemetery for ages and now claimed that it belonged to their forefathers.

Earlier, speaking on behalf of Christian community, Pastor Nuhu Abba appreciated the lawmaker for coming to the aid of the community, and prayed God to continue to open doors for him.

BUHARI GRANTS FINANCIAL AUTONOMY TO STATE LEGISLATURE, JUDICIARY

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Friday granted financial autonomy to the legislature and judiciary across the 36 states of the country.

Buhari granted the autonomy via a new executive order signed on Friday.

The president, who broke the news on Twitter, added that his administration would “continue to do everything to strengthen the principles and practice of democratic governance in Nigeria.”

He wrote: “Based on the power vested in me under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended), I, today, signed into law Executive Order No. 10 of 2020 for the implementation of Financial Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary.”

Buhari signed the executive order six months after the conference of speakers of state assemblies in Nigeria urged him to make such a move.

After a meeting with Buhari, Mudashiru Obasa, chairman of the conference of speakers, told reporters that they wanted the implementation of the autonomy “to move faster.”

Although the amended 1999 constitution had incorporated the independence and financial autonomy for state legislature, it is not being implemented in many states.

With the order in effect, it could mean that federal government allocations for the state and judiciary will now be separated from the source instead of being left at the control of governors.

The governors, some of whom have been convicted for fraud over the years, have often been accused of misusing the funds with little or no checks from the state assemblies.
