The United Nations Polac Foundation has honoured Adamawa State based Legal Practitioner, Mathew Moses Tumba (M. M. Tumba esq), with a prestigious award of the "Ambassador for Peace".
M. M. Tumba, one of the erudite legal practitioners in the State was recognised by the UN foundation for bringing dividends of justice to a common man.
The legal practitioner alongside others were honoured at the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights held at the Nigerian National Merit Award House Abuja.
Interestingly, the event attracted cross section of personalities who applauded the foundation for identifying and recognising individuals who have written their names in gold in their choosen fields of endeavour.
The UN Polac foundation was established as an international autonomous organisation in 2001 with the UN and UNESCO following General Assembly Resolution declaring 2001-2010, a decade of peace and nonviolence.
It was mandated to enhance the effectiveness of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) now Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO culture of peace programme particularly the maintenance of peace and security.
Aside the aforestated, the foundation was established to defend the rights and restore dignity to all persons as well as promote collaboration among groups and individuals.
In his keynote address at the 75 Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights held at the Nigerian National Merit Award House Abuja, on the 10th of December, 2022, the Deputy Country President of the foundation, Hon. Amb. Peter Ohagwa, congratulated M. M. Tumba esq, and others for the honour done to them.
Hon. Amb. Ohagwa, told the gathering that the recipients were honoured with the awards for their tremendous contributions to peace and progress in the society, and tasked them not to relent in their humanitarian services.
Likewise, the foundation described M. M. Tumba, as a man of impeccable character and an emblem of selflessness, saying that he has made an indelible mark in bringing the devidends of justice to the downtrodden.
It said that the legal practitioner's dedication in giving voice to the common man or those without help on pro bono basis deservedly earned him not only "Amb. for Peace" award but avalanche of recognitions.
It added that the Legal Practitioner who also holds Masters' Degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution, contributed significantly in promoting peaceful co-existence within his immediate environment and in Adamawa State at large.
