The Inter Party Advisory Council Adamawa State has called on the Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to remove the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari. NEWS PLATFORM.
The Chairman of the council, Hon Bello Babajo, made the call during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) press center in Yola, on Thursday.
He told newsmen that the council found it necessary to call for the removal of the commissioner and bring someone whose intergrity will not be tempered with in the line of his duty.
"Today we feel it is necessary to make this press briefing because of the contradictory statement through the leaked audio going round that the INEC Commissioner Adamawa was heard communicating with some of his staff to help rig the election in favour of one political party". He stated.
According to him, the 1999 Constitution gives INEC powers to conduct election and declare winners, but such statement from the Commissioner has made them to lose confidence that he is neautral and will be fair to all parties.
He said that Adamawa State is a peaceful state which has never experianced any political crisis in the history of political struggles, explaining that the audio will cause lot of damages and bring set back in the political atmosphere in the state.
Hon. Bello Babajo, added that the Constitution has stipulated that anyone who is not satisfied with the outcome of an election should approach court for re-dress.
