EUROPEAN UNION NGOs HAILED FOR BUILDING PEACE IN 5 ADAMAWA LGAs




Stakeholders across Five (5) Local Government Areas in Adamawa State have hailed Three (3) European Union (EU) funded organisations for contributing to building peace and unity in Five (5) LGAs.


The stakeholders noted with satisfaction the role played by the organisations in building peace and unity amongst farmes and herders in Numan, Lamurde, Demsa, Girei and Mayo Belwa LGAs.


The EU funded organisations include; International Organisation of Migration (IOM), Search for Common Ground (SFCG), and Mercy Corps.


Cross section of stakeholders drawn from the LGAs made the commendation at a townhall meeting on Contributing to the Mitigation of Conflict over Natural Resources between farmer and herder communities held in Yola.


The event provided opportunity where participants including members of the academia, representative of EU, traditional and community leaders reviewed the activities of organisations on peace project in the affected LGAs.


The participants however recommended for the extension NGOs stay in Adamawa as well as the establishment of Conflict Resolution and Social Integration Commission and the deployment of transhumance tracker tools to address conflicts.




Speaking at the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by the Commissioner of Ministry of Reconstruction, Reconciliation, Reintegration and Human Services, Elijah Tumba, reiterated government's commitment towards ensuring peace and security.


Governor Fintiri appreciated the organisations for its effort towards enhancing peace in the state, and restated his administration' readiness towards providing favourable atmosphere for peace to thrive.


In her remarks, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, pledged to continue to support peace building project, and urged the stakeholders to consolidate on the peace so far achieved.


Samuela, specifically appreciated Governor Fintiri for his administration's effort in supporting peace building, adding that the COMITAS project has greatly contributed to the objectives of National Livestock Transformation Project (NLTP).


On his part, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture, Office of the Vice President of Nigeria and National Coordinator of National Livestock Transformation Programme, Dr. Andrew Kwasari, advocated for synergy with the European Union towards implementing NLTP.


Dr. Kwasari, stressed the need for the use of modern technology to address farmer herder conflicts, saying that NLTP has designed a model whereby herders and farmers will be mutually integrated for productivity, peace and unity.


Baring his mind, a Lecturer with the Modibbo Adama University (MAU),  Professor Kalep Fili, stressed the need for more research in order to identify the root cause of the problem.


Earlier, in his presentation, the COMITAS Project Manager, Amos Nderi, stated that during the dry season the country often witness transhumance herder migration into Nigeria from countries such as Chad, Niger, Libya in search of water and pasture.

 

Several other stakeholders who spoke during the event applauded the EU organisations and state government respectively for its effort in the sector, and pleaded with EU to consider extending time frame of its organisations in the state.

GRAZERS RAPE 2 CHRISTIAN MINORS WHILE COMING BACK FROM CHURCH




Police in Adamawa have apprehended a 13 year old Gambo Ali and 14 year old Halidu Sani for raping 2 Christian minors while coming back home from a church programme.


The accused persons who were paraded at the police command last week, confessed raping their victims at Sirigira in Guyuk LGA, while returning from church programme.


They confessed to newsmen that they raped the little girls on Saturday 19th February, 2022 in the afternoon.


The suspects were paraded aloing side a 31 year old Yaya Tizshe who also confessed to defiling an 8 year old girl in Jimeta, Yola North LGA, and blamed the devil for crime.

 

DSP Suleiman Yahaha Ngoroje, the police command's spokesman had while parading the accused persons, said that they will be charged to court for prosecution.

18 YR OLD GIRL ABDUCTS CHILD TO SELL...BUY A CAR, HOUSE




An 18 year old girl, Blessing John of Michika Local Government Area, Adamawa state has confessed to abducting a 9 year old Elkanah Samuel.


Blessing, an applicant who hails from unguwan Cashew along Michika General Hospital road, confessed that she abducted Elkanah from Michika with intention of selling him in Mubi to buy a car and an house.


Elkanah was declared missing on the 19th February, 2022 by his parents and all effort to know his whereabout was futile, until on the 21st February, 2022 when the girl who had abducted him was arrested with the boy in Mubi.


The girl and a neighbour to Elkanah was said to have concluded arrangement with a buyer (names withheld) in Mubi that she will be bringing the boy to him in order to buy. But as God will have it, she called the man's line on their arrival in Mubi but it was not reachable.


Thereafter, she boarded a tricycle with the helpless and innocent boy to unguwan Kara in Mubi described to her by the man, but unfortunately she could not locate the house of the man.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that she met a particular person and decided to ask him whether he knows the man. She told the man that she brought the boy to a particular person who promised to her that he will buy.


The man was said to have immediately mobilised people and reported the matter to the police in Mubi. The operatives in Mubi sent signal to Michika divisional police headquarters where the incident was confirmed.


When arrested and brought to Michika divisional headquaters along side the boy, the girl confessed abducting the boy with an intention of selling him. She regretted her action and pleaded with the police to forgive her.


When contacted by NEWS PLATFORM on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident, saying that the girl is currently being investigated after which she will be charged to court.


He extended the commendation of the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, to the good samaritan as well as the DPOs of Mubi and Michika respectively, and urged the public to continue in supporting police to rid the society of bad eggs.

ADHA MEMBER LAUNCHES LEKKI FOUNDATION FOR ORPHANS, PREGNANT WOMEN



Moved by the plight of the less privileged in the society, the Member representing Yola North constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Hamidu Sajo Lekki, has launched a foundation to provide support to the less privileged.


The new foundation"Lekki Adamawa Foundation" has Hon. Hamidu Sajo Lekki, the founder as its Chairman, while Yusuf Sajo, Martin Banga Madanga, Ibrahim Ahmed, Hapsatu Sajo, Leviticus James and Abdullahi Adamu as members.



Likewise, the foundation was launched to create healthy and enlightened society that will foster all round human development, contribute positively towards sustainable human and environmental development through proactive advocacy.


However, those expected to benefit more from the foundation include; less privileged, orphans and vulnerable children, most at risk population, people living with HIV/AIDs among others.


The foundation which is located opposite Specialists Hospital Yola, is incorporated with corporate affairs commission (CAC) on the 18th June, 2021 with the registration number 160045.



In his remarks while unveiling stickers at the event, the speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, applauded the mermber for initiating the foundation aimed at providing help to the less privileged not only in his constituency but the entire state.


Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, appealed to all and sundry to support the founbdation to enable it succeed in in reaching out to less privileged and other vulnerable groups in the society, saying that the entire assembly is happy with the foundation.


Also speaking, the Chief of Staff Government House Yola, Prof Maxwell Gidado, congratulated the member for launching the foundation, saying that the foundation will go along way in meeting the needs of the citizens.


In her remarks, the Guest Speaker, Mrs. Bwallami Abraham Walato, described the foundation as best and unique in the history of Lekki's family and Yola North constituency in general, saying that the founder is equal to the task.


Mrs. Bwallami, told the gathering that the member has leadership qualities which attract people to him and commended him for coming up with the idea to support people in the area of health, education and empowerment programmes.


She saluted his courage for the birth of the foundation and that the legislator has succeded in writing his name in gold, assuring that posterity will remember him for putting smile on the faces of the less privileged in the society.


She spefically appealed to the women and less privileged in the society to support the member to enable him continue to do more for citizens, and appreciated all the dignitaries who graced the event.

 

In his welcome address, the Commissioner Ministry for Local Govermment Affairs, Hon. Yayaji Mijinyawa, said that they have less privileged in their communities; hence, the need to provide necessary support them.


He congratulated the Board of Trustees of the foundation, and asppealed to them to strive towards the success of the foundation so it will benefit the entire citizens.


Also speaking, the Guest Speaker, Mrs. Bwallami A. Walato, described the foundation as unique and best in the history of his family Yola North constituency, saying that tge founder is equal to the task.

HON. NAMDAS GETS SUPPORT, PRAYERS OF 65, 000 LUTHERANS




Clergymen at the ongoing annual convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) in Adamawa state have offered prayers for the member representing Ganye, Toungo, Jada and Mayo Belwa Federal constituency, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas.


Hon. Namdas, a governorship aspirant in Adamawa state, was earlier received at the convention ground in Demsa LGA by the President Lutheran Church Worldwide and Bishop Lutheran Federation of Nigeria, Arch.Bishop Musa Panti Filibus.


Arch Bishop Panti, who introduced the Federal Legislator and Chairman House Committee on Army to the congregation, assured him of their support and prayers and also appreciated him for gracing the annual event.


The Arch Bishop an invitation dated 18th February, 2022, said that the church is hosting over 65, 000 participants at its 97th LCCN annual national convention at its covenant ground in Demsa LGA.


Earlier, while addressing the church, Hon. Namdas, said that the fervent prayers of the clergymen and their continued support and encouragement are some of the key things that have kept this nation as a united entity. 


Hon. Namdas, appealed to the religious leaders not to relent in praying for peaceful coexistence amongst citizens, urging them to also pray for leaders because any bad decision taken by a leader can affect all citizens.


On the security challenges bedeveilling the nation, the gubernatorial aspirant told the mammoth crowd that the challenges have lingered for so long, and that it cannot be solved with guns alone, but with prayers and support of religious leaders.


He informed the church that the army and other security operatives are doing their best, and added that the security of lives and property can only be achieved with their support and prayers.


As governorship aspirant, he hinted that he had initiated laudable programmes that have direct bearing on women and youths and assured that if given the mandate, women and youths' development will take center stage of his government.


"We will not abandon our mothers and the youths. I assure you that if we are given the opportunity, we will not leave them behind; we will ensure that they are well supported and empowered." He added.


He pleaded with the clergymen to encourage people to join polittcs, saying if they do not participate in politics, people will continue to elect leaders that will not bring development in the society.


Responding on behalf of the church, Arch Bishop Panti, thanked Namdas for coming and bringing his words of assurances and encouragement, assuring him of their prayers for the peace of the nation.


He said that he is worried that the young men and women who sacrificed their time and energy to protect the territorial integrity of the nation have become the primary target of terrorists, especially in the northeast. 


He charged the lawmaker to use his good office and ensure that the army is protected and fully equipped to bring an end to the security challenges.


He lamented thus, "It gives me concern when I hear or see stories of how our soldiers who suppose to protect this country being killed by terrorists. Those who left their families to protect us have become the primary target".


"I want to plead with you as the Chairman House Committee on Army to work out things that will bring an end to this lingering security problem. I am sure that with the help of God, this security challenge is not beyond us as a nation."


Earlier, Hon. Namdas inspected the guards of honour mounted by the members of the Nigeria Boys Brigade at the entrance of the convention ground.

TEARS AS "SHILA" BOYS HACK VIGILANTE WITH CUTLASS TO DEATH





Residents of Unguwan Tabo, Abuja road in Yola town, Adamawa state were thrown into mourning when a vigilante, Abdulmalik Sale, was hacked to death.


The sad incident which occured between 9:00 to 10:00 pm on Monday, threw the entire community in confusion as to who must have violently attacked the innocent young man.


The 23 year old Abdulmalik and a metre installer with Ijeyi Business Power Investment Limited was attacked by some men suspected to be "Shila" boys on that fateful night while returning back home from a shop.


A source told NEWS PLATFORM that the deceased was pressing his android phone while trekking, and added that the light of the phone must have attracted the hoodlums, suspected to be "Shila" boys by the residents.


The attackers cut late Abdulmalik with cutlass on the head, beat him sticks on the stomarch, carted away his GSM mobile phone and fled the scene of the crime immediately.


Abdulmalik, a hardworking and promising young man was found lying  unconscious with deep cut on the head as blood was gushing out of the head.


The victim and member of the local vigilante was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre(FMC) Yola, and died the following day while receiving treatment.


When contacted for confirmation, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that nobody reported the incident to the operatives of the command.


He advised the general public to keep police abreast with happenings around their communities for necessary action. 



BILL TO INCREASE RETIREMENT YEARS OF JUDICIARY STAFF PASSES 2ND READING



Legislators at the Adamawa State House of Assembly have taken steps towards legislating on a bill for a law to increase the retirement years of the staff of the judiciary in the state.


The move has yielded a positive result as a bill to that effect titled, "a bill for a law to increase the retirement years of the staff of the judiciary" has successfully scaled through 2nd reading during Wednesday's sitting.


Due to its importance to the staff of the judiciary, the bill which was placed on notice on Monday, was read for the 1st time on Tuesday and 2nd time on Wednesday respectively.


The 1st and 2nd reading of the bill followed a motion by its sponsor and member representing Verre constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak and seconded by Hon. Bathiya Wesley(Hong) and Abdullahi Ahmadu (Lekko Koma) respectively.


Already, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, has referred the bill to the house standing committee on judiciary for legislative inputs and given 3 weeks within which to submit its report for further action.


MEWS PLATFORM gathered that if passed and assented to by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the retirement years of the entire judiciary staff shall be 40 years by service and not 35 as currently obtained and 65 years and not more 60 by age.


According to the merits of the bill, no staff shall be retired compulsorily except he or she is in a breach of the provision of the law or condition of his or her service.


While the bill was initiated by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria(JUSUN) Adamawa state chapter, some officials of the union including the secretary, Wawi E. Wawi, Legal Adviser, Aminu Abdulkadir Maiha and Fxenty Jonathan are working round the clock to ensure its passage.

HOUSEWIFE KIDNAPS SELF, COLLECTS N2.076 MILLION RANSOM FROM ANOTHER LOVER



A heavily pregnant housewife, Jamila Ardo, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly kidnapping herself and collecting the sum of N2.076 million as ramsom from another lover.


Jamila who hails from Wauru Jabbe in Yola South Local Government Area, allegedly abducted herself and collected the sum of N2.076 million as ransom from Mallam Adamu Ahmed of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.


The 25 year old woman, allegedly connived with one Abdulaziz and stage managed her kidnapping where she succeded in collecting ransom from her new found man which she used and bought a new house.


The woman and Mallam Adamu were said to have fell in love after they got connected on the social media (facebook) and started planning on how get married unknown to the later that Jamila is a married woman.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that even though the duo were yet to meet physically, the relationship waxed stronger online; hence, the promises until when the bubble finally burst.


She was said to have connived with Abdulaziz and put a call to Mallam Adamu where they informed him that she has been kidnapped. 


During negotiation, Adamu, was said to have heard Jamila crying and pleading with him on phone to pay the ransom so that she will regain her freedom.


According to a source, it was out of love that Mallam Adamu, went and deposited the money in Zenith bank account number 2218315723 bearing Amina Mohammed.


After sending the money, Adamu was informed by his lover that the kidnappers had released her. But Adamu became suspicious where he filed a complaint letter to the SIB dated 16th November, 2021.


The letter was filed through his counsel and subsequently endorsed by Adamawa State Commissioner of Police. 


In his letter, Mallam Adamu, narrated how Jamila conspired with Abdulaziz, kidnapped herself and collected the aforestated amount of money from him as ransom.


The operatives of the SIB used the details of the bank account which Mallam Adamu used and transfered the money and apprehended Aminu Mohammed, the owner of the account.


In the course of investigation, Amina Mohammed, confessed that it was her friend known as Jamila who requested for her account number so that somebody will send in money for her.


NEWS PLATFORM was informed that there was a time that Jamila's husband even questioned the source of the money of his wife, but his wife responded to him that it was her relatives who had been sending money to her.


When arrested and arraigned before chief magistrate court I in Yola, for the offence of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to sections 60 and 248 of penal code law, Jamila pleaded not guilty.


It was after her plea that the prosecutor, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen, prayed magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, to adjourn the matter to enable the prosecution forward the case file to DPP for legal advice.


On his part, counsel to the defendant, C Crowealth who appeared along side T. K. David, pleaded with the court to allow his client have access to medical facility considering her condition.


C. Crowealth, further asked the court to order the prosecution to avail them with all necessary documents to enable them prepare for their defence.


Ruling, magistrate Digil granted the application and adjourned the matter to the 10th March, 2022, while ordering the remand of the defendant.


ADHA TO ENSURE COMPLETION OF STADIUM...TASKS MGT ON SELECTION OF PLAYERS



Adamawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday, pledged to lobby for the completion of ultra modern stadium so as to develop sporting activitities in the state.


Likewise, the assembly has tasked the Interim Management Committee of the Football Club to put sentiment apart in the selection of players who will play for the club for its growth.


The speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, made the pledge when he received the chairman and the management staff of the football club on courtesy visit.


He said that the completion of the stadium will go along way in developing not only football but other sporting activities as well as enhance internally generated revenue for the management and the state.


Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, commended the new management for the success recorded so far, saying that the assembly is impressed with the current development in the sector.


Also speaking, the members representing Jada Mbulo and Gombi constituencies, Hon. Hammantukur Yetisuri and Hon. Japhet Kefas, pledged to support the management in the interest of the state.


Speaking earlier, the Chairman Interim Management Committee of the club, Alh. Musa Ahmed Gaude, told the speaker that the new management has been doing everything possible to address some of the challenges met on the ground.


Alhaji Gaude, disclosed that the club is made up of Adamawa united, Adamawa queens and the feeder team, saying that currently, a player  has been selected for international competition at Paris in France, while 1 other has been nominated for screening at the national level.


He explained that the club is confronted with the challenges including logistics, water supply at the queens camp and lack of a befitting accommodation.


He said that the teams used to play their home matches in Gombe state, but that on assumption of office, they had renovated Atiku Abubakar Stadium in Fofure LGA and that they are now using it.


He pleaded with the assembly to lobby towards ensuring that the promises made to them by executive are fulfilled in the interest of sporting activities in the state, and promised to continue to strive towards taking the club to the greater height.

I ENGAGED IN ROBBERY TO RAISE MONEY TO PAY SCHOOL FEES-SS II STUDENT



A 23 year old SS II Student of Demsawo Government Secondary School Yola, Adamawa state, Abubakar Mohammed has confessed venturing into armed robbery so as to raise money to pay his school fees.


Abubakar, who was arraigned before Yola Magistrate Court I on one count charge of armed robbery which runs contrary to section 287 of the state penal code law, admitted committing the alleged crime.


The student was alleged to have broke into the house of one Maryam Jamilu at Wauru Jabbe in Yola South LGA in a broad day light brandishing a knife and threatening to kill her.


He allegedly attacked her on the 11th February, 2022 in her palour where he robbed her off her mobile phone spark 6 model valued N68, 000, an Itel phone valued N6000 and the sum of N200 cash.


While Maryam was seeing her visitor off after the said operation, she sighted the young man who had stormed her house and robbed her of her valuables, where she raised an alarm which led to the arrest of the defendant.


After the plea of the defendant was taken, the prosecutor, ASP Francis Audu, urged the court to remand the defendant at a correctional centre to enable them transmit case file to DPP for legal advice considering the nature of the offence.


In his ruling, the presiding judge, Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned the matter as prayed by the prosecutor.


But the defendant had while speaking to NEWS PLATFORM, said that he engaged in armed robbery so as to raise money to pay his 1st and 2nd terms school fees, saying that his father is dead and was left with no alternative than to venture into it.

The late father to Galaxy Correspondent in Adamawa State, Baba Hyginus Giwa, is to be laid to rest Tomorrow, the 22nd February, 2022.

Late Baba Hyginus Giwa died on Tuesday,15th February, 2022 at FMC Yola after a protracted illness.

SHOCKING: LADY SELLS OWN BABY FOR N120, 000, LIES TO FIANCE BABY IS DEAD



A 28 year old lady, Justina Yakubu, has been remanded in prison custody along side a nurse, Esther Ramanus for alleged criminal conspiracy, buying or selling of person for immoral purpose.


Justina was said to have sold her 3 months old child, Jamilu Suleiman, at the sum of N120, 000 and collected the sum of N20, 000, remaining the balance of N100, 000, as alleged by her fiance and father of the child, Suleiman Ibrahim.


She was said to have subsequently lied to her fiance that the child has died when he demanded to know the whereabout of the child.


Both Justina and Esther were arraigned before chief magistrate court I in Yola, Adamawa state on Friday. But while the former pleaded guilty, the later denied committing the alleged offence.


The state police command represented by Seargent Sawe Nicholas,  told the court during arraignment that it was the father of the child, Suleiman, of Mararaban Mubi, who reported the matter to the police on the 2nd February, 2022.


He said that Suleiman had informed the police that his fiancee of the same address disappeared with their 3 months old Jamilu, to unknown destination, and told her that the child had passed away.


According to Seargent Sawe, investigation by the police led to the discovery of the said missing child and another 5 year old boy by name Vincent Wilberforce.


He told the court in First Information Report that the kids were found in the custody of Esther Romanus of Jambutu, Yola North Local Government Area, who conspired with the mother to sell them out.


It was after the defendants entered their plea that Sgt Sawe, informed the court that the 2nd count charge is capital in nature, and that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try it.


Sgt Sawe, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable them complete investigation and duplicate case file and transmit same to DPP for legal advice.


On her part, counsel to Esther, the 2nd defendant, Nfoniso, told magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, that the offences of which her client and by extension the 1st defendant were arraigned are not capital in nature.


Nfoniso, said that the penalty upon conviction is maximum of 10 years, and that that makes it bailable offence because it is not punishable with death or life imprisonment.


She argued that the court has the jurisdiction to entertain the matter and humbly applied for the bail of her client on most liberal terms, assuring that her client will neither jump bail nor jeopardise police investigation.


It was after their submissions that the court adjourned the case to 25th February, 2022 for ruling on the bail application and the jurisdiction of the court. 


In a chat with NEWS PLATFORM, the father of the child, Suleiman Ibrahim, said that he fell in love with Justina Yakubu, and that she even promised to marry him, saying that she later took in for him and gave birth to the baby boy.


He explained that after her delivery, he told her that he wanted to name his child as provided by Islamic injunction for every child and also reminded her about their proposed marriage, but that her fiancee responded to him that the baby is died.

5 SENTENCED 8-16 YRS EACH FOR STEALING 66 A/Cs OF YOLA INTL HOTEL



Yola Chief Magistrate Court I has convicted and sentenced a security guard, Dauda Charles along side 4 others to 8, 14 and 16 years in prison each for the theft of 66 air conditioners.


The air conditioners valued N15.180million belong to Yola international hotel owned by Adamawa state government which were carted away by the convicts.


Likewise, the court has discharged and acquitted a woman, Hadiza Usman and 2 others after they were tried along side the convicts and found to have not committed the offences for which they were charged.


But for Dauda Charles, the security guard of the hotel, chief magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, sentenced him to 7 years in prison for the offence of theft or pay an alternative fine of 100, 000, and also sentenced him to 1 year in prison without option of fine for criminal conspiracy.


Another convict, Husseini Mohammed, was jailed 1 year without option of fine for conspiracy and 15 years behind bars with N200, 000, option of fine for theft under section 279 of penal code law.


Mohammed Mu'azu, one of the convict was also slammed 14 years prison term for the offence of receiving stolen property or pay N100, 000 option of fine.


On his part, Husseini Adamu, bagged 14 years jail term or alternatively pay the sum of N200, for the offence of abatement under section 49 of penal code law, while Bashiru Suleiman, was jailed 14 years or pay N200, 000 fine.


Also, the court has ordered Dauda Charles, Husseini Mohammed and Bashiru Suleimam, 1st, 2nd and 7th convicts to pay the whooping sum of N13.520 million value of the 60 air conditioners belonging Yola international hotel.


For Hadiza Usman, the court has discharged and acquitted her on grounds that the 2 air conditioners found in her possession and recovered were only given to her by Bashiru Suleiman, to keep without the knowledge of being carted away.


Equally, the court has discharged and acquitted Danlami Hamidu, a commercial tricycle operator, based on the evidence of the prosecution witness that he was only contracted to convey some of the items unknown to him that they were stolen.


The court has also discharged and acquitted Alhaji Yahaya Aliyu, but ordered him to return 2 sets of air conditioners he bought from Husseini Mohammed, or pay N460, 000 its value.


It was established during trial that the 2nd convict, Husseini, sold 2 sets of air conditioners to Alhaji Yahaya, where he issued him with receipts after Yahaya insisted that he must see the receipts of the items before buying it. 


The receipts were tendered and admitted in evidence in court; hence, the discharge and acquittal of Alhaji Yahaya Aliyu.


It was the state police command represented by Inspector Zakka Musa, who arraigned the 5 convicts and 3 others discharged following a complaint by Solomon Garwva, a staff of the ministry of culture and tourism attached to the hotel on the 12th December, 2021.


Solomon, reported that the hotel security guard, Dauda Charles, conspired with Husseini Mohammed and stole 66 air conditioners belonging to hotel and sold same to Alhaji Yahaya, Mohammed Mu'azu and several others now at large.


They were all arrested and arraigned on the 31st January, 2022 for alleged criminal conspiracy, theft by servant, abatement and receiving of stolen property contrary to sections 60, 280 and 47 of penal code law.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that it all began last year when Husseini Mohammed who met Charles and saw the air conditioners at the hotel, advised him to sell some of the items to enable him raise money and prepare for his christmas.


Initially, Dauda who proved to be a reliable security personnel was said to have refused to buy the idea, and that he was later offered the sum of N18, 500 but also refused to collect it.


It was gathered that the security guard who appeared to be morally strong enough not to be persuaded to do something wrong, could not withstand the temptation when he was offered the sum of N205, 000, so as to allow access to the items.


The security guard who was shocked to have gotten such amount of money, did not only allow easy access to the store but opened the entire doors to the thieves who had their field day and stole the items at will up to 66 items.

YOLA MEN PLEAD GUILTY TO BEATING ADAMU TO DEATH



Two men accused of killing a 28 year old, Adamu Ahmadu, on Friday, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.


Hamidu Umar, 55, and Sholey Manas, 32, who hail from Damare ward,  Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa state and 2 others now at large beat Adamu to death after he was accused of phone theft.


The deceased and son of security officer of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corperation (ABC) Yola, was accused by Hamidu, of stealing his Gionee phone valued N60, 000 on the 22nd January, 2022. 


Hamidu, criminally conspired with 3 others and violently beat Adamu with sticks, planks as well as hit him with pieces of cement blocks on his head as a result of which he sustained serious injuries leading to his death.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the phone which was alleged to have been stolen was later found in the sofa in the palour of Hamidu, after beating up the deceased.


When arraigned before chief magistrate court I presided by magistrate Abdullahi Muhammed Digil, by the state police command represented by ASP Francis Audu, both defendants admitted killing Adamu. 


Addressing the court after the defendants' guilt plea, ASP Francis, said that even though the defendants had admitted killing their victim, their offence is capital in nature, and that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain it.


Therefore, he urged the judge to adjourn the case to enable the prosecution duplicate case file and transmit same to DPP for legal advice.


Magistrate Digil, granted the application as prayed and adjourned the case to the 2nd March, 2022, while ordering the remand of the defendants in prison custody till then.

BUSINESS MAN PUTS MANHOOD INTO THE MOUTHS OF 2 BOYS, RELEASES SPERM



A Yola based business man, Abubakar Barkindo, has admitted inserting his sexual organ and releasing sperm into the mouths of 8 and 9 years old boys respectively.


The accused who earlier denied perpetuating the alleged un-natural offence upon his arraignment, later changed his plea and admitted committing the act contrary to section 263 of penal code law.


Already, the accused person has been remanded in prison custody for offence as ordered by the Chief Magistrate court I sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Wednesday.


The defendant who sells engine oil in a particular filling station in Yola, Adamawa state capital, narrated that he recently discovered that his penis was not more functional and even complained to his mother about it.


He said he collected some herbs with a view to treating it, and later decided to taste it so as to know whether it has resumed duty by asking the boys to play with it.


Earlier, the prosecutor, Seargent Sawe Nicholas, in First Information Report filed in court, said that the defendant committed the offence on the 8th February, 2022.


Seargent Sawe, told Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, that it was the father of the boys(names withheld) of the 50 housing unit Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area who reported the matter to the police.


According to him, the defendant lured the boys into his room where he removed his clothes and inserted his sexual organ into each of their mouths wherein he released some substance believed to be his sperm and was intercepted in the process.


The court has adjourned the matter to the 7th March, 2022, and ordered the police to complete investigation and forward the case file to DPP for legal advice as earlier prayed by Seargent Sawe Nicholas.

HOSPITAL STAFF DECEIVES EX-SENATOR AHMED BARATA...SWINDLES N15.5 MILLION



Staff of General Hospital Uba in Borno state, Abusufiyan Musa, has been remanded in Yola prison custody for swindling the sum of N15.5 belonging to former Senator Adamawa southern senatorial zone, Ahmed Hassan Barata.


Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Muhammed Digil, of Yola Chief Magistrate court ordered the remand of Abusufiyan, when he was arraigned before him by Adamawa state police command.


The 38 year old defendant was alleged to have fraudulently induced senator Barata, to invest N17.6 million in business of drugs supplies and sales in October, 2021, but ended up diverting N15.5 million out of the said sum.


Earlier, Senator Barata, in a direct criminal complaint lodged before criminal investigation department of Adamawa police command on the 23rd November, 2021, alleged that he had transfered the money to the accused person as agreed.


He informed police that he transfered the said money into Access bank account number 0010832154 bearing Abusufiyan Musa and his mother's Eco bank account 040107103 named Hamsatu Lawan Hammadina.


He alleged that the defendant did not wholly invest the money into the specified business but diverted the sum of N15.5 million to his own personal use.


When arraigned in court on Tuesday, the defendant pleaded not guilty.


Thereafter, the prosecutor, Inspector Iliya Akawu, urged the court to remand Abusufiyan in prison and adjourn the matter to enable them complete investigation since he had denied committing the offence.


While ruling on Inspector Iliya's application, Magistrate Digil, said that the case has been accepted for prosecution and however ordered the police to go ahead with their investigation and make their case ready for hearing.


The judge remanded the defendant as prayed and subsequently adjourned the matter to the 28th February, 2022 for commencement of hearing.

4 MEN BEAT SON OF ABC STAFF TO DEATH OVER MISSING HANDSET





A 55 year old man, Hamidu Umar, of Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa state and 3 others have been accused of beating up a 28 year old, Adamu Ahmadu, to death.


Late Adamu, the son of security guard of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corperation(ABC), Yola was earlier accused by Hamidu, son of the deposed Ward Head of Damare, Yola South LGA of stealing his mobile phone on the 22nd January, 2022.


The deceased flatly denied stealing the handset to the extend of collecting his master's phone number where he called the line in the phone for about 15 times without anybody picking it.


Hamidu, along side Faisal and Nahau took the father of 1 to an uncompleted building near polo ground by 5:30 pm on that fateful day and violently beat him up with wood and broken blocks.


It was as a result of the beating that the victim had 2 fractures on his left hand, broken bone on the right hand and serious injuries on his head as well as other parts of his body.


While beating their victim, one other person simply identified as Sholle Manas, met other accused persons at the scene of the crime, and was there and then instructed by Hamidu to join them in beating his thief.


Hamidu, ordered other accused persons to even kill Adamu, his boy if he will not produce the said handset.


It was a young lady who rushed and alarted the new Ward Head of Damare, Sahabo Umar, who went and rescued the man from being killed on the spot and subsequently reported the matter at the Wuro Hausa police station.


But upon his return back home after beating up the deceased for allegedly carting away his handset, Hamidu found the said handset alleged to have been stolen on the sofa in his palour.


It was learnt that the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Yola for medical attention but died on Sunday the 13th February, 2022 at their residence and buried Yestarday.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that 2 other accused persons including Faisal and Nahau are currently at large, and that the police are doing everything possible to apprehend them for prosecution.


Earlier, when arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court Yola town, on the 2nd February, 2022, for criminal conspiracy and causing grievious hurt, the 1st defendant, Hamidu Umar, pleaded not guilty, while the 2nd defendant, Sholle Manas, pleaded guilty.


Thereafter, the matter was adjourned to Tuesday the 15th February,  2022, for hearing in the case of 1st defendant and summary trial of the 2 defendant who had already pleaded guilty to the offences.


Likewise, on the the day of arraignment, the 2nd defendant had confessed that he met the 1st defendant and 2 others beating the deceased, and that he was instructed by the 1st defendant to join them in beating their victim.


When the defendants appeared in court today as adjourned, the prosecutor, Inspector Abubakar Isa, applied for the withrawal of the First Information Report (FIR) earlier tendered in court.


Inspector Isa, told the court that it became necessary for the prosecution to withdraw the FIR because the defendant is dead.


He explained that the withdrawal of the FIR is to enable them transfer the case to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the state police command for further investigation and change of charges.


He informed the court that after investigation by the department, the accused persons will be properly arraigned before court of competent jurisdiction for trial.


Both defendants could not object to the application filed by the prosecution to withdraw the FIR when asked by the judge, Chief Magistrate Dimas Elishama Gwamu.


Ruling, Chief Magistrate Dimas, granted the application filed by the prosecutor, to withdraw the FIR earlier presented as a result of the death of the primary complainant and consequently struck out the case.

APC, PDP, UNION LEADERS LAUD MACKONDO, VOW TO RETURN HIM IN 2023




Chieftains of the opposition All Progressives Congress(APC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Numan Local Government Area, have commended Deputy Speaker Adamawa state House of Assembly, Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo.


Likewise, the representatives of the unions in the LGA have noted with satisfaction the achievements recorded by the legislator at the hallowed chamber, and promised to work towards his re-election come 2023.


The chieftains of the political parties and the representatives of the unions made the commendation as well as promise during a townhall meeting organised by the Deputy Speaker and held in Numan on Thursday. 


The townhall meeting attracted both PDP and APC supporters,  representatives of unions including waterways transport, capenters' association, fashion designers, keke NAPEP riders, Igbo cultural association, Muslim Council of Nigeria, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and host of others from 10 wards of Numan LGA.




The meeting provided opportunity for the electorate who made observations, asked questions, suggestions, commendation and promise to rally round him towards his success come 2023, saying that the Hon. Mackondo, has done what he was elected to do.


During the event, the developmental projects executed by the legislator across the political wards including Vulpi, Gamadiyo, Kodomti, Imbru, Bare, Bolki, Sabon Pegi, Numan I, II and III, were showcased.


Some of the people oriented projects recorded by the member include; sinking of industrial borehole at Zangun, Ngbalang, Shaforon, Green village, Kwahuba, while hand pump borehole at Gon, Gwalti, Wodikakai, Kwakombe, Nzuruwe.


The lawmaker also disbursed the sum of N20, 000 as financial support to 200 women and also distributed 11 motorcycles, 50 trays with N5, 000, to small scale fish traders, 200 sprayers, 200 milling machines, 200 water pumps, 200 cartons of herbicide, 3 mini trucks, and carried out transformer installation and wiring at Zangun, Gweda Mallam, Water treatment plant.


He also embarked on the constructed 10 blocks of classrooms with offices at Dowaya primary school, Imbru, Shaforon, Sabon Pegi Bare, VTC JSS, Nzumosu, Kikon, Adult Education Numan, Bonangha, Gyemun, Bare GJSS, and rehabilitated 10 others across communities in Numan.


Hon. Mackondo, who lobbied for the construction/rehabilitation of township roads, equally donated sienna bus to the leadership of the PDP, tricycles to youths and sewing machines and several other empowerment items.


Speaking at the townhall meeting, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo, said that the meeting was organised primarily to showcase his developmental projects and appreciate them for the mandate given to him.


Hon. Mackondo, said that he wouldn't have executed the projects without the support of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and promised to continue to do his best in providing good representation.


He told the gathering that leadership is not an easy task, but that he has done his best as lawmaker, and pleaded with them to forgive him where he failed to meet up to their expectations.


He appealed to them to support the present administration so as to enable it provide more dividends of democaracy, saying he is fulfilled now that they have been addressed insecurity.


While commenting on some of the observations made by the participants, Hon. Mackondo, promised to improve on areas that need improvement, reach out to some of the communities with developmental projects.


In their separate remarks, the commissioner ministry of entrepreneurship development, Prof Dishi Khobe, applauded the member for organising the interactive meeting, and pledged to continue to support him.


Also speaking, the Chairman Transition Committee of Numan LGC, Hon. Pwagwadi Omeno, gave kudos to the member and pledged to strive towards his victory.


Baring his mind, a chieftain of APC Numan 2 ward, Hon. Faredan Sunodo, applauded the member, saying that the opposition party has seen what the member has been able to do, and pledged to continue to support him.


In his welcome address, the Chairman PDP Numan LGA, Hon. Hassan Pwadadi, thanked those who took their time and graced the event, and urged them to brace up for the forthcoming LG polls.


Several other participants including the representatives of unions and wards who spoke at the event promised to support the re-election of the member.

MAN WHO INSULTED LAMIDO ADAMAWA GRANTED BAIL 2 DAYS AFTER



After spending 2 days in Yola prison custody for insulting Lamido Adamawa, a 43 year old man, Yusuf Babayola (Turakin Chinco) was on Wednesday, admitted to bail.


Turakin Chinco and supporter of erstwhile Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was remanded in prison custody for insulting Lamido Adamawa, HRH. Alh. Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa.


The chief magistrate court I sitting in Yola, Adamawa state admitted the embattled Atiku's supporter to bail in its ruling on a bail application filed by his counsel, Ruth Gbah, on Manday.


While ruling on the application, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, said that he had carefully considered the application and the reasons advanced by counsel to the defenadant.


He held that though the offences are bailable but not ordinarily bailable, and that the court held a view of giving the defendant benefit of doubt in the interest of justice and fair hearing even though he pleaded.


According to him, the court had exercised its discretion regarding the bail in favour of the defendant and admitted him to bail as prayed.


Magistrate Digil, stated that the defendant must produce 2 reasonable and reliable sureties, and that one of them must be a ward head within Jimeta with landed property within the court's jurisdiction.


He said that each of the sureties must have national identity card with a passport, and that the photocopy of same must be tendered with court's registry.


He added that the suteties must undertake to be producing the defendant before the court on any adjourned date throughout the trial, and that upon failure of the defendant to appear in court to face trial, each surety will pay the sum of N200, 000 to the government as bail bond.


The judge ruled that in the absence of the following conditions, the defendant be further remanded in prison custody until the next adjourned date, and however adjourned the matter to the 23rd February, 2022.


In their separate reactions after the ruling, counsel to the defendant, Ruth Gbah and the prosecutor, Inspector Iliya Akawu who was represented by ASP Francis Audu, appreciated the court for the ruling.

43 YR OLD MAN LANDS IN PRISON FOR INSULTING LAMIDO ADAMAWA



A 43 year old business man, Yusuf Babayola popularly known as Turaki, has been remanded in prison custody for insulting Lamido Adamawa, HRH. Alh. Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa.


The chief magistrate court I in Yola, Adamawa state ordered the remand of Turaki, in prison custody after he had pleaded guilty to the alleged offences on Monday.


The defendant was arraigned before the court on 3 count charge of cyber stalking, use of insulting or abusive language and inciting public disturbance.


NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the offences contravened section 24 of cyber crime prohibition and prevention act 2015 and sections 385 and 80 of penal code law of the state.


Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Iliya Akawu, told the court that the Commissioner of Police had on the 6th February, 2022 received a letter from Adamawa Emirate Council dated 5th February, 2022.


Inspector Iliya, said that the letter revealed that sometimes in Febuary, 2022, Yusuf Babayola of sarkin wuta street shinco in Jimeta insulted the royal father while communicating on cell phone with one Bako D.D.K. of Yola south LGA.


According to him, the defendant used abusive, insultive, deregatory and heavy vulgar language such as " duru uwarka" "buro ubanka",  "Lamido Barkindo ma ya ci duru uwar shi" among others.


He informed the court that the accused used such language against the person and integrity of Lamido Adamawa which is capable of inciting civil unrest and disturbance of public peace and order within and among his subjects.


He added that the insults had gone viral on social media thereby causing palpable tension in and around the state.


After the case was mentioned, counsel to the defendant, Ruth Gbah, applied for the bail of her client, saying that the offences for which the defendant is standing trial are bailable in nature.


Ruth, assured the court that if the defendant is released on bail, he will not jump bail or do anything that will undermine justice system, and urged it to use its discretion in favour of her client.


On his part, the prosecutor, Inspector Iliya Akawu, objected to the application for bail filed by counsel to the defendant, saying that there is tension in the state considering the personality involved, and prayed the court to refuse it.


The court presided by Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Muhammed Digil, adjourned the matter to the 8th February, 2022 for ruling on the bail application.

468 INMATES DISCHARGED FROM 13 ADAMAWA PRISONS IN 9 DAYS



A total number of 468 inmates across 13 Custodial Centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service were discharged by Adamawa state Jail Delivery Committee.


The committee headed by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, discharged 468 inmates across the centres in 9 days.


Hon. Nathan set free 119 at Jimeta correctional centre, 90 at Yola town, 32 at Jada, 57 at Numan, 5 at Shelleng, 23 at Kojoli, 6 at Maiha, 22 at Dumne, 14 at Hong, 34 at Ganye, 20 at Mayo Belwa and 21 at Guyuk.


During the exercise, several inmates awaiting trial were convicted, while some of the convicts serving jail term had their cases reviewed upward and down ward.  


The CJ admolished the released Inmates to be of good conduct, imbibe good virtues and abide by the sociatal norms, now that the committee has shown them mercy.

THOUSANDS PAY SOLIDARITY AS NAMDAS LAUNCHES ZONAL CAMPAIGN OFFICE IN NUMAN



Security operatives had a hectic day controlling the mamooth supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas today in Numan.


Thousands of enthusiastic supporters, majorly youths and women thronged the venue of the event singing solidarity songs and waited patiently for the gubernatorial hopeful to launch his zonal campaign office in Adamawa southern senatorial zone located in the heart of Numan.


Security operatives have to divert traffic along the major road leading to the Numan local government secretariat in a move to control crowd as the event lasted.



While appreciating the people of Numan federation for the support and show of solidarity shortly after launching the office, Namdas said, he was overwhelmed by the olive branch extended to him.


He noted that he was not surprised by the tremendous support as Numan and Ganye people have a shared destiny and solidarity spanning centuries, noting that the gesture further indicated his acceptability in the area.


While appealing on his supporters to engage in healthy politicking devoid of mudslinging and thuggery, Namdas enjoined other politicians to emulate him by conducting issue based campaign ahead of 2023 general election.


"As you have seen, we have carried out an enlightened campaign devoid of malice and mudslinging as such we did not cast aspersions on anybody.


"I urge other politicians to also embrace issue based campaign so as to allow people to choose the best candidate amongst us," he said.




Commenting on the rising trajectory and increasing acceptability of his aspiration, Namdas said the development is a manifestation of the awareness of the people as democracy is consolidated.


Namdas was upbeat that with the exponential rise in his support base, he was sure of clinching the party's ticket in the build up to the 2023 election. 


Also commenting, the Director General of Namdas campaign, Abdurrahman Shuaibu urged the people of Adamawa to ensure the enthronement of good governance by voting Namdas during the party primaries and at the general election.


He noted that Namdas has the integrity, competence, energy, will and determination to change the fortunes of the state if given the mandate.


An elder and chieftain of the party in the state, Ahmed Wangubi Fons also commended the people of Numan federation for the overwhelming solidarity, noting that he was not surprise because Numan is a home to Chamba people.


He assured them that if Namdas is elected, he will create job opportunities for the teeming youths, women and people living with disability and other vulnerable groups in the state so as to curtail social insecurity and youth restiveness.


Fons who vouched for the integrity and competence of Namdas noted that the gubernatorial hopeful will never fritter away the goodwill of the people if elected.


Various speakers and chieftains of APC including Halima Hayatu, Ibrahim Tahir, Dikashima Riko told the cheering crowd that a vote for Namdas is a vote for salvation, peace and overall progress of the state, adding that they will not regret giving their mandate to Namdas.


While harping for issue based campaign, the Hama Bachama, Homun Daniel Shaga Ismail urged politicians to counsel their supporters on the need for peaceful politicking.


He noted that most of the conflict during political campaign period is caused by intolerance by overzealous supporters calling on the aspirants to do everything within their powers to tame such supporters ahead of the 2023 general election.
