A heavily pregnant housewife, Jamila Ardo, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly kidnapping herself and collecting the sum of N2.076 million as ramsom from another lover.
Jamila who hails from Wauru Jabbe in Yola South Local Government Area, allegedly abducted herself and collected the sum of N2.076 million as ransom from Mallam Adamu Ahmed of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
The 25 year old woman, allegedly connived with one Abdulaziz and stage managed her kidnapping where she succeded in collecting ransom from her new found man which she used and bought a new house.
The woman and Mallam Adamu were said to have fell in love after they got connected on the social media (facebook) and started planning on how get married unknown to the later that Jamila is a married woman.
NEWS PLATFORM learnt that even though the duo were yet to meet physically, the relationship waxed stronger online; hence, the promises until when the bubble finally burst.
She was said to have connived with Abdulaziz and put a call to Mallam Adamu where they informed him that she has been kidnapped.
During negotiation, Adamu, was said to have heard Jamila crying and pleading with him on phone to pay the ransom so that she will regain her freedom.
According to a source, it was out of love that Mallam Adamu, went and deposited the money in Zenith bank account number 2218315723 bearing Amina Mohammed.
After sending the money, Adamu was informed by his lover that the kidnappers had released her. But Adamu became suspicious where he filed a complaint letter to the SIB dated 16th November, 2021.
The letter was filed through his counsel and subsequently endorsed by Adamawa State Commissioner of Police.
In his letter, Mallam Adamu, narrated how Jamila conspired with Abdulaziz, kidnapped herself and collected the aforestated amount of money from him as ransom.
The operatives of the SIB used the details of the bank account which Mallam Adamu used and transfered the money and apprehended Aminu Mohammed, the owner of the account.
In the course of investigation, Amina Mohammed, confessed that it was her friend known as Jamila who requested for her account number so that somebody will send in money for her.
NEWS PLATFORM was informed that there was a time that Jamila's husband even questioned the source of the money of his wife, but his wife responded to him that it was her relatives who had been sending money to her.
When arrested and arraigned before chief magistrate court I in Yola, for the offence of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to sections 60 and 248 of penal code law, Jamila pleaded not guilty.
It was after her plea that the prosecutor, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen, prayed magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, to adjourn the matter to enable the prosecution forward the case file to DPP for legal advice.
On his part, counsel to the defendant, C Crowealth who appeared along side T. K. David, pleaded with the court to allow his client have access to medical facility considering her condition.
C. Crowealth, further asked the court to order the prosecution to avail them with all necessary documents to enable them prepare for their defence.
Ruling, magistrate Digil granted the application and adjourned the matter to the 10th March, 2022, while ordering the remand of the defendant.
