ADAMAWA CJ SACKS COURT JUDGE OVER WRONG CONVICTION

The presiding judge of Lunguda Area Court sitting in Guyuk Local Government, Adamawa state, Hon. Jerrison Fawe, has been removed from office.

Hon. Fawe, has been shown way out for convicting and sentencing a man to 3 years in prison without fair hearing and without option of fine.

The Adamawa state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, removed the area court judge due to gross incompetence, and ordered him to report at the headquarters with immediate effect.

Hon. Justice Nathan and Chairman Jail Delivery committee removed the judge when his committee stormed Guyuk correctional centre in continuation of prison decongestion on Thursday.

The embattled judge, was said to have convicted the man and sentenced him to 3 years in prison when the convict was arraigned before his Honourable court over the allegation of exchanging words with his mother.

The convict, who was among the inmates serving their separate jail terms at the correctional centre, was arrested and arraigned before the court by the police over misunderstanding between him and his mother as reported to the police by his elder brother.

When he was brought before court by the police who could not tender any statement, the convict was there and then sentenced to 3 years in prison without hearing a word from him as to what transpired between him and his mother.

It was gathered that when the police finished narrating what the elder brother of the convict had told them, the judge convicted the defendant and sentenced him to 3 years in prison without option of fine.

It was learnt that the convict, who was once a staff of union bank, lost his job as result of which he decided to return back to Guyuk. While in Guyuk, he had a fracture in an accident and was abandoned by those around him and became frustrasted.

The convict along side 4 other inmates were discharged by the committee out of 21 inmates with a warning to be of good behaviour in the society.
