SHOCKING: LADY SELLS OWN BABY FOR N120, 000, LIES TO FIANCE BABY IS DEAD

A 28 year old lady, Justina Yakubu, has been remanded in prison custody along side a nurse, Esther Ramanus for alleged criminal conspiracy, buying or selling of person for immoral purpose.

Justina was said to have sold her 3 months old child, Jamilu Suleiman, at the sum of N120, 000 and collected the sum of N20, 000, remaining the balance of N100, 000, as alleged by her fiance and father of the child, Suleiman Ibrahim.

She was said to have subsequently lied to her fiance that the child has died when he demanded to know the whereabout of the child.

Both Justina and Esther were arraigned before chief magistrate court I in Yola, Adamawa state on Friday. But while the former pleaded guilty, the later denied committing the alleged offence.

The state police command represented by Seargent Sawe Nicholas,  told the court during arraignment that it was the father of the child, Suleiman, of Mararaban Mubi, who reported the matter to the police on the 2nd February, 2022.

He said that Suleiman had informed the police that his fiancee of the same address disappeared with their 3 months old Jamilu, to unknown destination, and told her that the child had passed away.

According to Seargent Sawe, investigation by the police led to the discovery of the said missing child and another 5 year old boy by name Vincent Wilberforce.

He told the court in First Information Report that the kids were found in the custody of Esther Romanus of Jambutu, Yola North Local Government Area, who conspired with the mother to sell them out.

It was after the defendants entered their plea that Sgt Sawe, informed the court that the 2nd count charge is capital in nature, and that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try it.

Sgt Sawe, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable them complete investigation and duplicate case file and transmit same to DPP for legal advice.

On her part, counsel to Esther, the 2nd defendant, Nfoniso, told magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, that the offences of which her client and by extension the 1st defendant were arraigned are not capital in nature.

Nfoniso, said that the penalty upon conviction is maximum of 10 years, and that that makes it bailable offence because it is not punishable with death or life imprisonment.

She argued that the court has the jurisdiction to entertain the matter and humbly applied for the bail of her client on most liberal terms, assuring that her client will neither jump bail nor jeopardise police investigation.

It was after their submissions that the court adjourned the case to 25th February, 2022 for ruling on the bail application and the jurisdiction of the court.

In a chat with NEWS PLATFORM, the father of the child, Suleiman Ibrahim, said that he fell in love with Justina Yakubu, and that she even promised to marry him, saying that she later took in for him and gave birth to the baby boy.

He explained that after her delivery, he told her that he wanted to name his child as provided by Islamic injunction for every child and also reminded her about their proposed marriage, but that her fiancee responded to him that the baby is died.
