EU-RoLAC IDEA Staff Barr Hapsatu Bags UN Peace Award
In recognition of her exceptional commitment to access to justice for women, children, survivors of Gender Based Violence and other vulnerable groups, peace building and conflict resolution through multilateral cooperation, the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), has presented prestigious award of "Mother Teresa Hearth of Gold" to Adamawa based legal practitioner, Hapsatu H. Abdullahi who is the Adamawa State Coordinator of the EU Funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme been implemented by International IDEA.
The award was conferred on her during the 2026 International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace held at Oriental Hotel Victoria Island, Lagos State Nigeria recently.
Abdullahi was awarded UN-POLAC in recognition of her “outstanding contributions to justice, peace and women’s empowerment in Northeast Nigeria and beyond.
As part of her role and commitment as the Coordinator RoLAC, she has championed the domestication of the Adminidtration of Criminal Justice Law 2018, Child Protection Law 2022, Penal Code Law 2018, Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law 2020 etc.
Likewise in area of mediation and reconciliation, the "Wakiliya Doka ( Ambassador of Law) has mediated between families, in communities and promoting alternative dispute resolution among litigants.
Currently, as the Coordinator for RoLAC is working tirelessly to see to the full implementation of the ACJLaw, Child Protection Law, VAPP Law etc ensuring access to quality service delivery , survivor centered approaches and child-sensitive adjudication.
Through legal aid she has assisted survivors of gender-based violence, human rights abuse including IDPs in Malkohi and Damare camps.
UN-POLAC, an international autonomous institution affiliated with the United Nations annually presents to women who demonstrate commitment to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and the promotion of human rights through multilateral cooperation.
According to the organisers, the honour recognises leaders who embody the founding principles of multilateralism: dialogue, inclusion, and sustainable peace.
In congratulating Hapsatu, the Wife of the Governor of Adamawa state, Haj Lami Fintiri stated that the award “brings honour to Adamawa and strengthens our resolve in operationalizing laws and polices to Maximize our support to women, children, PWD, survivors of Gender Based Violence etc.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, Barr. Hapsatu dedicated it to EU and I-IDEA for their support in strengthening the Justice system in Adamawa, improving coordination among Justice actors, transparency and Accountability in governance and to resilient women and children of Adamawa who choose peace daily.
According to Hapsatu the International Day of Multilateralism reminds them that no state, no community, can build peace alone.
She added as we push for full implementation of our laws in Adamawa, we are saying that justice for women and children requires all stakeholder's working together and that is multilateralism in action.”
