ADAMAWA GOVT, SPEAKER COMMITTED TO FIGHTING GBV- ADHA LAWMAKER

As the world marks 16-Days Activism against Gender Based Violence(GBV), the Member representing Fufore/Gurin constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Umar Ismaila Bobbo, has assured that the government and the assembly are committed to fighting such violence against humanity.

Hon. Barr. Ismaila gave the assurance while leading his voice on the ongoing campaign against GBV during Assembly's plenary presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, during the week.

The lawmaker pointed out that the effort of the Wife of the Governor, Lami Ahmadu Umaru and the Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley led assembly is a clear demostration that the legislature and executive arms are committed to curtailing GBV.

"The participation of the Speaker and the Majority Leader in the campaign indicated that the hallowed chamber is in support of the campaign against the molestation of children and women in the society" said Hon. Ismaila.

According to him, with the campaign carried out by the 1st lady, along side the Speaker and other critical stakeholders as well as her words demonstrated that Adamawa State government and the assembly are ready to fight violence against children and women.

He said that they are all aware of advocacies going on about gender equality as well as issues on gender based violence, explaining that GBV cut across both genders (male and female) in the society.

According to him, in recent time, there are cases of GBV that are even on trial, saying that GBV is being discouraged by the British Council to the extend of financially supporting the prosecution of cases in court.

He noted that there are still cases of GBV in respect of child molestation that are being reported at the police stations almost on daily basis, saying that he had witnessed such cases.

He said that he is aware that the past assembly had enacted Child Protection Law and Domesticated Child Right Act into law, stating that such laws were enacted to discourage such cases in the society.
