As part of effort towards fulfilling his electioneering campaign promises, the Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, Aminu Iya Abbas, has doled out the whopping sum of N90million for the empowerment of constituents.
Out of the money, the distinguished Senator presented N50,000, cash to over 600 constituents each as well as donated POS machines with a take-off grant as part of his Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) empowerment programme.
Aside the empowerment, the Senator is planning to award scholarship to over 2,000 students of tertiary institutions from his senatorial district to financially support them in their academic pursuit.
Equally, Senator Iya Abbas, has promised to build two solar mini-grids worth 500Million each in Jimeta Ultra Modern market in 2024 and Yola main market if its construction is completed.
During the event, the Senator used the opportunity and inaugurated his liason office structures across the 76 political wards which comprise Adamawa Central Senatorial District.
Speaking while disbursing the money and other empowerment items to the beneficiaries in Yola on Saturday, Senator Iya Abbas, said that the programme was organised purposely to empower his electorate to become the self reliant.
According to him, the empowerment programme which cut across women, youth and less privileged in the 7 LGAs, was aimed at giving back to those who voted for him to represent them.
The senator also revealed that apart from taken care of the needs of the electorate, his legislative performance had yielded positive result among his people.
He appreciated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and other stakeholders in the state for their concern, and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him by the people of Adamawa central.
In her remarks, the Wife of the Governor, Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by Hajiya Asabe Shaibu, advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the resources for the overall development of Adamawa state.
In his remarks, the Director General, Aminu Iya Abbas Campaign Council in the 2023 election, Alh. Usman Muhammad Kaura, described the senator as a leader who puts the interest of his people above his personal interest and urged his electorate in general to support him for more democracy dividends.
Speaking separately, the Secretary of the PDP and one of the stakeholders of party, Alh. Ahmed Lawan, lauded the quality representation of senator Iya Abbas, saying that the people of the district are lucky to have him as their representative at the national assembly.
Some of the beneficiaries who responsed on behalf of others appreciated the Senator for the support and promised to utilize the gesture judiciously.
Also during the event, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students alogside other members from the Modibbo Adama University MAU, Yola, have presented an award of excellence to Senator Aminu Iya Abbas for his outstanding contribution towards educational development in the state.
The students Union while presenting the award during an event at Fatfatis Hall in Yola, lauded the Senator for priotizing education in Adamawa State.
The NANS leadership also thanked the Senator for being a major stakeholder of the Association, acknowledging that finding some students worthy of such scholarship is the best encouragement from a leader of his repute.
