FAWE MARKS DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD, TASKS STUDENTS ON DEDICATION TO STUDIES

In commemorating the Day of the African Child 2024, the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Nigeria has organised a special event for students in Adamawa State, and tasked them to dedicate themselves to studies.

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Nigeria with a support from PLAN International EU-INTPA Project on "Strengthening Civil Society to Enhance Education for all in Northern Nigeria" organised the event while commemorating the day.

The 16th June, every year is set aside by the United Nations to commemorate the anniversary of the day of the African Child but because of public holiday, the organisation in Adamawa state decided to celebrate the day with the secondary school girls on Monday.

FAWE organised the event in commemorating the Day of the African Child 2024 with the theme, "Education for all" and "Time is now" and held at the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Yola in Adamawa state.

The participants were girls selected from public schools including  Luggere Government Day Secondary, Ladi Atiku Government Day Secondary School, Bekaji Government Day Secondary School and Government Girls Secondary School all in Yola in Adamawa state.

Addressing the students, Master Trainer of FAWE, Dr. Helen Mathias, urged the students to be committed in their studies if actually they are planning for a better future and cautioned them against laziness and truancy.

Dr. Helen Mathias, told them that what they will do today will determine who they will become in the future, saying they should not dream of a better future if they are not committed to their studies.

She encouraged them to be dedicated wherever they found themselves and always have confidence in themselves that nothing is too big for them to achieve, and challenged them to always seek support in order to excell in their academic pursuit.

Earlier, briefing the students on the objectives of the FAWE, the Education Officer FAWE Nigeria, Ibrahim Bello, said that FAWE is striving assiduously to ensure better education for girls, and advised them to remain committed in pursuit of academic excellence.

Ibrahim, said that the event provided opportunity for master trainers to deliver talks so as to inspire the girls to pursue academic excellence and show a movie of pan African women who were girls like  them but defied all odds and became champions.

According to him, the opportunity they have is something that many girls are looking for it and could not get it due to challenges, and called on the government and other stakeholders to continue to invest more in education sector.

In her welcome address, the Chairman FAWE Adamawa State, Hadiza Ibrahim, appreciated the students, teachers and the master trainers for their time to grace the event.

She urged the participants more especially the students to make effective use of the knowledge bequeathed to them at the event so as to brighter their future.

In his goodwill message on behalf of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Markus Mathias, commended FAWE for organising the event, and tasked the students to avail themselves with the opportunity provided.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, SS 2 Student GGSS Yola,  Maryam Usaku Paul, commended FAWE for impacting life long messages in them and promised to share the knowledge acquired with other girls outside.
