FOOD SECURITY: VERRE LEGISLATOR DISTRIBUTES INPUTS TO FARMERS



The member representing Verre constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Japhet Hammanjabu, on Tuesday, distributed agricultural inputs to 933 farmers in his constituency.


Some of the items distributed include mini tractors (Power Tiller), knapsack sprayers and herbicides to his electorates across 4 political wards including Yadim, Mayoine, Karlahi and Uki Tuki.




Speaking while distributing the items at Jili in Yadim ward, Fufore LGA, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, commended the member for distributing the items to his electorate.


Rt. Hon. Bathiya, told them that it is as a result of poverty and hunger in the society that some members decided to distribute food items while others donated farm input to boost food production.


He explained that the function of a legislator is to enact laws and resolutions for good governance, saying it is not within the purview of a legislator to embark on the execution of capital project.


According to him, the lawmakers can complement the effort of the executive arm in the execution of the constituency projects, saying that their concern at the moment as lawmakers is to ensure the welfare of the common man.


He used the opportunity and applauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his support to the members which enables them to embark on the empowerment programmes so as to improve the living standard of their electorate.


In his remark, the member representing Verre constituency, Hon. Japhet Hammanjabu, thanked his electorate for electing him to represent them at the assembly and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.


Hon. Japhet, said that the items were distributed to beneficiaries in his constituency considering the fact that the items are the things that people needed most to fight hunger at this critical time.


He expressed optimism that if the beneficiaries will make use of the items properly, they will certainly harvest more than 50 trucks of farm produce, saying that he is expecting bumper harvest at the end of rainy season.


He appealed to the beneficiaries of the items not to sell it but use it for their own benefit, assuring that he will continue to empower them from time to time whenever resources are available.


Also speaking, the Chairmanship Aspirant for Fufore LGC under the platform of the PDP, Hon. Shuaibu Babas, applauded the choice of the lawmaker to distribute agricultural inputs.


Hon. Shuaibu Babas and former member who represented Fufore/Gurin constituency, informed them that empowerment is not giving cash to electorate but items which will make them become self reliant.


Baring his mind, a stakeholder in the LGA, Alh. Hammanadama Ahijo, said no empowerment that is very important to people than agricultural inputs, and called on the electorate to rally round the lawmaker to enable him continue in providing dividends of democracy.


Also speaking, the President Verre Development Association (VEDA), Rt. Rev. Amos Yakubu(rtd), described Hon. Japhet as a silent achiever and a leader who does not talk too much, and appealed for patience and understanding.


The former Bishop LCCN Yola Diocese, said that no leader will be able to distribute empowerment items to all the people in the society at once and appealed to those who could not get to exercise patience.


In his welcome address, the Chairman PDP Fufore LGA, Hon. Cletus Buba Baraje, appreciated the dignataries as well as the beneficiaries for their time to grace the event.


Hon. Cletus, assured the gathering that the member has a lot to offer to his teeming electorate and urged them to support the him as well as other leaders and desist from insulting them.
