STRIKE: ADAMAWA NUJ BEGS IPMAN, CUSTOMS TO BE CONSIDERATE

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Adamawa State Council has made a passionate appeal to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Adamawa State Chapter and the Nigeria Customs Service to come to terms with a view to ending industrial action embarked upon by the former.

The IPMAN down tools on the 24th June 2024, over alleged illegal and unlawful arrest, impounding of tanker trucks, sealing of Petrol stations unlawfully by men of the Nigerian Customs Service Special Operations Whirlwind in the state.

In enforcing the industrial action, the IPMAN went round and shut down all filling stations across Adamawa state thereby causing total scarcity of the product amid economic hardship prevailing in the country.

The leadership of union in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Ishaka Donald Dedan and Secretary, Fidelis Jockthan, called on both organisations to be considerate in their actions.

According to them, as watch dogs of the society, they considered the action of IPMAN as legal, but untimely and counter productive as the situation is biting harder on people of the state.

It advised both IPMAN and Customs authorities to come to the negotiating table with a view to resolving the crisis within 24hrs.

The union pleaded with Adamawa State Government to interven by bringing the two parties on dialogue table.

While sympathizing with the citizens over the temporary situation,NUJ called for peace and understanding among the citizenry and alerted security agencies on their responsibilities for any eventuallity.
