WE WILL OVERSIGHT TO ENSURE LGCS' ELECTION IS FREE, FAIR, SAYS HON. DONGLOCK
Newly inaugurated House Standing Committee on Public Service and Electoral Matters of the Adamawa state House of Assembly says it will intensity oversight functions towards ensuring that the forthcoming Local Government Councils election is credible, free and fair.
The committee headed by the member representing Guyuk constituency and the Deputy Chief Whip of the Assembly, Hon. Adwawa Donglock, was inaugurated yesterday by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas.
Earlier, the Speaker had while inaugurating the committee, said that the membership of the committee was carefully selected considering the enormous task that is ahead of it ranging from the entitlements of workers, discrepancies in salaries, allowances and even retirement from service and several other problems in the civil service.
Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, who is also the member of the committee, told the Chairman and other members of the committee to carry out their activities diligently so as tackle issues that affect the civil service in the state, explaining that the citizens have high expectations on the committee to see to the improvement of their living standard.
The Speaker said that he is confident that the committee will deliver on its assignment, urging them to without delay swing in to action in order address issues pertaining the entitlements of civil servants and those that retired from service as well as electoral matters.
But speaking shortly after the formal inauguration, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Adwawa Donglock (Guyuk Constituency), declared that his committee will intensity oversight functions to make sure that the executive arm fulfills it promises to the civil servants, those that retired and the general public.
Hon. Donglock, assured that his committee will be committed to see that the State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) performs it statutory responsibilities without any hindrance, saying he will ensure close supervision of the activities of the commission for the progress of the state.
He reiterated that his area of jurisdiction covers state public service matters' generally including parastatals, condition of service, pension and gratuities, electoral matters generally and annual budget estimates, and promised to do everything possible to live up to the expectations of the House of Assembly and the general public.
Baring his mind, the Head of Service in the state, Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday, stated that he considered it a privilege to be part of what he described as important ceremony, saying that the legislature in any democracy is arguably the most strategic arm of government in so many respect.
The Head of Service said that it is a legislature that is truely the representative of the people and that he is delighted to be associated with what the house is doing.
Dr, Edgar said he likes the composition of the committee because the Speaker himself is the member of the committee, assuring them of their support at all times.
