The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), Nigeria on Tuesday, engaged stakeholders in Adamawa State on the National Policy on Inclusive Education in Nigeria.
The event was orgainsed by FAWE with Support from Plan International EU-INTPA Project:"Strengthening Civil Society to Enhance Education for all in Northern Nigeria" and held in Yola, Adamawa State Capital.
It was aimed at introducing the national policy on inclusive education to the relevant stakeholders who are at the forefront of promoting education in Adamawa state.
The event with the theme,"Socialization of National Policy on Inclusive Education" was a fallout of the conference on inclusive education organised by British Council which was held in Abuja recently.
Some stakeholders who participated in the event include Parents Teacher Association (PTAs), School Based Management Committee (SBMC), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development among others.
In her remarks, the Director Admin Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Hajarat Kachalla, commended FAWE for organising the event and tasked participants to step down knowledge acquired at the event.
"As a state, we recognize the importance of inclusive education in breaking down barriers and ensuring that every child, regardless of his or her background, disability, or socio-economic status, has access to quality education.
"The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board is committed to supporting initiatives that promote inclusive education and address the unique needs of marginalized groups.
"I look forward to engaging with fellow stakeholders, leaming from their experiences, and sharing our own successes and challenges in implementing inclusive education programs in Adamawa State
"I commend FAWE for its tireless efforts in championing the course of inclusive education and promoting the empowerment of girls and women through education". She stated.
In his presentation, the Education Officer FAWE, Ibrahim Bello, said that the effort of FAWE is to ensure every child has access to quality education irrespective of gender and status in the society.
Ibrahim who spoke on the topic," National Policy on Inclusive Education in Nigeria", urged stakeholders to strive towards creating a more inclusive and equitable education system that will benefit all Nigerian children.
He charged them to support the implementation of social development plans and ensure that all vulnerable groups are catered for, as well as monitor and evaluate the implementation of the policies and laws on education sector.
Also speaking, the Admin/Logistics Officer-FAWE Nigeria, Yinasim Dagal, said that the event was organised to bring government stakeholders who had attended Abuja Conference to come and explain the policy to the participants.
Yinasim explained that the effort is to improve access to quality education for boys and girls in the state, saying that every student deserves better education as well as have his or her basic needs met.
She pointed out that they want the stakeholders to know the essence of the policy and where they supposed to come in and lean their voices towards the implementation of policies.
Several stakeholders who spoke at the event commended FAWE for organising the event and promised to make use of knowledge acquired to promote education in the state.
