UNREST: 15 NABBED FOR VANDALISATION, LOOTING AT COE AS ADHA UNDERTAKES ASSESSMENT



Management of the Adamawa State College of Education (COE) Hong, says the security operatives have arrested some students suspected to be among the rioters who vandalised and looted some properties recently.


This is coming as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, along side several other Honourable Members on Wednesday, visited the college for an on the spot assessment of the damages incurred as rest of the unrest.


The Speaker and other Members had during the assessment tour, condenmed the unrest and the destruction of properties, and vowed to ensure that the perpetrators are punished to serve as deterrent to others.


The speaker assured that the assembly will support any action taken by the government as well as ensure the implemerntation of the of the reports of the committees constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the riot.


According to him, the assembly during Wednesday session adopted resolutions part of which was the formation of a committee headed by the Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Bathiya Wesley(Hong) to carry out investigation and report to the assembly.


Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, further noted that it will take a long time to bring the Department of Management of Information System to live or where it used to be due to high level of destruction, and sympathised with the college and the state government.


Earlier, speaking while taking the delegation round the damaged areas, the Provost of the college, Dr. Yusuf Benson Baha, told the delegation that the management of the tertiary institution has since constituted 2 different committees to investigate the unrest.


Dr. Baha, said that a lot of computers, sever room and library were damaged with many computers being stolen by the perpetrators, saying the the police were able to recover some of them from the rioters.


He told the Members that they have so far arrested 10 to 15 suspects,  and that they have urged the police to ensure thorough investigation, saying that if the police in Hong cannot be able to investigate them, they should be transfered to Yola.


He explained that the institution can not be able to quantify the amount of the property lost at the moment until after assessment, and thanked the members for the visit.
