FAKE BUSINESS: ADAMAWA STUDENT DUPES MAN OF N27.862MILLION

An undergraduate of Cavendish University Uganda, Mubarak Mohammed Musa, has duped a Yola based business man of N27.862million on fake business.

Mubarak who hails from Mubi in Adamawa state was said to have used part of the money and secured an admission for his bride whom he married on Friday, 12th August, 2022.

The 300 level student and the latest groom in town has since been remanded in prison custody by the Upper Area Court 4 sitting in Yola, Adamawa state.

The presiding judge, Hon.Ibrahim Musa Ulenda, ordered the remand of the defendant after he had admitted committing the alleged offences.

Mubarak, was dragged before the court by the business man, Muhammed Aminu Yusuf, alleging cheating and criminal breach of trust contrary to sections 312 and 303 of the penal code law.

Mubarak, was said to have requested Aminu to send him some money to enable him help introduce him in a sort of bureau de change business transaction in Uganda.

The complainant transfered a total sum of N39.742 million on the 21st April, 2021, to the defendant after he had promised to refund it after 1 week.

After one week as agreed, the defendant sent bank draft to the business man where he informed him that he had already refunded the total sum sent to him in dollars.

But to his utter surprise and dismay, the business man got an alert of the sum of N11.880million only, remaining the balance of N27.862 million.

When the complainant drew his attention on the money he had received, the defendant told him that it was a mistake and promised to send the remaining balance in due course.

Thereafter, the defendant stopped picking the complainant's phone calls and all effort made to see that he pays the balance proved abortive until when the matter was reported to Interpol.

NEWS PLATFORM was informed that the defendant secretly flew into the state and got married on the 12th August, 2022, and proceded to Mubi with his bride on that fateful day.

But as luck would have it, the business man saw on his Facebook and WhatsApp status that Mubarak was in Yola, and that he married and left for Mubi to bid farewell to his parents.

The complainant was said to have immediately mobilised police who stormed the family compound of the defendant in Mubi as early as possible on the 13th August, 2022 and arrested the defendant.

When docked before Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ulenda's Upper Area Court 4, the defendant pleaded guilty to offences and also admitted liabilty in the civil suit.

Judgement was entered on the amount involved in the civil suit and was ordered by the court to pay with the sum of 1million general damage.

Likewise, the judge granted prayers of the counsel to the complainant, R. M. Agav, and adjourned the criminal matter to the 5th September, 2022 for corroboration and remanded him in prison.
