ADAMAWA MAN DUPES YOBE ACCOUNTANT 277, 000 AFTER PROMISING HIM PRAYERS TO GET RICH




A middle age man identified as Kefas Brandford, was on Wednesday, docked for duping an Accountant Yobe State Ministry of Finance the sum of N277, 000.


Kefas Brandford of Ganye Local Government Adamawa State duped Suleiman Ibrahim, of the said amount of money after he had promised him prayers to get rich as well as promotion in civil service.


The defendant had promised to link his victim up with a native doctor in Ganye who will pray to gods to turn his fortunes around within short period of time.


The Accountant who was introduced to the man via telephone by one Mustapha, kept paying money into the defendant's account to buy chikens and rams for sacrifice.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the government official had never met eyeball to eyeball with Kefas, untill 2 days ago when he was arrested.


Suleiman, who currently resides in Kaduna State, had his house, vehicles and all his belonging burnt down by Boko Haram insurgents who invaded his community in Yobe few years ago.


It was learnt that in the wake of the attack, Suleiman, and family members fled to Kaduna, for safety and decided to seek for prayers so as to change his living condition.


But when the complainant was introduced to the defendant on phone, he was asked to pay N50, 000 which he did so as to buy ram for sacrifice even without seeing the defendant.


Suleiman was said to have kept paying money in installments to the defendant for the service since 2020.


It was in August this year that he asked Kefas, on phone to take him to the native doctor because he could not see any positive change in his life.


The defendant was said to have replied to him that the native doctor was sent on errand by the Gangwari Ganye, and that even if he comes to Adamawa he will not see him.


The Accountant began to notice foul play after the defendant informed him that the native doctor was in need of human being for sacrifice.


It was on this note that Suleiman decided to come to Adamawa where he lodged in a hotel for almost a month trying to locate the whereabout of Kefas.


He mobilised police in Ganye who succeded in apprehending him; hence, his arraignment before Jimeta Area Court I in Yola, for cheating and criminal breach of trust.


It was after he pleaded guilty to the offences that the court presided by Mathias Nuhu, ordered his remand, saying that the court will consider admitting him to bail if he has realible surety.


Hon. Mathias, however adjourned the matter to the 10th October,  2022 for corroborative evidence and summary trial.
