Two men identified as Dunubuga Grema and Bifam Samaila, have spent 28 days each in prison custody in Adamawa state for the offence of theft.
Dunubuga and Bifam, who hail from Dumna Zarbu in Guyuk LGA, were sent to prison on the 1st September, 2023 for stealing carcass of a goat.
The duo were convicted and sentenced to 2 years behind bars each for the offence of theft which they had earlier confessed to it.
While serving their jail terms at Numan Correctional Centre, the convicts however regained their freedom when the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee visited the center.
The committee headed by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, visited the Correctional center and discharged them and 65 other convicts and non convicted inmates.
Dunubuga, narrated that Bifam, who happens to be his younger brother, met him while working in the farm and told him that he had sighted the dead goat belonging to a Fulani man and that they should go and carry it.
He said that Bifam had informed him that the owner of the goat threw it away, and that they should go and carry it and share the meat as he alone and his family cannot by able to eat it.
He said that while carrying the carcass, they were sighted by its owner who accused them of killing the goat, saying that all explanation to convince him woefully failed.
According to him, the owner of the goat refused to forgive them despite their pleadings and reported them, hence their arrest, conviction and sentence.
