Financial Autonomy: Northeast PASAN Lauds Adamawa, Seeks Implementation in 5 other States
The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) Northeast Zone has applauded Adamawa State for the implementation of financial autonomy for the state legislature.
The association has urged other states in the Northeast including Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe, Borno, Taraba to commence the implementation of the autonomy for their state assemblies.
The parliamentary staff made the call during its meeting in Yola, the Adamawa state capital on Thursday.
The event drew the leadership of the associations cut across the Northeast states.
During the meeting, the leardership of the association in the zone used the opportunity and presented award of excellence to the Speaker of the Adamawa state, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley and Clerk, Umar Hamid Laleh.
Speaking while declaring the event open, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, congratulated Adamawa state PASAN for hosting the event.
The Speaker appreciated the leadership of the association Northeast zone for selecting Adamawa State to be the venue of its meeting and wished them fruitful deliberations.
Rt. Hon. Bathiya whi was represented by the Majority Leader and Member representing Demsa Constituency, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, said that no meaningful achievement will be recorded in any state without the support of the assembly.
According to him, the assembly has been enjoying financial autonomy long before now and attributed it to the quality of leadership the assembly has been producing.
He used the opportunity and commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for transforming the state and called for more support to enable him continue to provide dividends of democracy in the state.
In his goodwill message, the Clerk to the assembly, Umar Hamid Laleh, said that he was honoured by the prestigious award presented to him and his principal, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley.
He attributed the successes recorded by the assembly to the credible leadership of the Speaker, and thanked the body for recognising both the leadership of the assembly and management.
He said that the assembly is currently enjoying both financial and administration autonomy, and urged other legislatures to follow suit.
He commended the staff of assembly for their support towards ensuring smooth running of the assembly and described the meeting as timely.
In his address, the National Vice President (Northeast Zone) Comrade Isiyaka Jibrin Gital, said that the reason behind the meeting was to enable them review certain issues affecting their associations as well as the assemblies in the zone.
He said that the meeting will deliberate on the financial independence of the legislature, current situation of the chapters based on the consolidated salary structure of assembly staff and their welfare.
He said that it is only Adamawa state that is implementing the full financial autonomy of the legislature in the entire Northeast, saying that other states are making efforts to start implementation.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Chairperson PASAN Adamawa state chapter, Bwalami Abraham, appreciated the leadership of the associations in the zone and thanked them for their time to attend the meeting.
Comr. Bwalami, appreciated the Speaker of the assembly and the management for their support towards the success of the meeting and enumerated the achievements of the association in the state.
