Speaker Bathiya Assesses Performance at Constituency
The Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, has embarked on a community engagement tour across communities in his constituency.
The decision, according to the Speaker, is aimed at sharing ideas, understanding community needs, and taking prompt action where necessary.
During the tour, Rt. Hon. Bathiya used the opportunity and assessed his achievements, interventions, and ongoing projects as well as discussed emerging community challenges for possible solutions.
Since his election in 2019, the Speaker has been visiting his constituency from time to time which is one of his top priorities.
Apart from official functions, the Speaker also identifies with his constituents in moments of joy and sorrow, making his presence felt at both community celebrations and times of grief.
Rt. Hon. Bathiya was accompanied during the visits by key stakeholders including the Special Adviser to Governor Fintiri on Project Monitoring, Hon. Augustine James; Hon. Karimun Dan Kassa; Hon. Freeman Johnson; Hon. ThankGod; Hon. Clement Dagza; and several councillors the Speaker visited Garari, Lugga (Mombol 2), Mombol, Dagza, Dzhedinyi, and Tasha Tidin communities.
Addressing his constituents, the Speaker explained that while he often embarks on personal visits, the tour was an official working engagement to assess and evaluate his achievements, interventions, and ongoing projects, as well as to discuss emerging community challenges.
He reiterated his commitment to consolidating the development strides of the PDP-led government in Hong Local Government.
He disclosed that his tertiary institution scholarship scheme has been expanded, and the budget for his free health intervention programme doubled, with beneficiaries across all communities in the constituency.
He also highlighted his effort in infrastructural development including the construction of bridges in Dagza, Pella, Dzumah, Holma, Fachi, Garari, and Bangshika to enhance transportation and farming activities.
On water supply, Rt. Hon. Wesley disclosed that over 35 hand-pump boreholes and 10 overhead tanks have been drilled, while almost all non-functional hand-pump and solar-powered boreholes reported in the constituency have been repaired.
Other interventions include efforts to connect some communities to the national grid, township road rehabilitation, classroom renovations, and improvements in primary healthcare facilities.
The Speaker further promised to strengthen empowerment and social support programmes, pledging to work with government agencies and the private sector to create employment opportunities for the youth.
He welcomed submissions and requests from the six communities, assuring of prompt action.
In their remarks, the community leaders and residents commended the Speaker’s all-inclusive leadership style and urged him to sustain the tempo for the overall progress and development of Hong Constituency.
