Legislators at the Adamawa state House of Assembly have enacted a bill to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence against persons in the state.
NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the law does not only prohibit all forms of violence against persons but also provide maximum protection and effective remedies for the victims and punishment of the offenders.
The passage of the legislation followed a motion to that effect by the Majority Leader of the House and Member representing Numan constituency, Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri at a resumed plenary.
The bill tagged," a law to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence against persons and to provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders"
Some of the offences that the law has been enacted to address or eliminate include; physical violence, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices, discrimination against persons and several other forms of violence.
It equally provides stiff punishment for the offenders and expected to start operating whenever Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintri, assented on it.
After the third reading of the bill, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, directed the clerk of the house to prepare a clean copy for Governor's assent.
