One suspected cyber crime fraudster is currently cooling off in one of the cells of the Adamawa State Police Command after he was nabbed for allegedly defrauding the general public.
The suspect identified as Kelvin Madu, 32, was apprehended by the operatives of the command attached to Girei Division for allegedly extorting people through fake and untraceable website thus: *www.highbet.com.ng*.
Madu, a resident of Ika Local Government Area, Delta state, was said to have been defrauding innocent people via E- Business transaction such as cash deposit to generate higher interest.
The operatives of the command were said to have recovered the sum of #2.4million from the suspect who is currently being interrogated in connection to the alleged crime.
A statement by the spokesman of the command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Wednesday, said investigation so far revealed that the suspect had been committing the crime since early February, 2021, and was using unregistered GSM number 09137885655.
DSP Nguroje, added that it was after the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Adamu Alhaji, received the report from the victims of the crime that ordered for the deployment of the operatives who nabbed the accused person.
The suspect, according to the statement, will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation, and advised the general public to be cautious of such fraudsters and urged them to report any suspicious movement around them.
Meanwhile, the CP has applauded the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Girei in Girei LGA for striving hard towards curtailing crime as well as making it difficult for such criminals to go scot free.
CP Aliyu further ordered all DPOs to go after such fraudsters with a view to preventing them from perptrating crimes in order to make the society a better place for all.
