DAN MAJE's SUPPORTER SPENDS 3 DAYS IN PRISON FOR DESTROYING RIBADU's BILLBOARD




Muhammed Umar Fawas, a Supporter of Ahmadu Hamman Dan Maje Adamawa, APC Gubernatorial Aspirant has spent 3 days in prison custody for allegedly destroying the billboard of Mall. Nuhu Ribadu.


Fawas who is also the Director Media and Publicity to Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda, APC Presidential Aspirant,  allegedly damaged N1.180million billboard of Mall. Nuhu Ribadu, APC Governorship Aspirant in Yola, Adamawa State capital recently.


He was arrested and remanded in Yola prison custody since Friday last week and admitted to bail by Chief Magistrate Court I on Monday when he was arraigned before the Court.


Fawas who was arraigned before the Court by the Prosecutor, Inspector Iliya Akawu, pleaded not guilty to alleged offences of "mischief and causing disturbance" contrary to sections 318 and 80 penal code law. 


He was arrested and remanded in prison following a complaint by the Publicity Secretary of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nasir Lawan, to the police on the 5th May, 2022.


Inspector Iliya, alleged that the Defendant actively connived with some yet to be identified political thugs went and damaged the billboard which was strategically erected near San-Hussein shopping mall along Mohammed Mustapha way.


The Prosecutor informed the Court that Fawas perpetrated the act with an intent to provoke and cause polical upheaval within the State.


After the Defendant's plea, his Counsel, Husseini G. Maidawa, who appeared along side M. S. Ibrahim, applied for the bail of the Defendant pursuant to section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution and section 159 of ACJA.


Maidawa, assured the Court that the Defendant will not jump bail, temper with the administration of justice, and that he will produce reasonable surety.


He urged the Court to use its discretion and admit the Defendant to bail since the offences are bailable in nature and considering the fact that he is presumed to be innocent at the moment.


Ruling, Magistrate Mohammed Abdullahi Digil, granted bail to the defendant on the condition he must produce a reasonable surety, and the surety must undertake to produce the Defendant at any adjourned date.


While the surety must undertake to forfeit the sum of N100, 000, to Adamawa State Government failure to bring him to court, the Defendant on the other hand must undertake to live in peace pending the determination of the matter.


The case was adjourned to the 9th June, 2022 for hearing with the prosecution witness.
