COURT REMANDS 2 FOR THEFT OF WAEC, NECO LAB FACILITIES




The fate of the SS 3 Students of the Government Secondary School  Mubi in Adamawa State is hanging in the balance following the theft of laboratory facilities few days to the commencement of WAEC and NECO.


It is not yet known whether the final year students of the school can sit for practical physics and chemistry among others due to the criminal act of the perpetrators.


Already, 2 young men arrested in connection to the crime have been remanded in the prison custody after they had admitted breaking into the school's laboratory and carting away the facilities as well as receiving the items.


The Court presided by Chief Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, ordered the remand of the defendants after they were arraigned before him on Monday, by the Prosecutor, Inspector Theman John.


Earlier, Inspector Theman, informed the Court in the First Information Report(FIR) he had tendered before it that the Defendants, Umar Mohammed Inuwa, 18, and Samaila Ibrahim, 21 committed the offences on the 13th May, 2022.


While Umar of Madanya road in Mubi North LGA was remanded for the offence of theft, Samaila of Kolere in Mubi North LGA was remanded for receiving stolen property.


He alleged that Umar conspired with Abubakar Mohammed, Mohammed Isa, Abubakar Jibrilla and Adamu Abubakar(now at large) and broke into the lab and carted away several items.


He added that the Defendants invaded the office and made away with 12 ceiling fans, conical flask, pipettes, measuring cylinder(200, 500, 1000 MLS), tripod stands 20, retort quisher, clas burners, barium chloride, silver chloride, ammonia bottle and distilled water galoons among others.


When the FIR was read to Defendants, they pleaded guilty as result of which the Prosecutor applied for the adjournment of the matter to call a witness in order to corroborate their plea and for summary trial.


Ruling on the application, Chief Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani, ordered that the Defendants be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter the 2nd June, 2022.
