DRAMA IN MUBI COURT AS MAN JAILED FOR 7 YRS ATTEMPTS ESCAPE




A mild drama ensued in Mubi Magistrate Court when a 24 year old man, who was convicted and sentenced to 7 years in prison tried to make daring escape.


The convict, Uzairu Ibrahim of Yelwa in Mubi North Local Governmernt Area, Adamawa state was sentenced by the presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani.


Basani, sentenced the convict without option of fine and also ordered him to pay the sum of N185, 000, compensation.


Uzairu was convicted after he had pleaded guilty when he was charged before the court.


He was charged before the court for criminal conspiracy, causing hurt and extortion which contravened the provisions of sections 61, 230 and 283 of the penal code law, 2018.


The convict and 2 others (now at large) attacked one Abdullahi Yahaya, of Nassarawo ward Gombe LGA, Gombe state with matchete on his tigh on the 27th February, 2022, in Mubi, Adamawa state.


NEWS PLATFORM understands that after the convict and 2 others assaulted their victim with the matchete, they extorted him of 2 mobile phones, 2 car batteries and other valuable items worth N302, 500. 


While charging the convict before the court earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Theman John, informed the court that the items were recovered from the convict.


Immediately after the pronouncement of the sentence, the 24 year old convict ran out of the court hall, jumped through the fence and headed towards Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi.


It took the combined effort of the staff of Upper Area Court I Mubi, some policemen and armed squad of the Nigeria correctional centre Mubi who gave a hot chase before re-arresting the convict.


He was beaten to stupor by those who re-arrested him and bundled him into a black maria of the correctional centre Mubi.
