FUEL PRICE HIKE: ADHA LAWMAKER DUMPS PERSONAL CAR FOR BICYCLE

The Chief Whip of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Haruna jilantikiri, has dumped his personal car for bicycle in protest to the recent hike in fuel price.

Hon. Jilantikiri, who represents Madagali Constituency at the Assembly, opted for his bicycle instead of his personal car to run his daily activities due to hike in the price of fuel.

The price of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) per litre was hiked to N550 by oil marketers shortly after President Bola Tinubu declared in his inaugural address on Monday that the subsidy regime had ended.

The legislator who spoke to newsmen while riding on his bicycle in the early hours of Thursday, said that he decided to start using his bicycle due to the hike in the prices of petrol.

He lamented that the product is currently being sold at the sum of N550 to N700 per litre at filling stations including that of government, saying that he does not think that Nigerians can afford it.

He said that he does not think that citizens can afford to drive cars or ride on their motorcycles considering the current situation, saying that the whole thing is having a devastating impact on the masses.

"We suppose to pack our cars and use bicycles to identify with our electorate because I don't think they can afford to drive or ride on their motorcycles any longer". Hon. Jilantikiri, lamented.

The legislator appealed to the Federal Government to urgently address it to ameliorate the hardship being faced by the people at the moment.

He noted that he does not think their electorate can afford to transport themselves, pay school fees and buy food for the family, saying that something needed to be done to address the situation.

When asked whether he is not afraid of insecurity while riding on his bicycle to the Assembly, Hon. Jilantikiri, said that he has no option than to use it regardless of insecurity.
