MUBI LAWMAKER SPONSORS MOTION ON DESTRUCTION OF HOUSES BY MINERS



Member representing Mubi South constituency at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Yohanna Sahabo Jauro, has raised matter of public concern on the activities of miners in his constituency.


Already, the House of Assembly presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, has constituted 5-man an adhoc committee to investigate alleged illegal mining in Mubi South LGA.  


The investigative committee has Rt. Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo (Numan constituency ) as its Chairman.


The members of the committee include; Hon. Ismaila Umar Daware (Furin/Gurin), Hon. Yohanna Sahabo Jauro (Mubi South), Hon. Kefas Calvin (Toungo) and Hon. Yerima Moses Zah (Michika).


Rt. Hon. Bathiya mandated the committee as well as the Ministry of Environment to carry out investigation and gave 1 week to the committee within which to submit its findings.


Earlier, Hon. Yohanna, briefed his colleagues about the activities of a construction company in a community known as Unguwan Kara in Lamorde ward, Mubi South LGA.


Hon. Yohanna lamented that the company has been carrying out mining in residential areas which is causing pollution and destroying houses.


He said that the company promised to render community service but failed to do so, and prayed the Assembly to constitue a committee to investigate it as well as stop the activities.


Speaking on the motion, Hon. Sunday Peter, said that mining in residential areas is dangerous as it causes erosion as well as affecting the lives of the inhabitants.


He asked the Assembly to address in order to protect lives and property of the citizens, saying that mining in residential areas is against the law.


On his part, Hon. Ismail Umar Daware, stressed the need for the Assembly to direct the ministry to go carry out assessment and submit comprehensive report to the committee.
