A Staff of Adamawa state Ministry of Health and Human Development attached to Health Service Management Board Mubi, Festus Stephen, has stabbed a 300 level student of the State University (ADSU), Mubi, Abbas Mohammed Gudus with a knife to death.
Festus who is currently standing trial at a High Court presided over by Justice Helen N. Hammajoda, over the alleged offence, was said to have stabbed his friend, Gudus with a knife on his neck to death over the phone he bought from the victim.
The accused was charged to court on 2 counts charges boredrering robbery while armed with offensive weapons contrary and punishable under section 1(2) (b) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provision) act cap R11 laws of the Federation, 2004.
According to the accused person, he first met with Gudus in 2011, and became friends since then, and that sometimes he used to eat and sleep in his Gudu's house in Mubi.
He said that on the 27th October, 2018, at about 7:30pm at Wuro Gude, himself and the deceased decided that he (the victim) should go and buy a fried yam and bean cake, while himself should go and buy codeine syrup for consumption.
On his part, he said he went and bought 2 bottles of codeine syrup for their consumption, while late Gudus bought the fried yam and bean cake, narrating that they ate the yam and subsequently consumed the syrup.
The 27 year old man further explained in his confessional statement that before the incident, he bought the victim's IPhone at the sum of #40,000, and paid the money, but the deceased could not give him the IPhone.
He stated that he did whatever he could so that he will give him the phone since he had paid for it, but to no avail and decided to use the opportunity in order to collect the phone either by force.
According to him, some minutes after taking their codeine syrup, his friend removed the phone from his pocket and told him that he wanted to call his father, and that immediately, he removed a knife he armed himself with and stabbed him on his neck as a result of which fell down lifeless.
Festus narrated further that he picked the phone and dipped his hands in the pocket of the deceased and took a packet of cigarette and boarded a tricycle and fled from the scene of the incident.
According to him, he switched off the phone until the following day where he on it and called the father of the deceased, but he could not utter a word, and that he was later traced and arrested by the police.
The case which came up on Thursday for hearing was further adjourned to the 24th February, 2021 for continuation of hearing.
