Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested 15 suspected cult members during cult initiation at the State University Mubi.

According to the command, the operatives recovered axe, charms among other items from the suspects.

This is coming as the university on Thursday, announced the suspension of academic activities for 2 weeks as a result of hostel allocation racketeering on the institution's portal.

The spokesman of the police command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje who confirmed the arrest to NEWS PLATFORM on Sunday, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during cult initiation on Sunday.

He stated that the suspects belong to the most notorious cult group, Neo Black Movement who allegedly initiate other students as well as wreck havoc in the institution.

DSP Nguroje told NEWS PLATFORM that the suspects would be paraded by the command during the week.

Meanwhile, the university in a circular released by the School Academic Secretary, Mrs A.J. Tafida, and made available to NEWS PLATFORM by the Information Officer, Belmond Benson, on Sunday,  said that the decision to suspend activities became necessary following 8th extra ordinary meeting by senate of the institution where it directed for the suspension of the activities.

The senate during meeting held on the 18th November, 2021, considered a report on hostel allocation racketeering on the portal and resolved that registration for the 2021/ 2022 Academic Session and other activities be suspended and advised all students to vacate the university premises.

NEWS PLATFORM was informed on Sunday that the management of the university had last week constituted a committee with a mandate to investigate hostel racketeering on the portal and given 2 weeks within which to submit its findings.
