YOLA SECURITY GUARD, 1 OTHER REMANDED FOR STEALING IN CHURCH



A 20 year old security guard, Keneth Baba and and his 18 year old friend, Muktar Abubakar, have been remanded in prison custody for allegedly stealing property belonging to a church in Yola, Adamawa state.


The accused persons allegedly carted away property belonging to Living Faith Church Nyibango, Yola North Local Government Area on the 2rd November, 2021.


Keneth who was the security guard of the church, admitted stealing its property, while his friend, Muktar pleaded not guilty.


Chief Magistrate Court I Admin ordered the remand of the defendants after their arraignment before it for alleged theft and receiving of stolen property.


Their offences, according to the prosecution, contravened sections 276, 277 and 308 of the state penal code law, 2018.


Keneth, confessed to the theft of speaker, standing fan and gas cooker valued N130, 000 and allegedly gave it to Muktar.


Seargent Galeon Nimrod, told the court that the arrest of the duo followed a complaint lodged by the pastor of the church, Ejeh Enejo, on the 3rd November, 2021.


Galeon said pastor Enejo, had reported to the police that they left their security guard in the church to protect the property, but when they came to the church the following day, they found out that the said property were stolen by the security guard.


While ruling on the application for adjournment filed by Galeon, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, granted the application as prayed.


He adjourned the matter to 23rd November, 2021 for corroboration and summary trial of the 1st defendant, and ordered the prosecution to call witnesses for commencement of hearing in respect of 2nd defendant.


However, he ordered the remand of the defendants in prison custody until then.
