YOLA COURT REMANDS 2 IN POSSESSION OF N2.3MILLION FAKE NAIRA NOTES



Yola Chief Magistrate Court I Admin has remanded in prison custody 2 men for having in their possession the sum of N2.3million counterfeit naira notes.


The accused persons, Lawan Ibrahim, resident of Dadin Kowa District, Gombe State and Hamisu Ibrahim, resident of Wukari Street Ganye Local Government Area, Adamawa State were apprehended on the 14th October, 2021.


Lawan(40) and Hamisu(50) who were arrested by the Team of Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Department in Mayo Belwa LGA, were arraigned in court over alleged criminal conspiracy and possession of forged record or counterfeit currency.


NEWS PLATFORM gathered that the suspects were in possession of N1000 and N500 notes of Nigerian currency amounting to N2.3 with intention of using same as a means of legal tender knowing fully well that it was not genuine currency.


The prosecutor, Inspector Iliya Akawu, informed the court in First Information Report that the duo were arrested by the operatives following a credible information from a reliabe source.


The defendants pleaded guilty when the content was read and explained to them.


In view of their plea, Inspector Iliya, asked the court to fix a date for corroboration and summary trial of the defendants and for their remand in prison custody pending trial.


Ruling, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, said that the court has accepted the case for prosecution, and that the police are to call witnesses for corroboration and summary trial and adjourned the matter to 10th November, 2021.
