Adamawa State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, is not leaving things to chance in order to put in place a vibrant and robust assembly expected to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate around the 25 constituencies which comprise the assembly.
Since his emergence as the speaker of the 8th assembly over 2 months ago, the number one lawmaker, who represents Hong constituency, has been striving assiduously to prepare his colleagues for competency, people oriented legislature as well as good governance in Adamawa state.
Undoubtedly, his sheer commitment and zeal to equipping the Honourable Members with the requisite legislative knowledge for optimum performance will go along way in enabling the legislators to provide effective and efficient representation to their teeming constituents.
To this end, the Speaker through the assembly House Standing Committee on Legislative Compliance and Special Duties has organised a 5-Day Retreat for the Legislators which is currently taking place at Valada Hotels and Resorts in Jos, Plateau State.
The retreat is part of the deliberate effort of Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, to exposing the 24 assembly members on how to easily float legislation (bills), sponsor motions on matters of public importance, constituency responsibilty of a legislator, fundamental of effective oversight and an overview of the committee system among others.
The Honourable Members were warmly welcomed by the Speaker of the Plateau Assembly who was represented by his Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. D. Gwahson, who applauded the event and wished the members fruitful retreat and happy stay in Jos.
Interestingly, the historic event which drew cream of resource persons from the assembly, equally provided ample opportunity for the members who cross fertilised ideas as well as contributed on papers being presented by the distinguished resource persons.
Meanwhile, cross section of Adamawa State citizens who bared their minds to NEWS PLATFORM, commended the assembly led by Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley for organising the event, saying that the event will go along way in bringing about effective service delivery in the state.
Declaring the event open, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya, disclosed that the retreat was organised primarily to educate, enlighten and equip the returning and newly elected members on the legislative practice and procedures.
He appreciated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for sponsoring the retreat for the members, insisting that the retreat will go a long way in boosting their legislative practice and procedures.
Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, further applauded Governor Fintiri led administration for effective partnership and support to the 8th assembly, and expressed optimism that the partnership will continue to exist throughout their tenure for the benefit of their people and for the overall development of Adamawa State.
