A Youth Organisation known Pitapwa in Adamawa State has called on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to fulfill his campaign promises by appointing youth in political offices.
Addressing newsmen in Yola, on Friday, the Leader of the Youth Group, Pitapwa Vokito, advised Fintiri to tap from the strength of the youth in building a healthy and prosperous state.
He appealed to the Governor to honour his electioneering campaign promises to youth by apponting some of them to form members of his cabinet or other political offices.
Vikito explained that their gathering is not on the basis of political party, but the gathering of youth with a deliberate drive to hold their leaders more especially the Governor accountable on their political decisions.
He disclosed that the yearning of every well meaning youth is the progress and prosperity of the state and the country at large, saying that that cannot happen without the involvement of the youth in policy formulation and execution.
According to him, over 60 percent of Adamawa population are youth who also needed to be engaged politically and called on the government to appoint them into various political offices.
"Your Excellency when young people are disengaged from political processes, a significant portion of the population has little or no voice to influence decisions that affect their bracket and the larger society.
"This explains why it is essential that young people are engaged in formal political processes and to also have a say in formulating policies that are beneficial to all strata of the society.
"We hereby suggest that it is not too late to withdraw some of the Commissioner-nominated, screened and confirmed by the House of Assemnly and replace them with some youth who were on the verge of being marginalized.
"We hope that the government sees reasons in this submission; we also implore it to ensure that rooms are not given to errors in the subsequent moves for political appointments by ensuring that a significant percentage of youths occupy such offices", stated Vikito.
He pointed out that Adamawa has a productive and constructive youth too numerous to mention who can serve as commissioners, stressing that their intellectual and vigour can drive the economy of the state.
Pitapwa Vikito, commended the Governor for starting his second term on a good note most especially his constant show of interest to further develop the state and to make life better for the citizens.
