FEMALE SOLDIER SHOOTS CAPTAIN DEAD IN ADAMAWA

A female soldier enforcing the government-imposed curfew met a tragic altercation with civilians, leading to the accidental killing of a senior colleague at a checkpoint in Yola, the state capital, Daily Trust report.

The incident occurred amidst rising tension following the looting of government warehouses, including palliatives intended to ease the impact of fuel subsidy cuts.

Fintiri imposed 24 hour curfew as hoodlums broke into warehouses in Yola

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had implemented the curfew in response to the recent vandalism of warehouses by hoodlums.

Among the security personnel tasked with enforcing the curfew was Lance Corporal Nkiru, who reportedly had a reputation for being harsh towards civilians, even brandishing her rifle at the slightest provocation.

The unfortunate event unfolded at the Fire Service Roundabout in Yola when motorists, who identified themselves as essential workers, attempted to pass through the checkpoint during curfew hours.

Lance Corporal Nkiru, unyielding in her duty, insisted that they turn back, leading to a confrontation.

Witnesses claim that a captain intervened in an attempt to mediate the situation. However, Lance Corporal Nkiru had already cocked her rifle and, in the heat of the moment, accidentally fired, hitting the captain.

The injured officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, but tragically, he succumbed to his wounds.

Immediate action was taken by fellow soldiers who promptly arrested Lance Corporal Nkiru and removed her from the scene.

In response to inquiries regarding the incident, Brigadier General Muhammad Gambo, the Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade Yola, requested that journalists seek written appointments to discuss the matter further.

“As the authorities conduct a thorough investigation into this tragic event, it serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining law and order during periods of unrest,” a security analyst, Mr. Sani Shuaibu said.
