Alimat Care Foundation, AGILE-AF Train 43 Learning Facilitators on 2nd Chance Education in Adamawa
Alimat Care Foundation in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE-AF) during the week, trained no fewer than 43 learning facilitators on 2nd chance education in Adamawa state.
The 5-days event was organised by the organisations primarily to equip leaning facilitators with methodologies/techniques on second chance education opportunities for adolescent girls and young women in Adamawa State.
The training which was held at the Nurses House in Yola, Adamawa State Capital, drew 43 learning facilitators from 20 centres across 9 pilot LGAs where 2nd chance education is taught.
In his welcome address, the Project Coordinator AGILE AF Adamawa State, Eng. Liman Sidiki, described the event as an important activity aimed at equipping them.
The Project Coordinator who was represented Mohammed Hassan Bede, urged them to pay attention and ask questions for more understanding and clarification in order to het what is needed to step down to their learners.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary Adamawa State Mass Education Board, Mariam Ahmed Dadi, who was represented by Emmanuel Adiel, appreciated the participants for their time to attend the event.
The ES commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for creating an enabling environment for the implementation of the project as well as for paying counterpart fund for the project.
Mariam Dadi, thanked the learning facilitators for coming from different parts of the state to be taught on how to handle adolescent girls and young women, saying handling such people is delicate and fragile and needed special skills to succeed.
According to her, they were in Yola to acquire knowledge and skills on how to go about carrying out their activities for the project to be successful in Adamawa State.
In overview of the 2nd chance education component 2.2c and objectives of the training, Usman Ahmed Dadah, ED DAFEE said that 2nd chance education is to ensure that some vulnerable groups to be educated.
Dadah said that the sociihas so many forms of education including adult, traditional and 2nd chance education, explaining that 2nd chance education is entirely different especially the one being ubdertaking by AGalILE-AF.
He added that 2nd chance education is aimed at providing opportunity to adolescent girls (15-19)years, and young women between of age 20-25, and that they pay attention to age bracket during enrollment.
He stated that the event is for out school adolescent girls and young women, saying that out of school are those that started school but at whatever level dropped it for whatever reason.
He lamented many dropped out of school because of finances, insecurity, marriage, lost of parents among others, insisting that many dropped out because of those reasons.
According to him, under the 2nd chance of project of AGILE-AF, they are going to enroll those that dropped out of school at primary school or secondary levels and some that have not been to school at all.
He told the participants that they were carefully selected from their centres so as to equip with a view to use their experience as teachers in order to inculcate needed knowledge in their students.
He tasked them to employ the use of methodology and pedagogy of teaching that will take into cognisance the differences of status, assuring that they were there to support them to ensure they stay comfortably in Yola and well equipped before going back to the society.
