Rainy Season: ADHA Takes Steps to End Farmer-Herder Clashes

 




Adamawa State House of Assembly has taken steps towards curbing farmer-herder clashes which results in the loss of lives and destruction of public property. News Platform 


Farmer-herder clashes usually occur during rainy season as well as period of havest in some parts of Adamawa State despite effort by the state government and security agencies towards curtailing it.


To this end, the assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, passed resolutions aimed at curbing the clashes and promoting peace and stability in the state.


As part of effort towards addressing it, the assembly directed all the Hon. Members to visit their various constituencies and educate their electorate more especially farmers and herders on the need to live peacefully.


The resolution followed the matter of urgent public importance sponsored by the Member representing Song constituency and the Chairman House Committee on Security, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas.


Earlier, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas had while sponsoring the motion, urged the assembly to mandate all the members to visit their constituencies and educate their electorate on the importance of peaceful coexistence.


Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, stressed the need for the members to take proactive measures now that the rainy season is fast approaching to avoid loss of lives and property.


According to him, educating their constituents more especially farmers and herders to respect each others' business, embrace peace, tolerance and patience will prevent the occurrence of the conflicts.


Some of the lawmakers who contributed on the motion, commended Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, for sponsoring the motion, and backed his prayers to mandate them to meet with their electorate on the issue.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the plenary, Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, said that he has been doing his best to ensure that farmers and herders respect boundaries in their business.


He said that he had created security depots in some parts of his constituency with a view to complementing the effort of security agencies in curtailing security treats in his constituency more especially during season.


Hon. Emmanuel Kefas assured of his commitment as lawmaker towards ensuring peace in and around his constituency and promised to continue to provide good representation.
