5 Remanded for Beating Man to Death at a Party in Adamawa
The Chief Magistrate Court II sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Friday, remanded 5 persons in prison custody for allegedly beating a man with sticks to death during a party in Mubi South LGA.
The court presided by Magistrate M. A. Adamu, remanded the defendants including Timothy Hassan ,25, Iliya Kwada, 28, Markus Ezra, 38, Joel Micheal, 32 and Lukman Shuaibu, 27 and adjourned the case to 3rd June, 2025 for further mention.
Hassan and 4 others were arraigned before the court for alleged "criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, being in possession of weapons, mischief and culpable homicide".
The offences, according to the First Information Report, contravened sections 60, 218, 69, 318 and 191 of penal code law Adamawa state 2018 as amended.
Arraigning the defendants, the Prosecutor, Inspector Hamza Abdullahi informed the court that the defendants armed themselves with dangerous weapons and stormed the venue of a party and Wuro Barka in Mubi South LGA on the 4th May, 2025.
He alleged that the defendants beat up and matcheted their victims, Bamanga Yakubu and Okacha Adamu and destroyed their motorcycle.
According to him, it was as a result of the beating that Okacha Adamu and Bamanga Yakubu sustained injuries and were rushed to General Hospital Mubi for treatment where Bamanga Yakubu was confirmed dead by the medical doctor.
He stated that the weapons including locally made single barrel gun, matchet, sticks and iron rot were allegedly recovered from the defendants.
While the 1st, 3rd and 5th defendants pleaded not guilty, the 2nd and 4th defendants pleaded guilty to the offences.
