Speaker Bathiya Bags Ndi Igbo Chieftaincy Title
The Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, was on Sunday, conferred with Ndi Igbo chieftaincy title by the Igbo Cultural Association Adamawa state (ICA) and the Council of Elders.
The Igbo community in Adamawa State honoured the Speaker with " Okwuruoro Ndi Igbo" meaning Peoples' Advocate in recognition of his achievements.
Likewise, the Igbo community bestowed traditional title on Chief Maurice Vunobolki.
Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley and Chief Vunobolki were honoured during the 2025 Igbo day celebration held at the Mamudu Ribadu Square in Yola, Adamawa State.
The event gathered sons and daughters of Igbo from across Adamawa who appreciated God for making it possible to witness another day.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, congratulated the celebrants for the honour done to them as well as the Igbo Community for successful celebration of 2025 Igbo day.
Governor Fintiri who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, commended Igbo community for their support to the present administration since its inception.
Fintiri informed the mammoth crowd that they have become part and percel of Adamawa State and urged them to continue to engage in activities that will bring more econimic development and peaceful coexistence.
In his speech, the Speaker ADHA, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, expressed appreciation to the leadership of Igbo Cultural Association (ICA) for finding him worthy of the title, and assured that the honor will spur him to do more for the humanity in various capacities.
Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, dedicated the title to his electorate and the state at large and assured the ICA President and his council that he will uphold the guiding principles of Igbo in promoting peace and unity among Adamawa and Nigerian citizens.
According to him, Igbos are people that can live everywhere due to their peaceful nature and their contributions in the growth of every society and commended them for embracing peace and unity.
He used the opportunity and applauded Governor Fintiri for providing conducive atmosphere for businesses to thrive and for the investors, saying that Governor's effort has made Adamawa one of the peaceful states in the entire North East.
While assuring them of their safety and that of their investments, the Speaker appealed to them and the entire citizens to continue to support Governor Fintiri as he pilots the affairs of the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Fedelis Amanze represented by Chief Aloysious said that they happy to celebrate yet another Igbo day in Adamawa state and described the event as the celebration of reunion.
He said that Igbos in Adamawa State have contributed enormously to economic development and education sector among others, and pledged to support the development of Adamawa State.
According to him, the event has provided opportunity for them to celebrate identity, saying that the Igbos have sustained their culture which is the mark of value, honour and respect.
