Support our Mandate for Peace in Adamawa, Commission Urges Citizens

The Adamawa State Peace Commission has urged citizens to support its mandate by contributing meaningfully towards peacebuilding.

The Vice Chairperson of the commission, Jamila Suleiman, stated this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the commission's maiden meeting presided by its Chairman, the Hama Bata HRM, Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke.

She said that the meeting was convened to articulate their position which include building legal, administrative and community frameworks that will help in the effective discharging of their mandate for the period of 5 years.

She said that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, is passionate about peace building in the state

"We're also planning on positioning ourselves to work for five years, and that include the formulation of strategic plan with which to work.

"So, all the members of the commission have brought in inputs about conflict fault lines in communities which we are going to use to build to ensure peace in the state.

She maintained that the commission is fully advocating for a peaceful Adamawa by stimulating the minds of communities through the community leadership to have nonviolent engagement and embrace dialogue rather than conflict. 

She pointed out that while it is important to have peace, it is equally important to have social structures that are equitable and inclusive of everybody.

She added that where social justice is present, the challenges to peace are minimal. "We want to see societies where there is no violence and where there is presence of justice, equity towards all the various groups that form communities".

She said that everybody has a role to play by contributing towards peacebuilding.
