Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to increase the retirement years of the judiciary staff in the state.

The passage of the bill followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Judiciary and Entrepreneurship Development presented by its Chairman,  Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo(Numan).

The bill seeks to provide for a law to increase the retirement years of the staff with a view to securing the professional position of magistrates, judges, law officers and other legal officers employed in the state.

The committee told the assembly that the bill will guarantee the impartial exercise of judicial function and consequently allow every person to have confidence in more particularly the judiciary and the justice system in general.

According to the committee, increasing the years of service of the magistrates, judges, law officers or legal officers can ensure job security.

It added that it therefore serves as a consequence of judicial independence, more especially to the role of judges and their subordinates in the judicial process and implies that the judges must be above any interest and free from pressure of work.

"The effective and efficient performance of the judicial officers, law officers or legal officers requires expertise with vast knowledge and experience in the administration of justice; hence, the need for more years to prepare and deliver more",  the committee added.

It said that the legislation will lead to professionalism, promote rule of law and the administration of justice and consequently increase the hope of a common man in the judiciary.
