MAN DRINKS PESTICIDE TO KILL SELF OVER N7, 500 IN ADAMAWA

A middle age man identified as Bayo Adelabu, has allegedly drank a liquid substance suspected to be pesticide in an attempt to commit suicide over the sum of N7, 500 in Adamawa State.

Bayo of Bachure in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State drank the chemical even after he was paid the money by a lady identified as Francisca Micheal of the same Bachure community.

The young man who decided to exterminate his own life with the hazardous pesticide, eventually sought for prayers for quick recovery while on his sick bed at the Federal Medical Centre(FMC) Yola.

NEWS PLATFORM learnt that Bayo who owns a provision shop, was patronised by Francisca Micheal, who supplied some items and paid the money with the remaning balance of N7, 500.

The lady was said to have tried to transfer the remaining balance to him on her cell phone but the network was bad and decided to go back home and do the transaction whenever the network stabilses.

The following morning, Francisca who was introduced to Bayo by her boyfriend, called him and pleaded with him to exercise patience because the network could not allow her to send the money, and re-assured him that she was going to give him the money in the evening.

On that fateful evening, the lady left for church for mid week prayers, but while in church, Bayo kept on calling her and later became disappointed because nobody could pick his calls.

Irked by her action, he posted the portrait of the lady on social media (facebook) with an inscription describing her as "a thief and scammer" and advised the general public not to engage in any transaction with her.

After all the insults, he went and reported her at the Jimeta divisional police headquaters where he accused her of cheating. But when arrested, she narrated what transpired between her and the man, and paid his balance right at the police station.

The police who were not happy with the Bayo's action, ordered him to retract the content of his post and publicly apologise to her, and that he should leave the post on his timeline for 24 hours.

NEWS PLATFORM gathered that he apologised to her as ordered, but deleted the post after few hours unknown to him that the lady had been following and reading peoples' comments.

Francisca who became more angry with him for deleting the post, dragged him to Criminal Area Court I in Yola, presided by Hon. Nuhu Mathias, on the 25th March, 2022, alleging defamation of character.

When the statement of the complaint was read to him upon his arraignment in court, Bayo pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence of defamation of character contrary to section 60 of the state penal code law.

After the plea of the defendant, Hon. Mathias who earlier ordered for the remand of the defandant in prison custody, however, admitted him to bail and adjourned the matter to the 28th March, 2022  for hearing.

NEWS PLATFORM gathered that shortly after Bayo returned back home, he went and drank pesticide in an attempt kill himself due to what he described as frustration.

It was further learnt that Bayo who was immediately rushed to Peace Hospital for medical attention, was referred to FMC, Yola due to his condition where he was treated and discharged.

While on sick bed, he posted on facebook where he informed the public that he was in critical condition at the hospital and needed prayers so as to recover.

After he was discharged from the hospital and appeared in court, Bayo changed his plea from not guilty to guilty after the testimony of Mrs Poulina Justine, mother to the complainant.

It was at this juncture that the court revoked the bail of the defendant and ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody for the sake of his life.
